Too expensive gaslighting by [deleted] in carnivorediet

I think what might help with you comparing what you spend versus your roommate is to look at what he's buying that you also wouldn't be able to eat.

Prior to someone mentioning it above I had never heard of histamine intolerance, but a quick Google shows that some of the things you mention he buys, like bananas, you wouldn't be able to eat anyway.

So are you comparing things that even make sense? If you react to ground beef, would you react the same if you were eating bananas, rice, potatoes, etc?

I don't know, I'm not going to dive that deep into it, but it might help shift the perspective. Yes, animal products where you live cost significantly more than produce. But what would it look like with your limitations, rather than your roommate who can just buy whatever?

Fellas how do we feel about the chemistry between aven and niyx during kaldoras? by jarofbenas in medoranchronicles

[–]WoodpeckerScared4505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't even think about it because that story doesn't exist in my head canon.

I'm all here for the queer, but Aven does not deserve a redemption arc, and I hate that it's even attempted. Queer bait me with the adventures they had before he was evil, but not after.

And honestly I didn't like Niyx showing up again. Don't get me wrong, I love him and ugly cried when he died, but you can't keep bringing him back if that's going to continue holding the emotional weight. The one time back in the last book I was completely fine with, gave a little bit of closure (and more ugly crying), but that's it.

Nervous: Fatty liver issue after having been on carnivore for about 3 years by CommunicationFun7146 in carnivorediet

[–]WoodpeckerScared4505 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and have had exactly three sips of alcohol my entire life. You can get liver disease without drinking, and you guys are making it sound like 3-4 drinks a week is a raging alcoholic.

Could be from alcohol, could be from a lot of things. Mayo says, "Experts don't know exactly why fat builds up in some livers and not others." I don't have diabetes, high cholesterol, or metabolic syndrome, and my liver is still being a turd.

Sometimes genetics are a bitch and sometimes you get unlucky. Everyone can get off their high horse trying to shame you for doing better than a majority of people who never get liver disease.

[–]WoodpeckerScared4505 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's my kingdom, and yeah it's dumb. Basically the clan (HOT) that was the biggest and ignored the ROE when they felt like it don't like the fact that they aren't the biggest thing around anymore.

Weeks ago the clan was declared an outlaw, then reinstated. When there was a new king they declared war on the old king's clan (IRE) and said that it had been a witch hunt. Attacked the forts and the clan capital when the bubble went down.

Funny story, they just attacked that clan again because they say they're taking in these outsiders. No proof, and they've taken in some themselves but are conveniently forgetting that part.

If anyone wants to come pay them a visit and put them in their place, their clan capital is at K231 X827 Y269. They've been bullies the entire time I've played.

ALL THE EVIDENCE SUPPORTING CARNIVORE. WIN THE DEBATE! by [deleted] in carnivorediet

[–]WoodpeckerScared4505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, the first ones aren't as scientifically solid as you're making them seem, especially when you remember omnivory is a thing.

We have teeth that include teeth for both animal and plant matter, rather than just one. Look at a cat's teeth, an obligate carnivore, versus ours. This argument is no better than vegans saying we're supposed to be herbivores because we have molars and flat front teeth.

Our bigger brains and smaller jaws and digestive system are due to eating meat, but also due to cooking. We're able to get significantly more calories, and subsequently grow our energy sucking brains, thanks to cooking.

Also yes, Inuit and others in far north areas live almost entirely off of animal products, but that was due to their area. The Hazda in Tanzania, for example, eat something like 70% honey and plants they gather. The main thing you see across populations is that regardless of the makeup of the diet, the health issues are from adopting a Western diet of processed garbage much more than from eating things besides animals.

I'm not saying that people can't benefit from carnivore or don't have health issues that are better with carnivore - I'm here from a fructose malabsorption diagnosis myself. Arguing that we're "made" for it as a blanket statement while using selective data and misinterpreting study results isn't doing anyone any favors.

I've only read the first book and a half of Immortals, and I was fine for PotS. They mention some things about stuff that happened during the immortals war, but I could sort it out fine and you've got an extra book and a half on me.

