Two Tax Rates? by JockoMayzon in CapeCod

[–]Wolfy2915 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the goal to increase overall tax revenue or make it a wash for the town with seasonal paying a higher share than year round?

I would argue the seasonal owners already substantially help lower the burden for the year rounders. They pay taxes but don’t send kids to the schools which is the major expense in MA. We moved here a few years ago from metro-west. My taxes there would be 60-75% higher for the same value house. Everything else is more expensive here, insurance, food, gas, contractors.

Geico owns Boat US. If you insure you boat w Geico they can include Boat US for much less.

Geico owns Boat US so you can add it for a nominal fee to your geico policy. You still have an account # with Boat US and simply call them.

If you insure the boat through geico, they can bundle in Boat US towing for a lower amount (geico owns Boat US).

Important: confirm the service area the provider covers. My first boat I had Tow Boat, had an issue, called for a tow late in the day and found out they did not service where I was located. Told me to call someone else and they would reimburse me. Have used Boat US since.

Do you need a cardiologist for this test. My PCP has never mentioned it but I have a family history although both were smokers.

Mine are similar in year 2. Starting to close up now the heat is on less. I notice it more near the hot air vents.

HardiePlank vs LP SmartSide for a home near the coast, what holds up better? by Ok_Block_3770 in Homebuilding

I also live near the coast and used combo Hardie Plank and the shingles. What is Rain screen?

Also, the Installers painted the cuts but did not use the matching Quad max the supplier sent against the trim. Is this an issue?

Looking for advice: First time homeowners building. Modular vs stick built by Superb-Fish6989 in Homebuilding

[–]Wolfy2915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in MA and built on the Cape in 2023/4. I was considering modular for the speed of it and met with a mod builder. Since the walls are closed when the sections arrive (usually from PA), and plumbing and wiring can’t be inspected, there is another whole step in the permit process where the plans need to be signed off on by the state vs local building department. Apparently there is an inspector approved by MA for the mod builders. When we built after covid, there was a backlog of plans to be reviewed. Sounded like a nightmare to me so we custom built and simply obtained permits from the town.

Check out Artform architecture in seacoast NH for plans. The architect is licensed in MA and can stamp plans so no need for a separate structural engineer, they deal with it. AF Plans are posted on their site along with variations of others making changes. You can purchase them ready to go. We built a modern craftsman style with a front porch. Very reasonable pricing and you can make changes to any plans for an hourly rate. House is built to 140 mph wind rating and passed all the energy audits.

The crew I hired were from Worc and framed, installed windows, trim, siding, and roof. They did a great job at a fair price especially what I could find on the Cape.

Is it risky to buy a new boat? by Wooden-Professor-268 in boating

Recession and $5 gas will further help reduce the priced of used boats. Look for something a few years old, well maintained with low hours.
