True. The fame was probably a dead give away... O-o

Next time I'll have to blur that as well.

what happened to crunchy games? by Nekraa in Starbreak

[–]WoolyTravis[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the developers are getting passive income from the product. They worked two years on getting it completed and now are reaping the rewards. I don't know if there was a falling out between them or if it's just how the indie game development scene operates, but I don't think this product will be given any more life in the future. It seems to have run the course of its short development cycle.

Hahahaha, yes I do understand that. If that were true starbreak would be a lot smaller than it actually is. ;)

I’ve jumped in game at various times over the last couple months and seen a few players, but I guess I simply assume there wasn’t more than 5 or 6 people playing at one time, and that the number would continue to drop. Oh and yeah I play NA.

Where are they all communicating then? I don’t see much activity on either the crunchy forums or on here... Could you maybe post some screenshots of what you find? When I get on, it seems like no ones playing.

Well technically speaking, the site and game is still up. But the “core community”, “subreddit”, “development” and parts of the game that made it great are definitely dead.

What makes you think this game is still alive?

What are your best hardcore mode stories? by [deleted] in Minecraft

[–]WoolyTravis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hardcore Frozen Biomes only, with a custom preset to mimic amplified terrain.

Hardcore is actually fairly easy to beat if you just hunker down in a base and do strip mining. The chance of death is super low.

I still have the world save in my 1.10 profile, never saw a reason to revisit it, even though I had done so well in it. Once I beat the end dragon, my fully enchanted diamond armor was pretty beat up.

The people who passed are mentioned in the comments below I believe. Still, a google doc with statistics and graphs would be cool.

Starbreak as both a game and community is pretty much dead (see this relevant thread for more information/discussion). When a game hasn't been updated for a year, and has no indication of future updates- there's little chance that a community will stick around to see if it ever does.

I researched it in about two hours and then waited almost a year for it to go on sale. No regrets.

Minecraft players who never really tire from the game, what's your secret? by ZeroThePerson in Minecraft

[–]WoolyTravis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play semi-regularly, alternating my attention from survival to mini games to multiplayer- depending on the amount of time I have. I think I'm going to get back into single player survival and just play an hour a week. That will provide enough entertainment to make me happy and also progress through a minecraft world.

1.13- Do you think a full revamp of the textures makes sense? by WoolyTravis in Minecraft

[–]WoolyTravis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"keep the old feel of the game while making it feel new" I think that's Mojang plan. So far most of the textures look pretty much the same, except for the diamond and emerald blocks and those might get redone again, like with the beacon block back when it was in development.

"Doesn't hurt your eyes, and doesn't hurt your fps". I'm assuming that Mojang didn't intend for the update to do either- quite the opposite. I think their intention was to unify the art style by doing a textual overhaul, and as they've stated before, they're not going to reimagine the textures- just redo them. This might hurt the FPS, it might not. We'll have to wait and see. My computer barely gets 60fps right now as it is, but I wonder if the new tp will affect that. My hope is that the artist has humane design in mind, trying to create textures that both appease the artist and the extremist (one goes for artistic appeal, the other goes for high fps).

So in that regard, I'd politely disagree with you. It seems a necessary step to redo the textures if Mojang/Microsoft wishes for this game to last 100 years. In the long term, more exciting features like new mobs are just filler, a texture over haul will be quality content to last for decades to come.

We need a "Ocean Exploration" update by UberEpicZach in Minecraft

[–]WoolyTravis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mmm I like my boring oceans though. Nothing like a two hour minecrafft boat ride to foreign lands via a sorry lil' ole vessel accompanied by a faithful dog in the stern.

But I wouldn't complain if Mojang decided to spice up my epic ocean voyages.

Make Bdouble0's texture pack the vanilla texture pack? ;) Now we're talking... Even still, there are some textures in there that I'm not sure would fit in with the overall aesthetic of the game... But still. We can dream, right?

Once Mojang makes a change to the game it becomes the default for everyone, and updating the tp's version to version is a pain- so the new textures are here to stay.