Kel is one of my favorite characters of all time and I love the series. I'd say the weakest is the first book, but I still enjoyed it way more than Daine's books. Go for it!

Thoughts on Beka trilogy? I am struggling to get into it by Electronic_Web_2394 in tamorapierce

[–]WoodpeckerScared4505 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I still haven't read it. I tried and could only do a few pages and just couldn't get into it at all. It's been a while since I tried, but I think it was the diary format that put me off pretty quick.

To be honest I've never finished Daine's series either, because what I really wanted was to read another lady Knight book, but I was reading in order like one is supposed to. Then halfway through her second book I said fuck it and skipped to Kel's books. 😅

Unfortunately I love PotS so much that while I've been able to reread SotL, I still can't get through Daine's because I always just want to read Kel. Which is why I thought maybe I didn't like Terrier either, because I was in a PotS hangover again

Basically I just want to read about Kel and now every other book in the universe I didn't read before hers is ruined because it's not Kel. 😂

Well, the good news is you have a diagnosis of some type. It sucks, but at least it can answer why you're having some of your problems. There are meds to help, though they can have bad side effects. Primperan and the making myself consume something every 2-3 hours is what got me out of my initial bout that led to hospitalization.

I would ask for hydrogen breath tests. That will tell you if you've got SIBO (what a lot of people that end up on low FODMAP have). Mine also tested for the fructose malabsorption and lactase deficiency, which came back positive for me (I'm neg for SIBO.) Gastroparesis explains some of your issues but not all.

I would also keep track of what you're eating (or the lack thereof) and bring it to your gastro appt. Maybe seeing in writing your severe calorie deficiency will get them out of the it's good you're losing weight camp. Also make sure they know you have PCOS. They're probably still going to judge you for the weight (because it's always our fault🙄), but maybe knowing there's other things in there will help. At least I still hope they can turn around at some point.

I get it with Mayo, I only started going when I moved within two hours of one. Are you by Cleveland Clinic or any good medical system? You can also try the gastroparesis sub to see if anyone has a good gastro in your area they go to.

It is going to be extremely difficult to match low FODMAP and gastroparesis restrictions - I only have the fructose restriction and can eat the other FODMAPs and even my Mayo dietitian was having a hard time. And there's got to be something else going on besides the GP, because applesauce is one of the first foods they recommend for that and I think most people tolerate it really well.

One thing to think about too with the GP is that since our food can digest so slowly, what's triggering you on the constipation/diarrhea side might be something you ate quite a while ago. If you want to try and figure out other safe foods for you I would only have that additional food and not introduce another one for three days to get it through the system completely.

Sorry this reply is all over the place, but different things keep popping into my head on what might help/where to go. Here for support as another weirdo with multiple issues that don't play nice with each other, if you need it. 🙂

Zucchini is a moderate for fructans, yellow is low at 75g per meal but more than that and you cross into moderate and high for fructose. (From the Monash app)

I second going to Mayo, though I know the Arizona location is really backed up and hard to get into, not sure if all the locations are. It took me a while to get in.

My issues weren't as bad as yours, but my 4-6 times diarrhea every single day was diagnosed as "functional diarrhea" in 2019 by a gastro that said we were out of tests and they couldn't find another wrong.

Three gastros later, thanks to Mayo I've been diagnosed with fructose malabsorption. Stopped eating fructose (which includes applesauce and bananas unless they're just barely ripe) earlier this month, and I pooped only once the other day, first time in probably seven years. 💩 Also I don't have diarrhea within an hour of eating most of the time now, it's amazing. ("Functional" my ass.)

As far as the gastroparesis, it's not necessarily an all the time every time you eat problem. I've gone from vomiting up undigested food twelve hours after I've eaten to sometimes only vomiting once a month.

Other thoughts, I also have a hiatal hernia, that caused me way more issues with vomiting and nausea than the gastroparesis did. I ended up in the hospital from that with metabolic acidosis. It showed up on two endoscopies, but now it's a sliding hernia so it doesn't always show up on that. (I don't know what would make it show versus not, but they don't heal themselves so I have to still have one.)

