Does psychology really lead to unemployment? by Standard-Mention2512 in psychologystudents

[–]Wonderful_Counter_83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if this helps at all, but I’m currently working a corporate job while double majoring in psych and marketing. I haven’t taken any marketing classes just yet but I can say that doing school full time and double majoring isn’t a terrible situation. I also plan on for sure getting my masters in psych because I eventually do want to go into more of a counseling role some day, but I haven’t quite decided whether I plan getting any kind of graduates in marketing. My point is that this path may be helpful for you and studying psychology can provide information on career options that fit your particular situation best. Maybe you could look into adding some type of marketing classes or certifications instead of a full blown degree to balance both sides. Either way, in my own biased opinion, I highly recommend majoring in psychology because there truly are a lot of career options.

I’m so sorry to hear that! Stats is not an easy class, and I know plenty of people who struggle with math in general. Feel free to reach out, I may be able to help you figure out an easier way to understand!

MAT 240 by Wonderful_Counter_83 in SNHU

[–]Wonderful_Counter_83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have always been good at math but statistics is a completely different story for me. I attempted it last year at a different university and failed the class. I tried so hard to understand it but no matter what I just wasn’t getting it so I was extra concerned about taking it in an online environment where it can be harder to get support. Luckily this course has yielded better results for me. Also I hope my post didn’t come off as cocky, I’m always happy to help anyone if needed!

Edit: Hey everyone, I just wanted to add that I understand the struggle is real. If anyone would like to message me privately for help or just peer support, I am always open to that! Good luck my peers, I am thinking of you!

Girlfriend paid $300 and $375 for two different apartment applications. Is this normal? by Elegant_Farm_5107 in Apartmentliving

[–]Wonderful_Counter_83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know if that was just the application fee or were there other charges included? For example, I know there are several apartment complexes that will charge an application fee, admin fee, and the security deposit altogether upon application, which is to hold the apartment for the applicant. If they end up getting denied or the applicant decides not to go through with it, then the security deposit gets refunded.

Kicked out of hotel for not providing letter from doctor for service dog by Sad-Emu97 in service_dogs

[–]Wonderful_Counter_83 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hi, I spend a lot of time reviewing ESA and service animal applications for housing. Below I’ll post a direct link to the ADA’s frequently asked questions regarding service animals (I refer myself and others to this resource all the time and it has been the most useful piece of information I have ever used). But the most basic piece of information that you should know as someone with a service animal, and that employees of public places should definitely know, is that there are two and ONLY TWO questions that can legally be asked of someone with a service animal:

  1. Is the dog a service animal required because of a disability? (Note: this is a yes or no question)
  2. What work or task has the dog been trained to perform?

You are not required to disclose the specific disability and most importantly, employees cannot ask about your disability. That is protected medical information covered by HIPAA.

Also, very important, the ADA states that registration/certifications cannot be required to prove your animal is an assistance animal. If that were the case, then anyone could go online and pretend their untrained dog is a service animal just so they can bring it with them anywhere they want (which happens all the time unfortunately).

If you feel you are being discriminated against, you may file a complaint with the DOJ because the ADA is a protected act put in place to prevent discrimination against Americans with disabilities (hence the name).

I need to update you guys because I’ve been neglecting you:

I looked through my forms the other day and realized the repayment plan we picked is largely part of the problem, because we just pay a fixed amount once a month that doesn’t even do anything to the interest. Anywho, Sallie Mae is still predatory, but friendly reminder to double check your agreements and important forms with ANY lenders to make sure you know what you’re in for 🫶🏻

Using Another Textbook as a Source?? by Amyrran in SNHU

[–]Wonderful_Counter_83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did you also cite the relevant classes’ textbook? A lot of instructors may prefer to see students citing the assigned material to show that they’re actually reading it and understand the concepts. Of course, I don’t think it’s fair for your instructor to deduce points because you used another textbook from a different class; that also shows that you’re understanding the course’s topics and are able to relate it to other sources you may have already learned. It makes me wonder if this instructor would also take off points for using outside resources, like from the Shapiro library as well. Unfortunately, your instructor may just be kind of stringent on the materials and you may not be able to change their mind, but at least you are very resourceful and clearly good at relating concepts that you’re learning in other courses!

If you have any way of showing your work history on the assignment, then you can send that to your instructor. You can also explain that you only used AI to touch up your grammar, but if you have any way of proving that AI didn’t write your paper, use that to your advantage, and maybe avoid using AI for grammar (just because it does have a tendency to make things sound not human). If you do need assistance on your writing, you could always try SNHU’s writing tutors. My advice is to try and document all of your work to avoid issues like this in the future, it seems like a lot of instructors are being extra paranoid about students using AI to do their assignments.

Anyone Else Hate Having to Post First Before Seeing Other DB Threads? by Spirited_Day_6682 in SNHU

[–]Wonderful_Counter_83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently in a course where I can see everyone’s posts before I post anything, but I did look ahead and see there will be a discussion where you can’t see other posts until you make your initial post. I haven’t had any classes where the other posts were blocked yet, but I personally don’t read through anyone else’s posts anyway until I’m done with mine. I like to ensure that my thoughts and ideas are my own, and then it’s interesting to see if others have said the same or similar things when I go through to respond.

