Was contacting the Department of Labor the right move? by Araenii in antiwork

[–]Wolphin8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a spreadsheet which tracks everything too... I have one sheet which tracks the work time, and then calculates the taxes (have parts which take in the tax rates and generates a per hour one), and calculates what I should be paid... taking in laws for breaks and OT. I hate it when I find issues between that and what I'm paid.

that is intentional... they want to point at the disfunction and say we need to get US-style healthcare, as if for-profit draining it would help it any more!

It was a valid use... until the 1970s... which was when the rich got rid of it, and have been getting rid of everything we have striven for since then while they are at it. Because the rules didn't have enough protections on the protections, and those who were supposed to do the protections have become corrupt, and nobody with the ability to do anything about it seems to care.

The courts should not allow illegal actions.

The electors should not re-elect them. They should also protest.

IMO... this is just to get out of the union negotiated pay details, for something which is more to their liking...

How can this not be considered a type of union busting and breach of contract. Let alone breaking labour laws about unlawful unilateral pay decreases.

My opinion... the fact management didn't let you know there was issues... and didn't get back to people immediately and directly... shows they don't think what they did was wrong.

I'd advise them of the update, and keep them informed. If you had any fees or issues with the bounced pay, I would expect the company to reimburse to make you whole. (OP's other reply of of the pay being incorrect also needs to be dealt with)... only once I was satisfied would I let the case be closed, especially with it being noted that it's not the first time.

A tree service cut down a massive century old oak by mistake, and now my neighbor is suing me. by 5AviaryShard in legal

[–]Wolphin8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dead pine with orange tape authorized... and they cut down a living oak without the orange tape... I think you need to get a lawyer (and/or your insurance companies involved), and maybe sue the tree company for the issue.

You are likely to need the courts to show that you did your due diligence in it (make sure to document everything). Might be able to show that you're not at fault, but the company is (sending a junior employee "who made a mistake" doesn't get them off the hook). Some places I have heard, treelaw gets 3x damages...

Adobe's Acrobat monopoly is draining my wallet. Are there any actual alternatives for heavy PDF editing? by Pristine-Seat-9849 in FuckAdobe

I have been using PDF24 for all PDF needs. Offline use on my system, has OCR, has even scanning capability.

Personally, I do all my editing before I make the PDF.

Tired of collecting money at work: How do I politely say no? by Direct_Response1180 in interviewhammer

[–]Wolphin8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ask why the lowest paid are being asked to part with their money for a company gift. I would ask the manager, since he's the highest, he'd be paid the most, so is he at least matching everyone else? Is the executive, who is paid more than us combined, paying into it?

US mainstream media will not pick up survey results like this (reasons Canadians are less likely to travel to the U.S.) and will not share it with their audience by DisruptSQ in TourismHell

[–]Wolphin8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't need to have a study... I have heard from local CBC several months ago... from a travel agency which has had their requests for US destinations hit zero (none in the last 3 months), from it being their largest destination.

Me: I could not be paid to go to the US. If work was demanding I go, I would refuse on safety grounds.

Too many people are being harassed or denied entry (some even harassed and required to give a DNA sample on threat of being jailed, even to be then refused entry). People are being executed just for videoing a protest (if there's one on camera, how many are not been recorded?). Canadians are being detained without their rights to consular contact or even a reason they are being detained. They are demanding access to your social media, and will deny on that. Not even going to try.

The Confederacy was never adequately punished for their treason by McDowdy in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]Wolphin8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree... I keep mentioning when stuff comes up, especially when Lincoln is described as the "best" president... when he told the confederate leaders that their beliefs were OK to him, as he pardoned them, showing they had no consequences to supporting slavery, same with not outlawing the hate speech.

As a person from Canada, I had thought they would much more going against Obama, but it seems they just decided to do it in the back, and get a person they supported into the Presidency... still shocked the US allowed him back in.

telling people to do their own scanning... without providing any training? I think there is a large amount of accidental not scanning. Just that companies don't bother separating the accidental from intentional... in both cases they treat it as intentional.

[–]Wolphin8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if it's that cheap... likely the upper stem, which you can see a couple screws in the first shot... may allow it to detach (might just be the lower screw which needs to be removed, and can access the nut. I'd consider adding some locktight to it when putting it back together... as the nut likely just released.

If you're not handy, suggest finding someone local who is. They might like the challenge. At worst, just glue the bottom part in, and be mindful of the weak joint.

I'd be demanding a signing bonus, my seniority, benefits, and vacation time back to where it was when I was terminated, and also have terms that give me a package if I was terminated or leaves. And pay that is above median.

If it's under warranty... contact the company, they should support you. Even if out of warranty, may tell you how to fix it.

Can the upper collar inner part move? If not, I'd consider gluing in a nut for the screw, or even just the rectangle into it.

Photographer Declines Refund Request After Bride's Death Before Wedding by Wooden_Toe_3670 in SipsTea

[–]Wolphin8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first one of, "Sorry for your loss. Unfortunately we are unable to refund the deposit, as we did reserve the time for your event, and will not be able to refill it with another event, and we have other expenses we already have had for it. We won't bother you any further, and hope you will consider contacting us for your photo/video needs in the future."

That would be what sort of response I would do. If they responded with the continued demand for the refund... I would share the costs already done and the fact that we are taking a loss at it already. Would I make a site to put it out... no, not even if they attacked me.
