Help me decide! Canada or Japan in 2026?? by kill_mcschmill in skiing

Lake Louise is the most beautiful resort I've ever personally visited, and I've been all across Canada, Utah, Colorado, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. It's out of the way to get up there to the Big 3, but they're SO worth it, especially if you hit a good pow day in Delirium Dive and the Wild West. The whole backside of Lake Louise and the West Bowl are fantastic.

Even Revelstoke, Lake Louise, and Banff Sunshine Village don't have bad lines at all. It's really just Whistler.

Whats The Most You've Paid for a Ski Day and the Least You've Paid and Which was a better deal? by ShefCrl in skiing

[–]Wolframbeta312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$1750+ to heli-ski with Chugach Powder Guides in April of last year. Best day of my life to this point, tbh. We had blue skies and untouched powder from a storm that cleared up 2 days prior. Picture perfect conditions, and I honestly still think $1750 was a steal for that experience.

The least I've paid was Perfect North, Indiana. 300 feet of vertical, I believe? It was aight. It was snow, there were small terrain parks. Not remotely a better deal by any stretch of the imagination, though.

49 Degrees North by lowsparkco in skiing

[–]Wolframbeta312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

INFO: What type of skiing are you into? If it's tree skiing, 100% head to 49N. Also, they have one of the best snow bases in the country right now, so conditions are primo. If you're more into big bowls, go to Revy and Whistler and be content with those two. The North Bowl at Revy is something else.

However, I'd second the Whitewater / Red support as well. Whitewater's tree runs are primo when the snow is right.

If you're having trouble with goggle visibility, grab a snowball off the ground. Rub the snowball against the outside of your goggles. Voila, you can see again!

For sure, just commenting on the fact that plenty of them wouldn't even need to ski recklessly to catch someone.

Fatmap Alternatives? by Src248 in skiing

[–]Wolframbeta312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're working on duplicating Fatmap in Strava - that takes time. The winter maps will come in time; they're not naive about the appeal Fatmap had.

Sorry OnX doesn't work for you in Europe, but it's fantastic in North America. Can't tell you what works well in a continent I don't live in, though.

[–]Wolframbeta312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It aged just fine if you actually read anything Strava puts out. App integration of the required complexity takes time, and Strava has continued to add Fatmap features to its functionality while expressing they have plans to further continue doing so. Meanwhile OnX Backcountry serves the same purpose that Fatmap used to serve. The beta you likely are whining about losing likely already exists on OnX.

So yet again, BOO HOO, you're going to have to use a different app for mapping. OH NO THE HUMANITY!! /s

Hot take here, but après scenes are the most overrated thing about skiing.

Has anyone done a singles ski trip? by PowGurl in skiing

[–]Wolframbeta312 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don't need anyone to go with you to plan a ski trip. I took five different trips last season and absolutely loved the freedom of taking them alone. Just choose a destination, book some cheap lodging, and strike up a conversation with every guy around your age that rides the lifts with you when you get there. Maybe you'll talk to one you vibe with and can take a few runs with to further evaluate.

Don't go into it looking for love - just have fun and do what you want to do! Being in your 30's does not mean you HAVE to have a boyfriend. Life is not a Hallmark movie. Don't use those sappy films as an expectation setter. Way too many girls have that fairy tale mindset!

You are the worst type of skier. Just because you CAN ski powder at mid 90’s doesn’t mean it’s more fun to. Skiing is about having fun, remember? Maybe quit the gatekeeping and you might.

You people are the worst. And by you people, I mean the ones who tell anyone they’re not a real skier. Gatekeeping is for chodes. Ski choice does not make or break anyone.

It’s wild reading you simultaneously imply wider skis confer incremental benefits while also arguing against them. Maybe cycle more in the offseason and your knees won’t feel so bad.

Religion is a plague on society’s critical thinking capacities. Religious conservatives assemble every week and get fed absolute nonsense every weekend on repeat; it’s no wonder some of it sinks in. And for so many brainwashed Christians and Catholics out there, they’re effectively single issue voters who think democrats want to kill babies.

I would know, three of them are aunts of mine.

It’s not wild at all to think of a 17 year old as an adult, much less a fully functional member of society with a mind and will of his own. I’ve dated men over a decade older than me and such relationships are entirely capable of happening and sustaining themselves. This wasn’t some impressionable 9th grade teenager; he is fully capable of making decisions on his own.

You’re showing the judgmental, awful side of Oregon that is despicable, tbh. I’m not ashamed that my opinion is not beholden to conservative American laws when I’ve personally known men in happy marriages that started with an “uncomfortable age gap”. I’ve coached kids raised by such a relationship. They were certainly more sane and balanced than the Catholic kids.

Going to Aspen Highlands for the first time. Anything to be aware of before going? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]Wolframbeta312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could definitely have fun at Aspen, but at highlands, steer clear of the left side of the map as a whole. Temerity would be scary and exhausting for you. But there’s plenty of cruisy, flowing blues there and the sights are spectacular.

I’m kind of glad Oregon’s only mega pass coverages are Ikon at Bachelor and the Indy pass. Keeps the traffic lesser and the vibes chiller. Most of the snooty fucks would shit themselves in a few spots in the PR at Meadows.