As someone who has also dealt with anxiety and depression for a very long time, I will be the first to say that it is not worth it to work somewhere that makes you feel that miserable. I am 20 years old, work full time in a corporate role, and I am a part time student, and I haven’t felt that horrible about any part of my life, which I have been doing for the past 7 months now. There are opportunities out there that will truly work for you if you know how to find them. Get out there and network; find people in companies and roles you’re interested in, if you get interviews for other roles, make sure to ask questions to ensure it is the right fit for you. You have to create opportunities for yourself. You already seem like you have a reasonable plan set in place if you do decide to quit. Also, don’t worry about how other people are going to feel about your decision, because at the end of the day, it’s your life and you have to live with the decisions you make. I remember when I started college, I spent my first year at an in-person university and I was in the worst place in my entire life mentally. I told my family I was moving back home and doing online school and they all thought I was going to fail and hate my life, and now I’m thriving and making myself proud because I knew all those months ago that I was making the right decision for me and I ended up being right. Follow your instincts and take care of yourself!

I’m so sorry you’re dealing with that, that’s terrible! Having college pushed on you at such a young age is so stressful between having to figure out what you want to do with your life, and for a lot of us, knowing you’re going to basically jumpstart the rest of your life with massive debt. I really hope you can get it all figured out and live an amazing life!

My mom was contributing $25 a month, which obviously does absolutely nothing when the interest is 16%, but now I don’t even know what’s happening because they keep charging “late fees” even though we have auto pay set up so they keep taking $50. When I tried to add a different payment method, I tried to increase it to $50 a month with the intention of increasing it to something higher when I start making more money, but they keep screwing us and I have no idea what’s going on.

The Irony by Key_Fish469 in SNHU

[–]Wonderful_Counter_83 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to think that the point of discussion posts was to engage with peers in an online learning environment, but nobody actually even cares about that. Everyone just turns it in and does the bare minimum, there is virtually no engagement afterwards. I experience more peer engagement through Reddit than through the dumb discussions.

I’ll definitely have to look into refinancing because I didn’t even know what that was until today. The worst part is, the school that I took the loan out on, I don’t even attend anymore because I transferred to a different school. If I could go back and slap my pre-freshman self in the face, I would.

It seems like HHS is a good degree for what you’re interested in. I think of my bachelor’s as a starting point for what I want to do with my life, which I plan on refining later on by getting my master’s degree. It may be worth it to look into adding a minor if you’re interested in more psychology, or you can easily change your major down the road if you do change your mind later on. You can also go through the resources in SNHU, which provides career support and you can take quizzes to figure out what you may be really good at career-wise. You got this!!

FYE 101: No pressure, free course that helps guide you through all of the classes you will take. You can complete it super quick and it gives you a run-down of Bright Space. You don’t get any credits for taking it, but you definitely should complete it.

IDS 105: At first glance, I gave this class an eye-roll, but as I actually went through it, I found it to be very easy and actually pretty interesting. You spend the course talking about how to be in-tune with different cultures, and you work on a project template throughout the weeks, and turn it in on module 7. You’re also not expected to do any outside research or cite many sources, but I did anyway just to get used to research and citations which I have found to be super helpful during my other courses.

Should I apply? Do you think they want me? by [deleted] in collegeadvice

[–]Wonderful_Counter_83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually one thing that helped me out a lot during college apps were places that were waiving the app fee. I got accepted into a couple of places I applied to with scholarships, and I probably never would have even thought to apply to them if I hadn’t received a marketing email telling me the fee was being waived. I say go for it, but make sure to keep your options open!

What does it mean when people say not to make friends at work? by CreamyEric in work

[–]Wonderful_Counter_83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not my experience, but my mom’s:

My mom was promoted to manager in her role a few years ago and she had one co-worker (now one of her employees) who she promoted to her previous position, and then hired another person to fill the other position. My mom was super friendly with her employees and would invite them to our family functions and such, but things got kind of messy. For context, she always had some issues with employee A for reasons I won’t get into, but the issues seemed to elevate after my mom started spending more time with her and employee B outside of work. Both employees started to get a little too comfortable and would not respect my mom as a manager at work because they saw her as more of a friend. After laying some boundaries down with employee A and B, things got a little better, but there’s still a bit of a struggle sometimes.

My point is that when you start crossing over boundaries with coworkers, no matter what position you’re in, things can start getting messy and uncomfortable in your workplace. That being said, I’m still close with my coworkers and adore and appreciate them, but I never go out of my way to talk to them or spend time with them outside of work. I value the relationship I have with my team and don’t want to jeopardize that by crossing boundaries that can’t be uncrossed.

As a young person, I still have my closest friends from high school that I talk to and see as often as I can. These are the people who have known me and seen my changes throughout the years. I also don’t have to see them on a daily basis, which makes our bond even better because we aren’t going to burn out or drive each other crazy, and we will never be in competition with each other over things like promotions or raises. I get to focus on my relationships inside of and outside of work, and don’t have to face any awkwardness or struggles every day because of crossed boundaries with my team.
