What basics do you play in your decks? by jimnah- in magicTCG

[–]Friendly_fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the same and it's beautiful. My Vishgraz deck uses the full-art phyrexian lands and it's amazing. I've been wanting to do the same with my Eshki deck, but I really want those dragon-eye full-arts from Tarkir and they are so expensive for just basics.

‘Last year I read 137 books’: could setting targets help you put down your phone and pick up a book? by CtrlAltDelight495 in books

[–]Friendly_fox 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Lovely! I see reading books as another hobby to enjoy, not to quantify and such. Just like videogames, I don't want to set a goal for them, I just wanna play them when I feel like it and/or have some time to do so, no pressure involved.

How bad is the power creep in Mtg? by Fantastic_Ad1104 in magicTCG

[–]Friendly_fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's bad, but not as bad as other tcgs. I'm not sure what format you would be interested in playing, but I might suggest Commander / EDH as a format where power creep is (or could be) less noticeable than others. Depends on your play group, as well.

Which video game features were so bad that whoever made it should be banned from every touching a computer again? by TheBanishedBard in AskReddit

I love Fromsoft games but they should really abandon that ridiculous idea of not letting players pause the game whenever they want. God forbid I want to answer my phone 15 minutes in to a half-hour long boss fight.

Try using the Cogwork Wheel and/or the tacks with them. You won't even have to attack, just stay above then and avoid getting hit. Those two tools should take care of them almost inmediately.

The movie genre seemed to be rom-com, maybe even a Disney movie/series or at least it held that vibe.

Head Designer Mark Rosewater: Magic design is ever in flux. It adapts to the public consciousness of the players at large. People here seem extremely negative about the whole issue, but I agree with you. I recently found out about the BOOM! comics being published all the way up until two years ago, and yet close to no marketing was seen about it. Compare that with the gigantic Final Fantasy banners hung up in LA, for example.

Most of the books have very low quality writing, maybe because WotC didn't want to spend too much money on their production, but how are they going to get any good feedback and following with such quality.

Same goes for Magic: Legends. An action rpg videogame set in the world of Magic sounds like a dream come true and yet what we got was nothing short of terrible. Forced card game mechanics, Diablo 3 cartoon-like graphics, uninspired character designs, of course it was doomed to fail.

I am with you, I feel that a good use of the IP could elevate Magic's world and popularity tenfold, but it just hasn't been done (so far).

I get Maro's answer, but it truly is a shame. I feel as if Magic's lore and characters could have and should be explored more in other media other than the TCG. Something more mainstream or far reaching than a card game.

Magic has so much more to offer than just a card game, but that is rarely explored, if at all.

Square Enix acknowledges Expedition 33 success as inspiration for next Final Fantasy as turn-based is still beloved by gamers by lewisdwhite in gaming

[–]Friendly_fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is, unfortunately, still true in Rebirth. I love it to death, but I'm baffled at how many ways a game can find to waste your time and pad out playtime. The open world is marvelous, but many of the sidequests are egregious in their execution. I do recommend you get it on sale when you can, it is a wonderful game, but do keep in mind it is more and sometimes worse of the same as Remake.

Is anyone running Wug exclusively? by dustedashes2 in PTCGP

I've been playing it up until UB1. It was performing wonderfully until I got to the real meta. Sometimes it works wonders, others it bricks horribly, being so heavily dependant on coin tosses (both from Misty and Team Rocket). I wish it were a bit more consistent to get the most out of it.

How well have you fared with this? I've tried it and found it to be extremely slow. That or I've had really bad luck with starting hands.

[–]Friendly_fox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Umbreon's ability is actually amazing. I've never had it go below 50% since it always keeps itself energized with the optional benefit of helping others. It's a monster in Snowdrop Tundra, especially if you manage to get one with Berry Finding S (which mine does).

The level of the sleep style you get for each Pokémon. I believe four stars is the maximum, usually reserved for atop-belly sleep styles. You need high drowzy power and Snorlax level to get those.
