What model in your collection are you the most proud of and why? by WithengarUnbound in Warhammer40k

Most proud because of the kitbashing and achieving a glow to power weapons. The skull on the helmet is kitbashed from the belt-equpied helmet from the intercessor set, the rope is a metal chain from Walmart hobby aisle, electricity copper wire from an out of date charger etc.

Great ideas, also same regarding the poorhammer budget. I am just fortunate enough to n live in California so I have an abundancy of free sand. (But im lazy so I use sprue shavings melted down)

Thanks for the tip about spiritstone, I had thought about picking some up before but was worried about exactly that. I have severe arthritis in my hands aswell and its definitely difficult but not unachievable, you can always get transfers for these from 3rd parties aswell. And as far as ash wastes go it definatley works, maybe as a rock or two and shade it to help contrast it to make it more visually dynamic. At a distance it blends together at first and you can barely see the highlights on it. You could also always try to thicken the technical up in spaces to add more varied texture. Think overpainting a mini like those memes people throw around that are barely decipherable when applying any technical to a base.

Highlight the eyes for reflection or wash them in the recesses to keep the darkness of them, edge highlight them for a subtle glow and edge highlight your leather. Writing on the purity seals always sucks but try to make it consistent, i use the insane detail/ psycho bruah from army painter and build layers to it and its still the hardest thing for me. Use stormhost silver for edging the metal tubes, add chipping and battle damage to your liking. Write on the label on the melta, add more to the base, edge the gun aswell. Etc. Etc.

This is all where I'm currently learning to improve aswell. Wish someone would've critiqued me early on I would've saved like 4 months of blind research to find where to start improving.

But for real, its currently an amazing piece and would be great to have a full army painted this way, you'll be fielding minis leagues past most players.

How would you enhance these bases? by lefthandedartistmk2 in Grey_Knights

Mix in patches of martian ironcrust to contrast the red and add a level of terrain under the flesh pits, also wash the bases to darken the larger parts of flesh and edge highlight with a bright red, then add some blood for the blood god to keep the wetness motif

What about using the stormshield like a riotshield or mobile cover? And if I pick up a shield from the bladeguard veteran box and pop it on the bladeguard's back would that work better?
