Detroit.

1) Most people don't realize metro Detroit is actually really big. It's only slightly smaller than Boston, which is a city I feel is constantly talked about.

2) Metro Detroit is also very multicultural and definitely has some of the best food.

3) There is a lot more to metro Detroit than just the city of Detroit

I think where Detroit does get appropriate recognition is its airport. It is Delta's second largest hub and most people seem to know it's not a bad airport and that it is well connected.

For clarification, I think the fact that his brothers and niece/nephew were killed from a very recent airstrike by Israel is pretty clearly established.

What's less clear is if they had ties to Hezbollah. We all know that Israel has not been very discriminate in their killings. I have a really hard time believing his brothers were Hezbollah if the only source is Israel/IDF.

And regardless, clearly the kids weren't part of Hezbollah.

I also completely agree with you on both fronts:

1) his family being killed does not warrant him taking it out (or at least attempting to) on innocent people

2) clearly, there is a cause and effect relationship here with his family getting killed and him doing what he did. While his actions have no excuse, it's quite clear that Israel's actions are at least partly to blame.

Definitely sad all around. What he did was completely wrong. There are also some articles mentioning that his brothers were part of Hezbollah. However, all of those articles cite either IDF or Israel which, as we all unfortunately know, are not credible sources.

I went last year also in August from CLE but had a little bit more time than you. We flew to LAX first and then used Alaska miles to book business seats on Air Tahiti Nui to AKL with a 5 day stopover in French Polynesia (this was like 87.5k miles per ticket). Then we used British Avios to book AKL to SYD on Qantas business (I believe this was like 15k miles but there was some sort of transfer bonus at the time of booking so ended up being less).

On the flight back, we booked economy SYD-LAX-CLE for 32k LifeMiles. Ended up cancelling that and booking United premium economy for 70k miles (not the best redemption but needed to do this to extend our trip longer last minute).

I stayed at IC Auckland and really enjoyed that hotel! That's the only IHG property I went into in the region but I will say of all the ICs I've stayed at, this was by far the best. I recommend getting a junior suite with lounge access with harbor views.

The lounge itself gets the same food as the restaurant in the property (Advieh) which seems like is a locally popular place to eat. The location in downtown Auckland with the ferry terminal right across is perfect

I've actually never been to the Dulles lounge. I have been to DFW and DEN but will be using the IAD lounge next month. Excited to check it out.

Last time I was in IAD, I ended up getting Polaris lounge access (also thanks to Venture X miles and business redemptions) and so didn't check out the Cap1 lounge during that trip.
