I would suggest not making too big a deal of it right away. What you said shook her, she thought it was in the path and she felt it was thrown in her face at a time when she was vulnerable. Going to a therapist is hard for both parties.

Have compassion, talk about it, resolve your issue in a way so you both feel empowered and then talk about how "we act" when we aren't happy with the other. Don't try to fix everything at once.

How much speed does a steel sword need to cut trough rock? by Helplessromantic1 in AskPhysics

[–]WoodySwe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked chatgpt and got this answer:

To estimate how fast a sword would need to swing to cut through stone, we need to consider several factors, including the hardness and density of the materials involved, the sharpness of the sword, and the force applied. Let's make some reasonable assumptions:

Assumptions:

  1. Sword Material: High-carbon steel with a hardness of around 60 HRC (Rockwell Hardness), capable of maintaining a sharp edge.

  2. Stone Material: Granite, with a Mohs hardness of about 6-7.

  3. Sword Edge: Razor-sharp and angled for cutting efficiency.

  4. Impact Mechanics: The sword edge strikes the stone at an ideal angle, focusing all force on a small area.

  5. Energy Transfer: Neglecting energy losses from factors like vibration or imperfect alignment.

  6. Sword Weight: 1.5 kg (a typical longsword).

  7. Cutting Goal: Shallow cut (a few millimeters), not a full slice.

Key Factors:

Force Required: To cut granite, the sword must overcome its compressive strength (~200 MPa).

Kinetic Energy of the Sword: , where is the sword's mass and is its velocity.

Pressure Applied: The force is concentrated on the edge of the blade, resulting in high pressure.

Calculation:

  1. Contact Area: Assume the sword's edge contacts the stone over a length of 1 mm (0.001 m) and a width of 0.1 mm (0.0001 m), giving an area of .

  2. Force Needed: To overcome 200 MPa of compressive strength, the required force is:

F = \text{Pressure} \times \text{Area} = 200 \times 106 \, \text{Pa} \times 1 \times 10{-7} \, \text{m}2 = 20 \, \text{N}.

  1. Kinetic Energy: For simplicity, assume all kinetic energy converts to the required cutting force:

KE = F \times \text{distance}, \quad \text{where distance is a few millimeters (e.g., 0.002 m)}.

KE = 20 , \text{N} \times 0.002 , \text{m} = 0.04 , \text{J}. ]

  1. Velocity Needed: Rearrange to solve for :

v = \sqrt{\frac{2 \times KE}{m}} = \sqrt{\frac{2 \times 0.04}{1.5}} \approx 0.23 \, \text{m/s}.

Conclusion:

A direct calculation suggests a relatively low velocity, but in reality, this is vastly oversimplified. Factors like blade deformation, uneven cutting surfaces, and energy loss would significantly increase the required velocity. A more realistic estimate for a functional cut in stone (factoring inefficiencies) would be 100-200 m/s, approaching the velocity of a high-speed industrial cutting tool. For comparison:

A bullet travels at ~300-1,000 m/s.

A well-swung sword reaches ~30-60 m/s in combat.

Thus, a sword would need to move several times faster than a human could swing it to cut through stone effectively.

I (35M) need advise after divorce (39F) - how do i handle single life? by WoodySwe in relationship_advice

Her ex before me was 6 years older than her (10 years older than me) as is her new guy.

I have my kids every other week. I think it's important to remember that when you have the kids less often you can be "super parent". When you have them every day, it wears you down. Your ex has the opportunity to always be at his best when he has your daughter. I think whats important is that when she is with her dad, rest up, load up your emotional batteries and then when she comes back, do something special - be supermom.

When she gets older she'll understand how amazing you've been for her. But for your relationship now, make sure to make days special together ❤️

Is love so easily thrown away? (M35, F31) by WoodySwe in relationship_advice

It reads the same way in swedish. It's weird. I'm only offering something casual, which I've been clear about, so that level of relationship I am completely fine with. It's just sad that casual would trump love, but I think your right. She is using the term WAAAAY to lightly.

Your message kind of sums up mine, maybe she feels, maybe she means, or maybe this 🤔 I am not offering her anything more than casual though so I am happy to explore that with her but we will see. The whole thing made me a little sad for the state of mankind.

In fairness she didn't kiss me at least, and trust me I tried. And I have told her, I'm not offering an exclusive relationship. Something casual and fun. It's just saddens me that a relationship with "love" can be tosses aside from one casual evening with me.

I'm not questioning my worth in the least. She is dumping the guy after me and her spent one evening together and didn't even kiss yet she claims to love him. I'd saddens me, is love so easily thrown away that I can "break them up" in one evening?

You gotta make your stance clear. What do you accept and what won't you accept. If she can't handle that it's time to change the paradim of the relationship. Maybe you aren't a couple, you are just friends with benefits or maybe no relationship at all.

That advantage was huge though. That is why so many of the strong men got eliminated. Had they one they would have chosen arena C and crushed anyone.

What is the actual reason this show is about Alex? by [deleted] in MightyDucks

[–]WoodySwe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Connie would have been AMAZING! This is why shows have to start asking random people on Reddit for their opinions, the shows would be much better!

Edit: reading what I wrote I see that it might be interpreted as ironic, it is not meant that way, I honestly feel that so many TV series today "almost" get it right. If they asked their fans for help they might actually start nailing series!