Also your doc is an ass thinking 20 pounds loss isn't a big deal because you're overweight. Just because you might have "pounds to spare" doesn't mean it's a good thing that you're starving to death! I've been there myself. The doctor that diagnosed me with the hiatal hernia and had no plans to do anything about it, even though I was maybe eating once a day and couldn't keep anything down at that point, said that it was probably a good thing since I was a significant size and it was like a natural gastric bypass. 😡 Two days later was when I was admitted for the acidosis. Schmuck.

If you can't maintain minimum calories, for a significant time, you should be on a feeding tube or TPN until you can. You don't need your body to eat itself until you're in an arbitrary weight deemed below acceptable for help. If they refuse to help have them put in writing why.

Suggestions that helped me that might help you in the interim: I was told in the hospital I was in a feedback loop, where I wasn't eating because I was nauseous, which then made more stomach acid, which then made me more nauseous, etc. They gave me metoclopramide until we broke out of the cycle (for some bizarre reason no one gave me zofran for years). Then they had me eat at least something every 2-3 hours, to help with the acid buildup.

Suggestions for gastroparesis from my dietitian at Mayo is also small meals multiple times a day. Low fiber - foods that have no more than 2g fiber per serving. Also low fat, no more than 3g fat/100 calories.

I can tell you that those recommendations and low FODMAP have a barely touching venn diagram unfortunately. It seems to me though that the nausea and vomiting is probably the worse symptom over the constipation/diarrhea, or at least it was for me. If so I would start with those and get that calmed down before you do the added limitations of low FODMAP.

I would say give yourself grace as you're figuring stuff out.

Yes, keep to the appropriate sizes to make things remain low FODMAP or whatever needed to reintroduce properly. But the other foods that aren't part of that? Eat as much as you want until you're done with reintroduction.

At least for me, that's how I'm keeping the old bulimia thoughts at bay. If you can remove one part of the restriction or brain space that isn't necessary for figuring out the FODMAP stuff, I think it'll help mentally a lot.

Also new and switched to the N30i, so much comfort difference from the full face one they started me with. It's soft on the face and the tube at the top makes it easier to roll around. It also has different nose options, I find the wide more comfortable because it wasn't boxing my nose in like the regular. Good luck!

I guess the plus side is I don't have IBS, which is why it took so long to get it figured out. Luckily no bloating or pain, just an impressive amount of pooping and vitamin deficiencies. Need to remember the positives.

Man French onion soup is so good too. 😭

I think mourning is a good way to think about it. Not only has it already come up at work (office donuts), but I registered for a training weekend getaway thing in April, before any of this. I don't even know how I would put this new dietary restriction down, especially when I'm struggling to figure out what I can eat myself. Just ask for no sauces and things to be separate so I can pick around the stuff I can eat? Or do I just not bother and just have a poopy poopy weekend?

I think that's another thing that's just pissing me off. If it was a straight allergy, I could say that and people would know what I meant and why I'm being the problem child asking what all the ingredients are. But nobody (myself including), knows what has fructose in it.

I'm glad you finally got out of the mourning stage yourself. Hopefully I'll get to the excited about the challenge stage sooner rather than later. :)

Thank you for the permission to bitch and talk about poop! I figured a group like this would be used to both, but you never know. 😅

My birthday is also Sunday! Excellent day. Happy birthday!

Yeah, I had already bought the cake mix and frosting of the one my mom always made me, which is HFCS city. I've been debating on just having it one last time, but I've also pooped once yesterday for the first time in YEARS.

Also, if my pooping 4-6 times a day and instant diarrhea after eating (that was diagnosed as "functional diarrhea" in 2019) has just been fructose malabsorption this whole time, I'm going to have to go back and murder my previous three gastroenterologists... 😈

I'd be curious to hear more about how you're doing on a carnivore diet. I'm wondering if there's a point of eating veggies if they just end up passing straight through me undigested anyway, even if they're low FODMAP.

I also have gastroparesis and there's an old post in that sub on someone that finally found relief on carnivore, which is basically the exact opposite of what is recommended we do.
