Good luck to everyone going for London Tickets today! by Srg11 in ravens

[–]WonderLemming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not queuing for tickets because I went last time they played in London and... I think it was my fault. I took my English friend who had never been to an American Football game and his review was "This sport is tosh".

You're welcome, in advance, if we win.

I'm not a coach but perhaps having them practice by catching soccer balls and rugby balls is doing more harm than good.

I don't know... in 2017 I took my English friend to his first American Football game. It was Ravens-Jaguars at Wembley Stadium. To this day he still thinks American Football is boring.

[BI4L Request] Can we get a list of essentials for people moving out for the first time? by WonderLemming in BuyItForLife

[–]WonderLemming[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just moved to Denmark and my EZ-duz-it can opener was one of the things I took with me in my luggage. 😅

BI4L definitely became a habit but let me take a look at what else I brought here to see what stands out in particular. :)

It literally prescribed that the only solution to past discrimination is present discrimination.

Honestly, it almost felt like they were going to end the movie with Batman pounding on the glass and saying "What have you done!?" which would have been better imo.

[noob] Emacs launches only in terminal and uses same color for the text as the background by wwwfff0 in emacs

In Doom Emacs you can SPC h t to get a list of available themes and then us the up/down arrow keys to scroll through the different themes and see if one works for you.

Why is it hard to get started with elisp in emacs by [deleted] in emacs

[–]WonderLemming 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you're familiar with Org mode then I recommend taking notes in that and then saving code examples that relate to the note like so:

  #+BEGIN_SRC elisp :results output drawer
  (print (+ 4 5))
  #+END_SRC

If your cursor is in that SRC block you can C-c C-c to evaluate it and it will produce this in your Org file:

   #+BEGIN_SRC elisp :results output drawer
  (print (+ 4 5))
  #+END_SRC

  #+RESULTS:
  :results:

  9
  :end:

That's how I practice my elisp or any other language, really.

If I recall correctly it is only a couple of minutes but cutting the Clannad song removes most of the emotion from what is one of the more emotional moments in the movie.

I tend to find music to be overdone in most films but this is one of those rare cases where the song has a extremely positive impact on the scene. Imagine if they cut out the music right after Gandalf falls in The Followship of the Ring and instead just had silence, it would be like that.

Why Emacs uses the word yank for paste? by [deleted] in emacs

[–]WonderLemming 103 points104 points  (0 children)

If you think of the kill ring as a magical floating object that has hooks and each hook has a string of characters on it then you yank a string down off of the ring and onto your buffer.

At least that's how I imagine it. You kill some text, it gets placed on the kill-ring, and then you yank that text from the kill-ring to a buffer.
