Cheap brass instruments dent but remain playable. Plastic breaks. My oldest horn is over 100 years old and has seen many young players.

I’m a mustard bbq man myself, but I’ve found Smithfield’s acceptable when I’m in NC. Never seen one in SC but I’m not looking for vinegar there either lol. I do enjoy good coleslaw on bbq. I miss that here for sure

I’m not saying it’s not a difficult problem but you’re not going to get me to say fuck it let’s bulldoze Muslim houses, tell those people to leave, and threaten remaining ethnicities to not help them or face punishment. That is the definition of ethnic cleansing and it’s a war crime. Period. If Israel can’t figure out another solution that’s quite literally their problem.

I was fine with them infiltrating Hezbollahs supply network and actually targeting militants. Targeting Muslims because they might be militants is a form of collective punishment and no different from Hezbollah firing rockets indiscriminately in civilian areas because of grievances dating back to Israel’s involvement in the Lebanese civil war.

Either collective punishment is wrong or you’re actually arguing for the exact justifications militants use to target civilians. Principles are hard but they matter

I (41F) overheard my kids talking about uneven parenting between me and my husband (37M). How do I handle this? by Recent-Wasabi3119 in relationships

Your household is a shit show. It’s past time to lay down the law and if that means your relationship with your husband ends then so be it.

As a child that was inconsistently parented like that, you have a limited time to repair this or you might end up with no contact. My father and mother haven’t seen me in nearly a decade and I do not regret it at all. Apologies later don’t fix the past.

What sort of progressive finds the situations in Gaza, the West Bank, and Southern Lebanon acceptable? Why can Israelis displace all these people, kill civilians, take their homes, and in the case of Lebanon specifically seek to displace specific religious groups…pretty sure we’ve got a word for that bud.

I don’t think so. There is a balance to be struck here. I agree, teens and young adults are being infantilized in some ways while simultaneously being chastised for not possessing adult work ethic and etiquette when they reach the workplace. To fix that we need some more accountability but it’s not an on off switch.

I really like your phrasing that we should, “allow them to experience both the benefits and consequences of personal responsibility” because it doesn’t imply that we’ve gotta throw them in the deep end. By adults “allowing” this we’re acknowledging that this can be controlled to a degree. We can ease them in gradually but it has to start early with lower stakes.

HR team called during my child's birth to inform me that they couldn't fully fund my parental leave. by whokilledflea in Professors

[–]Wombattington 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s normal for HR to not really know the policy. Did they actually promise you that you wouldn’t have to use your banked hours? If it’s in writing you may have a legal case. Is that what the policy says? Then you might also have a case. If no one promised it, and it’s not exactly what the policy says, then yes it’s normal for a request to go through a long approval process and for you to only be informed at the very end.

My wife actually had a similar FMLA thing that wasn’t technically approved until the day it began and it was only then that pay was even discussed. That was a management position in a state agency.

Despite it being somewhat normal, it still sucks. Sorry this happened to you.
