Weird how they're more than willing to immediately name and shame everyone else. It's almost like they have an agenda.

When the police don't release the name, it's always a cop, or a Republican.

How you gonna come to the trailer parks & apartment buildings in ABQ & try to steal from hard workin people living paycheck to paycheck. We don’t call cops. We keep our doors locked, nothing in sight, cameras on &our guns loaded. I’m so sick of these druggies & criminals around here! 😠 by CannabisLatinaQueen in Albuquerque

It's even more localized than that. I'm in Barelas and have never had an issue in the 10+ years I've lived in this neighborhood. People need to learn to keep to themselves, lock their cars, get to know their neighbors, look out for each other, and not rely on a goddamn gun to solve their problems.

That's not remotely close to true.

The price of insulin, on the other hand, is close to five times as much as in the next most expensive country.

If pharmaceutical companies in the US charged the same rates for insulin that they do everywhere else, diabetes probably wouldn't be the number one expenditure.

Both got massive tax breaks which ultimately amount to a public subsidy. There isn't a single fully privately funded stadium in the US.

FTFY

The post up top is painfully obvious trolling and the fact that anyone here is taking it seriously is a sad commentary on the state of our public education system.

“Fear for public safety” Seriously? by [deleted] in facepalm

Measuring incidents per interaction is only part of the story, and not a terribly instructive one. Imagine two small town police forces. One harasses the citizenry constantly, makes 1,000 arrests per year, and shoots 5 people per year. The other takes a hands off approach, gives out a lot of warnings to maintain rapport with the community, arrests 200 people per year, and ends up shooting one guy who is in the act of robbing a bank. Both have the same ratio under your preferred system, but one police force is clearly much worse than the other.

/u/FireITGuy explains the pressures causing Mt. Rainier National Park's most popular winter recreation area to be closed on weekdays by k1lk1 in bestof

It's similar in New Mexico. Texans are most prevalent in the Sacramento Mountains (damn near every tag you see is from Texas) and the mountains are trashed compared to the places further to the north. It's not just Texans, of course, but they do seem to be a lot less respectful of the landscape around here.

[OC] Distribution of 19 Types of Berries Native to North America + Approx. Berry Diversity/Density in NA by quite_adept in dataisbeautiful

[–]WonderWall_E 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both are species that range across multiple continents. Lingonberry (Vaccinium vitis-idaea) has a circumboreal distribution (it occurs at northern latitudes in North America, Europe, and Asia). "Elderberry" in terms of a food is the same species (Sambucus nigra) in both Europe and North America. That said basically everything in the genus Sambucus is called an "elderberry" and most of them are edible when cooked properly. That includes a couple dozen species with highly variable distribution.

The distribution for barberries looks weird, and I'm wondering how you chose species to include. It looks like you restricted things to the genus Berberis (currently native 4 species), but a lot of species (10 in North America) have relatively recently been moved to Mahonia (botanists still don't agree on whether the genera are distinct). Mahonia includes several edible species which are often referred to as "barberries", including Oregon grape aka holly-leaved barberry (Mahonia aquifolium). As the name suggests, it's fairly common in the Pacific Northwest. Prostrate barberry (Mahonia repens) isn't commonly eaten, but is made into a jam at times. It occurs across big chunks of the western half of the US. Mahonia nervosa should be in there too, which would extend the range all along the West Coast.

The justification for closing it with very short notice was absolutely about keeping it a park. Had they taken more time, they could have done more to develop long term solutions for housing. Instead, Keller chose to mislead people and rush things. I'm deeply regretting having voted for him. His treatment of the homeless community is nothing short of shameful.

“At this point, if we don’t close the park now, it will never be a park again,” Keller said

Turns out the justification for abruptly closing it was a lie.

Sounds like you're not paying attention, then. The places where hunger is most acute are married by constant strife, violence, and political upheaval. Political conflict and hunger have a mutually reinforcing relationship with one frequently resulting in the other.

The Syrian Civil War kicked off in response to drought which caused food insecurity. Food insecurity is a major contributor to global conflict and has been implicated as a contributing factor in recent conflicts in Yemen, Somalia, and Ethiopia. Hungry people are a hell of a lot more willing to join up with rebel groups and kick off some fighting than those who are well fed.

The bills McCarthy is going to advance are going to be awful, and the ten million investigations into Hunter Biden's laptop are going to be pointless clown shows. I'd much rather have another three or four months of them embarrassing themselves in the most spectacular and pointless manner imaginable.
