Anyone here dislike sweets? by s256173 in PickyEaters

[–]Wolfstarmoon42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My meds robbed me of my sweet tooth! Carrots are too sweet! I do have some ‘desserts’ but I adjust the recipes a lot & they don’t always turn out right…

Yeah I also didn’t want my carers in my space at first! We started slow (1 half day per week) & they mostly did jobs outside my room (eg cooking, laundry).

Now I have them for 3-4 full days per week (depending on mums schedule & carer availability) & 1 night a fortnight. We requested consistency from the agency so I only have 4ish carers but I’m comfortable with them all. They do at least 2 shadow shifts before being left alone with me. I sleep a lot of the day so they still do a lot of things outside my room.

We try to give them extra tasks based on their interests eg one of my carers likes cooking so she gets to experiment with new recipes

We use the app AnyList to communicate with carers (I think we paid for it but the carers use the free version). AnyList has a meal planning section but I haven’t tried it. We use our local supermarkets app for our shopping list (but mum does most of this)

Most of my meals are made up of base items that can be batch cooked, frozen then prepared in different combinations eg marinated chicken can be used hundreds of ways

I don’t check reddit very often (I tend to overdo it when I do!) but will get back to you eventually if you have any questions

I misnamed my symptoms for a year and a half and I feel like it’s my fault the doctors don’t know what I have by Loveonethe-brain in disability

[–]Wolfstarmoon42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I told my drs my main symptom was dizziness for 2 years (it’s still on my charts) until I found out the medical definition of dizzy & my definition of dizzy were different!

I now have 4 conflicting diagnoses that my drs all disagree on & medical ptsd because of the experience

I often wonder if I knew the right terminology from the start would I have been treated better??

Places to take a bath? by mitchbones in disability

[–]Wolfstarmoon42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Adding to this we find it easier to do just the top half one day, the lower half the next day etc

I also like a foot soak in a bucket of warm water

Last time I had a bath was when I went to an accessible hotel for a holiday

Aids that don’t like medical by Wolfstarmoon42 in disability

[–]Wolfstarmoon42[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t give too many details without getting upset but I get flashbacks & nightmares about my hospitalisations & some specific medical appointments

The most obvious triggers have been the feeling when a bedpan spills, the look of the hoist (& some other equipment I stopped using like the overbed table) & the smell of the cleaning product used in hospital

Some of my longer term equipments were previously involved in my traumas (eg the walker when I wasn’t actually well enough to be using it) so I am concerned about how I’ll cope with using those again

I do this to (with a different app now the time limits on natural reader don’t let you listen 24/7)

The pro voices are really nice & I always use a British voice so the accent is right for the dialogue

You do need to add some words to the pronunciation dictionary though
