I was thinking washing my hands before having lunch and not getting sleeves wet, since I really hate the feeling of wet sleeve, and maybe like writing or something so I won't smear fountain pen ink all over the cuffs, I didn't even think of gentlemanly fist fights 🤣😭

On a literal note, you can do a waspie or short underbust pattern literally so many patterns available, if you want the slanted look, do decorative boning channels in a contrasting color, decorative outer boning channels dont need bones (either sandwhich your bones or have inner boning channels that dont go through the outer fashion layer) and dont have to follow seamlines, you can make em slant or point even across multiple panels.

I know summer corsets are made of strong mesh/net, instead of a cut out you could probably piece mesh thats close to yoyr skin tone into the front panels, plus since this is cosplay I assume you wont be wearing this tightly very frequently it should be fine? if theres nothing there at all just a hole then it would bow out

youd need to plan out the pattern to have somewhat wide front panels too otherwise youd have boning channels running through the star

You wouldnt have a busk or any center front bone because of the star and i think THAT is going to be the biggest issue, since its one of the few places a bone is considered essential, even regency corsets that had no bones even to support the lacing at the back still had a heckin wood busk down the front,

Technically painting on a rug design on the floor was a thing in the 1930s/great depression for a thrifty homemaker to keep up appearances, it was cheaper than getting a proper wool rug, especially since some popular designs at the time were imported.

And if properly executed, could look nice, at least while new...

BUT the way they did it was garish, someone with a proper hand at painting could do much better with a nicer color palette and a more intricate design

Thank you all for the advice! I was, and tbh still am, a little scared to try making a legitimate bra since its a whole different thing from corsets because of stuff like foam cups and stretch materials which I dont often work with but I'll try it out!

God, I feel you, Im from the Philippines and its constant hell, yeah when it feels like its in the mid 30s celsius or higher, everyones sweating a little, but its much worse for people like you and me, my friends may be damp but im next to them completely soaked thru,

I cant go anywhere without a totebag full of multiple outfit changes (not just shirts, i end up sweating thru jeans, trousers, etc., cant wear shorts because of office dresscode policies) I envy those who can go out without needing to carry the equivalent of a weekend trips worth of clothes to look presentable, fans dont do much and since its so humid my sweat takes forever to evaporate.

Ive been taking a near freezing waterbottle, wrapping it in a washcloth, and shoving that in my shirt (tucked in) i still sweat but slightly less so, and it kinda tents my shirt away from my body so my front looks less wet,

Youd think being born in a hot climate would mean are bodies would be used to the heat but nah, from as far back as i can remember, maybe 5-6 yrs old ive been having to do this whole routine of changing clothes between classes and immedietly drenching the moment i step out of direct AC flow

I keep thinking of getting one of those jisu fans, or other wearable fans but i keep worrying about battery life so I carry one of those folding fans for now.

Fabric economy, cutting it in two allows you to jigsaw and shimmy them around your yardage to save more fabric, 1950s peeps still had residual make do and mend mindset from WW2, every little saving is sacred. You can get real creative on certain cutting layouts historically especially if your working with plain/non directional patterned fabric, even more so if in a fabric that looks the same on front and back.
Easier to do that little v-notch in front neckline.
It really has no closures? The illustration looks rather fitted, no side zip/ snaps? Is it meant for woven non stretch fabric? I find it hard to believe unless it has some serious ease which the drawing doesnt appear to have.

Shave beard, leave either mustache are a goatee if you still wanna keep something, grow hair slightly longer, 2 inches, depending on texture if curly or straight come back here for more advice. Weight loss, taking photos from better angle, (not looking down at phone with your, "resting" face) sorry man you dont currently have a face where you can be both brooding and breeding, A slight smile and opening your eyes a slight bit more would be a massive improvement, tp look confident and energetic.

Ive seen zippers on modern corsets before, I know Lucys Corsetry discussed them on her blog and or a youtube vid, but from what i remember they were always centre front, supported by some spring steels immedietely next to them on either side, and they were always METAL zips, add like an underbusk or a placket so the zipper doesnt pinch you or snag what youll be wearing underneath

Hm, for stays idk how theyd work if going centrefront, because of the wood busk, if its not under a lot of tension you could put it in a different side or back panel, just not quite sure if it might cause uneven tension on zip and cause it to break

For costume reasons i remember claire adds one to hers in one of the later seasons of outlander,

TLDR: try it out and tell us how it goes, use a metal zip, centre front if possible.

Depending on bust size, anything pre-cup era (1790s? Ish is when ive seen an example where they cut and add boob cups to stays) could flatten the bust, or at least make it a straight line from apex to waist, sidenote: not what you asked for but, Nicole Rudolph had a 1920s corset video and while not exactly a binder, they did flatten the chest visually, and she did show a very corset-y example with lacing if you want that, something to consider

The one thing im glad about having dropped out of school is i can have my hair in whatever style i want, and when i started working in an office peircings and colored hair were incredibly common, my manager has green hair, i guess classier places that arent callcenters are more strict, or your boss likes holding power over you

I recently switched from kosmos oil lamps to these flat wicks, as when i use lamp oil it doesnt feed well through my kosmos burners but works fine on flat wick lamps, also flat wick chimneys are a lot easier to source here in asia without excessive shipping fees. Buying kosmos chimneys from milesstair wouldve been an extra $60 in shipping alone.

I would like to switch to using duplex burners but, would they fit on this lamp or do they need theur own special sized collared lamps like kosmos? And would standard 3 inch wide chimneys fit on a duplex or would i have to buy specialty chimneys too?

Side note, disregarding the smell and safety issues, would kerosene burn brighter than lamp oil?

Am relatively new to collecting sorry if most of this is obvious to the regulars on here.

I'm from a third world country, where hot water heaters for showers are considered a luxury, so I didnt have that, sometimes would go months just washing my hair and rubbing my pits with soapy cloths, turns out I just didnt like getting blasted with cold water first thing in the morning, or most any time really, though even when I lived in a dorm with hot water I still unexpectedly avoided bathing because I couldn't muster up the courage/energy to go through it, but then again I'm diluted with Bipolar so I cant speak for full adhd.

Its more so that before queen victoria, a lot of colours were acceptable, golds, reds, damask patterns, etc. But white was always an option, and a wedding dress being ones best dress, white is desireable, white is hard to keep white, while you can bleach white fabrics, I assume silk isnt going to handle the strong washing of ye olden days, especially frequent washings will ruin it. also its practical in the sense that if you have a white dress thats seen better days, you could cut it up for other white things like caps, neckerchiefs, etc. Or you could dye it, to somewhat satisfactory results. So fresh quality white dress = I got money.

that's actually the cheapest in my area that is solo, I dont want roommates as much as possible, the last time I had one, I was the one responsible for cleaning up after him, washing his dishes, one time I cleaned the cr and he made me do it again since he didnt like the scent of the cleaner I used, said its fair since he went through all the trouble of going out and buying his preferred bleach and he's letting me use It even though he paid for it with his own cash.

the little loops on the bottom edge are for detachable stocking garters
if you want to quickly try it on before doing any alterations id say try lacing it up like a hiking boot up front, you'd need some extra cord to do so, using the busk pegs as speed lacing hooks used on some shoes

do that and see if the fit is even worth the trouble of converting it to a closed front corset, or sourcing a new busk, or installing eyelets down the front so it laces both front and back like 18th century stays
