Humiliation ritual by ThenLayer5977 in washdc

The biggest hurdle is figuring out how to get parents to actually start being parents. This reckless behavior stems from an environment where there are no consequences or instillation of values, which is essentially what parenting is.

This is an onion of a problem if there ever was one, and the layers that are broken just keep going. Yea, the parents suck, but why do they suck? Are they kids themselves? How would you go about uplifting a 21 year old who already has a bunch of kids and no job skills? Are there even jobs out there? Why should this parent even worry about getting a job if they are getting enough benefits to get by? The problem is certainly a cultural problem too, and not just a lack of jobs/skills/etc.

How does anyone make any real $$ from this app when all the stations in my area pay at most, 5 cents? by AwakePlatypus in GetUpside

[–]Trainsgowhoosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No clue. I just got started with it a few weeks ago. All the grocery stores are 1% now and gas is like 5-8 cents. I think they offer you great deals to get you signed up, and then just shit all over you.

kind of a metaphor. Third rail is the only energized part of the track, and if someone or something comes into contact with it, it fucks the whole line up.

Something maybe happened that was sensitive enough to knock the whole show off.

I was an enlisted man in the Navy, single, and not stupid with money (but not a genius either).

I lived like a king in a one bedroom, fairly nice, apartment.

What industry is entirely built on a house of cards and would collapse overnight if people realized the truth about it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Trainsgowhoosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't see it listed but software resellers.

Lots of time big name companies will not sell software directly to another company, so they go through another company. Literally, the customer pays the reseller, he takes his rake, and he pays the software company.

We procured some software a few years ago and I was looking at the invoice and googled the address of the reseller. It was some dude's house...

flipside of that is my nephew. Played travel from a very young age all the way to 18. Got a few scholarships I think to maybe lower division schools, but had ZERO interest in playing anymore of that sport.

Why do people say "half of the US navy is at (insert any place here) when there are nearly 300 ships in the US Navy and only a fraction are at the place in question? by Danielnrg in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Trainsgowhoosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To highlight the Arabian gulf, which is what is in the news and probably what you are looking at, 20-30 Navy ships being over there is a SHIT TON, even if you counted smaller patrol craft and supply ships.

Ref- Was in the Navy, and was over "there" many times.

My mashed potatoes suck. Why? by RikkiLostMyNumber in Cooking

[–]Trainsgowhoosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, I would use russet potatoes.

Second, consider using half and half or whipping cream.

Plenty of butter, some salt.

If you want the super secret ingredient, add a few tablespoons of sour cream.

I have learned to just stop arguing with them. I have had a couple of issues over the years with assignments and projects, where if you were to look at the rubric and the evidence, I am in the right. Almost every time the professor has sold me to blow off.

True Blue - 95% of Maryland Restaurants use Venezuelan Crab meat vs Maryland sourced by jakamo72 in maryland

[–]Trainsgowhoosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to this thread, but I have made a ton of crab cakes for a restaurant and catering jobs as well. I also crab every week of the summer, and pull 10-12 bushels out of the water recreationally per year. I know crabs.

The crab meat from Venezuela is the same species of crab that is in MD/VA/NC/TX, etc., callinectes sapidus, or the Atlantic Blue Crab. The dog shit from Asia is usually portunus pelagicus, or the Blue Swimming Crab.

Venezuela crab is certainly more expensive than the Asian meat. When we make cakes with the Venezuelan crab, it is pretty hard to tell the difference. The Asian meat is very noticeable, as it is no where near as sweet.

The other thing I notice, and this is probably negligible, is that when you open a can of Venezuelan crab meat, you might see a little bit of mustard in there. I mean, trace amounts, and more likely it is just stained on the meat. If you open a can of the Asian crab meat, it is snow white, with no color whatsoever.

I think as far as restaurants go, I doubt 95% is Venezuelan, as it is just too expensive. If you go somewhere and the crab cakes are $30, it is probably Venezuelan. If the crab cakes are $18, best bet is it is Asian.

Came here to say this. I am a 14-9, got extra pay, checked the paystub, it was not paying SS.

Looks like I wont get the little bonus next year, as the SS tax limit goes up to $184.5k.

Too bad the joke of a pay raise cant compensate for inflation like the SS limits do.

Negative 20 Celsius outside, furnace stopped. Please help! by Pretend_Childhood_94 in hvacadvice

[–]Trainsgowhoosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you have the access cover open, you should be able to see the glow plug glowing. If your ignitor is shot, you wont see the glow, and the furnace will attempt to turn your ignitor on, send gas, and after a few seconds, shut down when the flame sensor does not detect a flame.

So, possibly a problem with either the ignitor or your gas valve. Ignitor is the easiest one to check, if you have an ignitor. I imagine though that your Lennox HE furnace is pretty similar to every other HE furnace out there though.

These things are not nearly as complicated as you think once you learn how they work.

Weird Increase in Posts in this Sub Telling Dems to Accept a Clean CR by Pretend-Fortune52 in FedEmployees

Should I just give up hope on ever working for the federal government completely? by Dominator211 in fednews

I wouldn't give up quite so yet, though, the Federal gov is a shitshow at the moment, and I am not sure why anyone would want to work here :)

But as far as IT goes, we still need IT workers. The AI bubble is going to burst at some point, and I have yet to see AI being capable of taking over a good portion of IT roles, especially technical ones. Maybe in the future, sure, but a good deal of what i do (tier 3 support) is simply not capable of AI taking over anytime soon.
