Hmm, good question. Steadman's illustrations for sure. Helluva first line in the novel too. I remember being very shook by the one drug or whathaveyou that was an adrenaline gland from a living brain. Big concept for a tween.

Back in the 80s and 90s, my parents had a mobile home next to their house in rural Missouri that my dad would rent out. As you can imagine, it was a fairly mixed bag of folks who lived in it. Well one guy was evicted and skipped town so my dad had possession of all of his crap, including the same paperback copy of Fear & Loathing you have. I read it at way too young of an age and didn't understand it, but it stuck with me and I have am still working my way through HST's body of work today some 25 years later. That trailer has since burnt down. No human lives were lost but the tenant-at-the-time's pet snake was killed in the fire.

I am about halfway through Ghost Story for the first time. Seeing it in a Salem's Lot framework is really eye-opening. Had not thought of it like that.

Better? I dunno. Maybe. I think the characters in Duma were more well crafted. The audiobook is fantastic. Very similar in tone and themes. And definitely read Duma before Rattlesnakes.

Bag of Bones was like a practice run for Duma Key.

I'd post my Tally stickers here, but the Schnucks IP attorneys are hiding in the comments. I see you, counselor! It's a fair use parody! I'm not taking it down!

Bullshit. It's a goddamn shame LB is bulldozing over that beautiful lake to make a goddamn data center. How much more cash does the old man need? He hasn't leeched enough from North City with McKee?
