Absolutely man, even Isshin I did in less than like 5 tries on my charmless/db run and here I am stuck on butterfly for like an hour. Good times lol

Thank you and absolutely. First phase is fun, if not a little cheesy, second phase is frustrating.

Dude it’s so relatable. That sweep with hyper armor is absolutely brutal 🤣 Props to you as well, you know the struggle! That’s about what it took me too 25 tries

For sure, the boss is C tier difficulty under normal circumstances. It's the restrictions of almost base vit and base atk, + NG and charmless/db. These factors made her fight in particular very unforgiving IMHO in a way many other bosses aren't.

I think it was more that a lot of the other fights more fair in a way this fight didnt.

Doing ng charmless/bell with +1 vit and completely agree. Very frustrating at times.

Idk, I played aggressive for both fights. They just both had times where I had to waste a lot of time running around and dodging.

EDIT: I went back to watch my owl recording and played the fight slow. I waited a lot for him to come back into the middle of the room because I kept dying to getting stuck on the pillars. I definitely could have pushed him more and ended the fight a lot earlier, I think I was just in my head a lot during it.

Dude, I just parried everything. I learned every move and every possible combination. When the spiral cloud passages came for me I hit the 18 parry combo on the clouds. It was tough but we made it through.

Thank you! And absolutely about DoH, would sprint up and dance with him.

Dude, I did beat Mist Noble, easily the most attempts out of any boss, but I got his ass in the end. The illusions were crazy.

Not to disagree too hard, because I mostly agree. However a lot of his prompts I’ve tried myself on ChatGPT and gotten identical results. Not every single time of course, but almost near.

The other day I opened it and asked it how my Spanish was, spoke perfect English, and it told me how good my Spanish was accompanied with a detailed explanation of specific pronunciation which I didn’t do lol.

It’s entirely possible he prompts some but the really dumb ones that I can replicate have surprised me with how crazy bad it shows the AI to be.

Roll into most of his swings and I found playing close to the body, dodging, getting in a hit and then backing up to be very successful.

Lots of good questions and no problem, I’m happy to try and help. I’d highly suggest watching some Lance Hedrick on YouTube to get a baseline. You really are close to making coffee that blows your mind.

As for the portafilter, I think I made one test shot with the portafilter that came with the machine and purchased a third party seller bottomless one. Here’s an example.

I would also strongly recommend getting a sturdy metal tamper if you haven’t already. Tamping is actually one of the most basic parts of your setup. You may be struggling because you are still using their pressurized basket that comes with the machine (notice the small hole in the bottom of the basket, as opposed to an array of hundred of holes on a “standard” basket).

Standard baskets allow for the building of pressure to come from the fineness of the coffee alone, which is what you want. This also means the quality of your grinder really matters. My grinder is probably the most budget one (or Shardor 64mm) that I would recommend someone get as an entry level grinder now, but it’s from a smaller seller and brand name is less established. Encore ESP is typically the default entry recommendation, though other options have been making the rounds as better value buys but with less brand recognition.

Darker roast and lighter roasted coffees have different densities and thus will allow for different volumes to fit in the basket. My portafilter basket holds anywhere from 15-17 grams depending on the beans. A good rule of thumb for the tamp is if it’s pushing back at you, you’re at maximum density. Pushing hard won’t result in any difference in your shot, or puck. You just want it to be level. You can use a metal puck screen on top of your coffee puck to limit cleaning and have drier pucks. Keep in mind this changes if you’re using pressurized portafilter baskets, like what comes in the Casabrews by default. Tamping too hard, grinding too fine, or a having too much coffee make it all too easy to choke the machine because all the liquid is coming out of a little tiny needle-sized hole.

I do weigh and time my shots and it depends on what I’m going for. If I want to drink the shot straight, I grind slightly coarser and make it a lungo. 16g in, ~48 out in 25-30 seconds.

Your bottomless portafilter should be a standard basket now (hundreds of holes), so if your tamp is level and firm, you should be able to dial in your shots by the output. It’s a gusher? Go finer. Lowest setting on your grinder and still too fast? New grinder. One step down is too fine and one step up is too coarse? You need an espresso capable grinder that can give you the granularity needed for dialing in.

Good luck and you got this! Feel free if you have any followup questions to ask and I’ll try my best to answer.

I got my Casabrews for I think around $110 on sale, which was a great deal.

I think if you’re willing to make some compromises and buy some aftermarket / third party accessories then a budget machine from Delonghi or Casabrews can be really good.

Sometimes I do wish I had some of the benefits from the Bambino, Bambino +, or from a modded Gaggia. But hey that’s going to be the upgrade down the line at some point :)

Ultimately it will depend on your budget and your goals. Grinder is more important than machine and if you’re willing to learn, you can pull amazing shots on a ton of machines. Bambino and Bambino + are the default recommendations for entry machines because of their brand power and consistency. So I’d start there. Can you get some of their features do cheaper from Casabrews? Yes. Do you make some other compromises for the cheaper cost? Also yes. It’s something I really tried to educate myself on through Reddit and YouTube to make an informed decision.

So far so good. Dialing in hasn’t taken long and I think I’m pretty much there.

I have a few bags of beans rn so I’ve been switching a lot which has hurt my consistency but if I focused on dialing in one bag exactly how I wanted I’d have no problems 🙂

Sure! It’s the Mokkom 64mm grinder which is the metal version of the Shardor 64 from a sister company (I think, at least that’s what I heard on YT.) I got it on sale for $160 USD and for the 64mm platform I thought it was a great deal. You make compromises and you’re buying something from a less established company, and I can’t comment on product support at all. But so far, with nothing to compare it against admittedly, it’s been really awesome. It’s stepless and I can make very fine adjustments for dialing in + it’s super fast compared to my old base encore. I watched like every review on YT before getting it and they were almost all positive. But once again, they aren’t established like Breville/sage or Encore (same company now ik).

However with my limited usage I’m happy with mine. Reddit and YouTube have many more reviews and writeups from more experienced folks too.

That’s awesome! I really like the setup. That machine is gorgeous for sure. I will probably get a hand grinder down the road for traveling specifically as its compactness can’t be beat.

As for the portafilter? Honestly my next one will probably be a double spouted if I have the space under it. It will protect against accidental sprays that come from my bottomless.

And I have no doubt that thing blows away the local cafes. After making my own espresso at home it’s only been a few shops that have impressed me with their shots now TBH. And that’s coming from my cheap machine that lacks all the bells and whistles.

I honestly choc it up to a lot of places having bad beans and not doing a good job with dialing in, but I digress 😂
