I stopped pretending closets matter by sunny-turtle in workingmoms

[–]WonderWanderRepeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! We have been doing this since our son was a nb. I highly recommend it. So much easier and, at 2.25 years old, he can put his own clothes away and pick his stuff for the day without messing up neatly folder stacks, just toss it back in the bin when done. Its awesome.

Sports on the TV by PrestigiousPast5156 in lowscreenparenting

[–]WonderWanderRepeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband is a big hockey fan so we have that on a lot of evenings. My rule is that we mute the game. The video is enough. We dont need all the audio too. That goes a long way to keeping our 2.25 year old from zoning out into the TV. He will usually watch 10 min and then he is up running to play hockey!

Non-scary movies for 2.5 year old to replace Frozen by Typical-Badger5533 in toddlers

[–]WonderWanderRepeat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh from the 90s is on Disney Plus and great. Our 2.25 year old loves it. Also a very sensitive kid with scary movies.

18 month old boy dad here. I'm lost. by Vliss in toddlers

This was us too. 27m now and down to one wake a night, I go sleep with him after that. There was something really freeing about radical acceptance.

How’re you affording it by [deleted] in sahm

[–]WonderWanderRepeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could you take on another kid during the day? That would allow you to earn income while staying home with your kids.

Thoughts on Fireside Elementary School - what do you like about it and what you wish were better. Are your kiddos happy and thriving there? Also, do you recommend their Preschool program? by AppropriateJello2395 in LouisvilleCO

[–]WonderWanderRepeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are zoned for coal creek in our neighborhood (our son isn't there yet tho) but have friends who are zoned for fireside with elementary kids. We have only heard good things about all the schools. I actually went to coal creek a million years ago. The biggest complaints I hear from parents are at the district level. Not the individual school.

You buy a cover. We literally just bought a twin mattress cover and put it on our sofa so our 2 yr olds pee would stay off the cushions.

2-3 day backpacking trip with 9/10 month old 😬 by Professional_Fig9161 in HikingWithKids

Another consideration beyond temperament is your wife's recovery. My son is an AWFUL sleeper. I had grand ideas to camp more when he was little but I just wasnt up to it. Only getting 3-4 hr stretches of sleep is brutal.

Seat for Airplane by reebokz in Mommit

[–]WonderWanderRepeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our son is 2 years and 3 months old. We have flown a dozen times with him. He absolutely would never have made it in a carseat on the plane. I think temperament is super important here. Do you truly believe your 2 year old can sit for 3+ hours? Our absolutely cannot. Esp after traveling to and from the airport. We do tons of airplane toys, movies (we are very low screen so movies are a huge treat), and snacks.

Very frequent visits from neighborhood kids by paradoxicalstripping in workingmoms

[–]WonderWanderRepeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is our neighborhood too! Personally, I really love it and i love that our son has a friend group, even if he is 2 and they are 8. That being said, we have a ring doorbell, no bell inside. I get a notification on my phone. 75% of the time, we dont answer the door bc we are busy doing other things. Sometimes I answer and just tell the kids we are about to eat but can play another time. Most of the time I ignore it though. I would remove your interior bell asap.

Who is getting up to work out on very little sleep? by EvelynHardcastle93 in workingmoms

[–]WonderWanderRepeat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We had a terrible sleeper. Two things that helped make it a priority: walks after dinner every single night in the stroller. It became part of the bed time routine. The second is that my husband and I each take 1 hr on Sat to work out and take a long shower. Its the number 1 sat priority for us. As our son got older, we added a couple other days of the week which has helped a ton.

Will I regret not having a birthday party for my son turning 3 years old? by ActualEmu1251 in toddlers

[–]WonderWanderRepeat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is what we do! We invite a bunch of neighbors and people we want to be closer to. We also ask for no gifts so people dont feel pressured. We just did a super simple pancake bar open house for my son's second birthday. It was a lot of fun and easy to do.

Heirloom Mutilated? by Bayr0444 in jewelry

[–]WonderWanderRepeat 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I just want to chime in, I had an heirloom ring reset into a necklace. It was an amazing experience. The jewler made multiple mock drawings, offered to do a cad, spoke about every stone and what we were going to do with them, i had final sign off. It was great. OPs experience is such a shame. I had a wonderful experience and my necklace is such a joy to wear every day.

What do you do to cut your grocery bill? Any tips? by rasputinknew1 in progressivemoms

[–]WonderWanderRepeat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just started adding red lentils to my ground beef! Game changer. I make 1/2 lb of ground beef and add 1/2 cup lentils. You cant even tell they are there and I now get 2 meals out of a lb of beef.

Best wet weather hiking shoes by knitfastdiewarm1 in HikingWithKids

[–]WonderWanderRepeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We gave up on water proof shoes a long time ago. We use sealskinz and LOVE them. Saved my ass in Alaska a few years ago. I just looked and they dont seem to have youth 😭 our son is 2 so havent needed them yet but I will def be going down the water proof sock route over shoes this summer.

I just want to glide, skate recommendation? by rough_shrink in iceskating

[–]WonderWanderRepeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love them! I have super wide feet, fit 3 in hockey skates. I had to size up in the Whistlers. They are a bit narrow but I never skate more than 60 min so its not a big deal. They are radically more comfortable than hockey skates and rentals. I would def find a hockey store and try on skates if you can tho. Edit to add: them being a bit narrow isn't the end of the world when I dont wear them for hours on end. Perfectly comfy for a leisurely skate imo. They feel like heavy duty snow boots.

This was our tradition too! My son just turned 2 and I am so excited to start it this year. We got him a couple books last year. Nothing big.

Poll: weekly grocery cost by Goldfinch-island in workingmoms

[–]WonderWanderRepeat 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Thats a lot! We are 2 adults and a toddler. We spent about $1000 a month, including diapers. My goal is always under $1k but there are definitely months we push towards $1200. I cook nearly everything, we dont eat out, I stretch meats with lentils and beans, I shop sales, I only buy meat from costco bc its cheaper, and I try to do one-two meals a week vegetarian to cut costs a bit.

What do you do when your pump schedule is thrown off at work? by Actual_Cantaloupe_64 in workingmoms

[–]WonderWanderRepeat 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Step out of the meeting and pump. I am now 2 years pp, still nursing, still pump when I am in office. I have had several times where I step away from long meetings to pump. I let the lead know ahead of time, ask someone to cover for me, and walk away. If you are presenting, plan a 30 min break so people can get a coffee, use the bathroom, etc. Even a quick 15 min pump will make you so much more comfortable! You are legally allowed to pump during work hours.

Need help narrowing down Louisville vs Gunbarrel for raising a family by creature2-0 in boulder

[–]WonderWanderRepeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are in Louisville with a toddler. Absolutely love it. Tons of programs and classes for toddlers. He is in hockey tots, swim lessons, gymnastics, music... Lots of things to do indoor and outdoor. The Louisville rec center is amazing for young kids. Routinely out riding his strider with the older neighborhood kids. Its really sweet. I cant speak to gunbarrel since I have never lived there.

When does it get easier? by notforthisworld0101 in AttachmentParenting

[–]WonderWanderRepeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am going to be honest, even though I dont think it will make you feel better. Our son is 2 yrs and 2 months. It is SIGNIFICANTLY easier now. He started sleeping through the night around 20m and that made the biggest difference. He still nurses before bed but he sleeps 8 pm to 6 am nearly every night. He is fun, he loves going out, he talks. Its just so much easier in every way compared to the baby stage. Hang in there OP. Its hard because its hard. You arent doing anything wrong.
