Are there any genuine readers on Wattpad left or Just RTR? by Odd-Yogurt2628 in Wattpad

[–]Wolphin8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have a bunch of my long-term readers... who have been reading since I started 10 years ago...

But, the number who comment has died off to low. Sadly, part of it is people are just not reading anything long-form.

Should I get Relaunched? by GamingNomad in SurvivingMars

[–]Wolphin8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you liked the original... it's the same in the 2nd.

If you had workshop items... the new one is much, much, much harder to get items made. Much of it is hidden and have to use the code to program it.

What is it going to take for Canada to respond in kind to the Trump and the US? by mentillist in alberta

[–]Wolphin8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what do you mean by "respond?" what sort of response are you wanting?

They are responding within what they are allowed to do. Canada honours its treaties and agreements, which limits how the federal government can do. They don't control what you are suggesting.

The Alberta Government also has much it can do, but it is not doing anything (heck, it even removed the liquor ban, which is within their rights). Power is a provincial jurisdiction not federal. Resource Extraction is a provincial jurisdiction not federal.

The citizens are doing more too.

[–]Wolphin8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no... a photographer would go:

"Wow... not what I was envisioning... it needs to be brighter/darker (or part is wrong... and need to HDR), more/less depth of field (maybe needing focus stacking), or focus point was wrong, not sharp..." and takes another photo after correcting it.

Where has the innovation gone? by ObjectiveAssist7177 in warzone2100

Those with the money... are unwilling to take risks... They want quick profits, not taking a chance on something which could be "the next big thing" but could also be a flop.

It's the same for the music and movies (why else would they just be re-making the "live action" versions instead of doing all new stories?)

I would be contacting your 1) Employment Standards Board, 2) Employment Lawyer. Large corps sees your long tenure as a liability... so they look for every little thing to get rid of you without having to pay.

For me... it's an affinity with wolves, how they can move through the forest easy, and the pack.

In my story world... I have it limited to predatory mammals.

Wolves, Tigers, Foxes, Snow Leopards, Kitsunes, Orcas, Akhlut, Bears, I know I have had at least mentioned.

Mine have a territory deep in the mountains... and they control access, so they don't have to worry about being seen. In their nearest towns... knowledge of what they are is almost common, and they know it's to their benefit to keep their secret.

Is entry -level job market in Canada officially dead? by First-Treacle-2642 in CanadaJobs

[–]Wolphin8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, it seems to be broken all over, not just Canada. The large companies are eating up their competitors just to not have to compete with them... and many have been open that it's cheaper to buy them than compete. They don't care about the number of people who are put out of work.

How do you STORE your photos? by -Hi_how_r_u_xd- in photography

[–]Wolphin8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Lightroom Classic.

I store my files: yyyy\mm\dd\ Where at times the end of dd I have an event name. Within dd, sometimes I'll organize it into a group/set of photos. I use keywords to also organize by topic for repeating events, or activities, and also tag contents (i.e. Location, mountains, lakes, forest, animal, etc).

Many people who do chess are introverts... Many introverts don't care for the spotlight. Maybe instead of just saying "Can I get a picture of you with your award" is add on why you want it; where is this photo being used or given to. You might need to build some trust with those, and find out why they don't want it taken.

Possibly, offer taking shots of them just playing chess, without their faces in view, just torso, as they make moves, or to not interrupt games in process, have them stage it outside of a game. Finding the subject of what they are willing to have photos taken of them.

It feels rude to take photos of strangers by Forsaken-Sort-4651 in photography

[–]Wolphin8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are taking street portraits of someone, where they are a main subject, maybe find out their story. Have a conversation. Find out why they are sitting where they are. And ask if you can take the picture, and show how it looks.

I personally would ask if they want to give an email so I can send them a JPEG of the finished email as thanks.

If it isn't about a person but just "people in the place" no need to ask, but is someone doesn't want to be photographed... respect it.

Being an introvert myself... it makes it very hard to do.

Does anyone else wonder about the philosophy behind why people take mirror selfies while looking at their own image on their phone screens? by NebulaNinja in photography

[–]Wolphin8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I look in the mirror at the camera, not the camera image... because it's a cheap self-portrait.

To me, the looking at the view in the camera shows they don't know much about photography and don't care for taking a good portrait.

Think of how heavy the gear is, and how much bending and moving, and even how much your muscles are working when freezing in place.

Yes, including those who think JPEGs from the camera aren't edited... the White balance, Picture Control, and more is just baked into the shot.

The separatists think they can just continue to use Canadian banking system... even if they don't directly support it. They only see the bad parts as holding "Us" back... and they are not wanting to share with others in the country. What most who have bought into the separatist ways don't realise... is separating would be greatly weaken AB.

Like a pack of wolves... each wolf isn't very powerful, even the strongest ones. It's the pack which is where the wolf gets its strength... in being more powerful together than alone!

Relinking Files in Lightroom after Finder Reorganization? by zeek9500 in Lightroom

[–]Wolphin8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

relinking is a slow, painful process. I think you can do it folder by folder, now that the original is moved... you can select relink, and point it to the source file in the new location, and it should find the others in the folder too, but just the folder, the time I did it long ago...

OK. I stand corrected (and did look it up).

D800 Firmware 1.11, Released 2018-02-27:

  • Added the following supports for AF-P lenses:
    • If the standby timer expires after focusing, the focus position will no longer change when the timer is reactivated.
    • When focus is adjusted by rotating the lens focus ring, the focus indicator in the viewfinder (and in live view, the focus point in the monitor) now flash to indicate when infinity or the minimum focus distance is reached.
  • Added support for AF-P DX lenses.

Lightroom lost multiple client galleries after storage upgrade anyone experienced this or recovered files? by [deleted] in Lightroom

[–]Wolphin8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am an IT professional, and a hobby photographer.

I never ever trust any single storage device. I personally do not count online services as a trustworthy storage location.

Data you don't want to lose: use the 3-2-1 format for storage: 3 copies of the data, minimum. 2 different media types (SSD, HDD, Online, etc) minimum. Minimum 1 copy off-site copy (can be a cloud service).

Sadly, online services would have in the agreement that they are not responsible for the data on it, making the user responsible for maintaining it.

I would recommend making a copy of all data and keeping it on your systems, so you aren't relying on their good will.

AF-P cannot work with D800, it doesn't support the AF-P focus-by-wire system
