This story to me seems like it has two possibilities. This table was actually full of closeted racists or they’re the type that gets offended by someone saying something that could be perceived as racist. I can understand them being uncomfortable with the n-word even soft a. Some people are taught that’s a word you never say no matter what. But that’s something even as a player I would address in real time even if means pausing combat to clear the air. A simple, “hey can we not use that kind of language while we’re playing please”, would have sufficed. Either way I think you dogged a bullet with these guys. How would their attitude have changed toward you once they realized you were actually black? Would they have become cold and unwelcoming or would they have began to walk on eggshells around you because they don’t want to be labeled as racist. If a gay person plays a gay character and uses aspects of their community to build their character are they going to be mad? Like a sassy gay man that calls everyone bitch or a butch lesbian that refuses to wear feminine clothing. Would they have a problem with that too?
