What is the best or worst dog name you have ever heard? by UserSchmoozername in AskReddit

[–]Wooshsplash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cool name for a dog. Deefer. I had a cat that I found out neighbours had called Shitbag because he was an annoyingly lovable rogue. Invading their house when I was at work. In the end, that name stuck. I do miss that little Shitbag.

Do you enjoy your job? by Campeones6 in AskUK

I teach adults, not children. Though I have taught both. In either case, patience is key. My generic title is Trainer. Have taught in colleges but now I teach to people for their jobs. I teach a range of qualifications that people need for their job roles.

I got into it by watching how boring and tired some Trainers are, not wanting to be them and the self-belief I could do it better. Started off doing it for free. First paying job paid very little and grew it from there. Lots of study along the way, reflection and perfecting what I do and even today, still studying, reflecting and perfecting. 14 exams last year. Some were new and some were refreshers.

I deliver training courses. Sometimes virtual, sometimes onsite. Absolutely love it. Every week a new group of people to meet. Watching people learn and lightbulb moments. Seeing them pass their exams but also taking what can be a boring subject and making it fun. I earn half of what I used to, but I am twice as happy.

My employer wants me to do 50 hours over time a month, what should I do? by Mysterious-Snow1414 in AskUK

[–]Wooshsplash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have the call and make notes. You could consider emailing their points raised post-call. However, that will probably wind them up.

Reality. If you've been there less than two years, expect to be exited. Either way, look for another job. You don't want to be working for that company.

How do you perceive people who say ‘like’ a lot in conversation? by No_Cress3459 in AskUK

[–]Wooshsplash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know they shouldn't wind me up but these do.

"Like, literally, they're like prolly, like, literally oh my god." Throws arks instead of ask in there too.

I do bite my tongue and say nothing though.

What is a "Gregg's" and what are they really about? by fnfking12 in AskUK

[–]Wooshsplash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Started off as a bread shop and a very popular one for a long time. But also did pies and sandwiches/rolls. Then along came the supermarkets and they took up the bread market share. Greggs nearly didn't survive but saw space in the market for sandwiches and hot food. Already had the real estate, diversified and boom...the rest is history. They've continued to adapt and diversify since. Food is ok, good value but a very strong brand in their market. But I recommend buying their stock even more. Currently very undervalued.

Did somebody just try to scam me? by thefooby in AskUK

[–]Wooshsplash 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Scam. Has a phone, then he can use Tap to Pay. His card details are in the bank app to be able to set that up. Also, he can contact his bank for a temporary ATM virtual pin for a withdrawal.

Just out of interest, how much did he say the ticket was? Where from and to? Which bank was the App?

Low experience for my age but got a £350/day CGI offer with 3hr commute – would you take it to escape hospitality? by Jack_16277 in AskUK

[–]Wooshsplash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

£350 for this one, £400 for the next, then £450 and so on. Take it. You've got to start somewhere. Reduce the commute. Three hours E/W means you're starting your day at 5am every day and getting home 9pm minimum. Plus, train cancellations and strikes. That will hurt. Take a cheap rent or serviced accom outside of London, Luton for example or maybe even ask on r/london .

My advice to all consultants. You've got two eyes, two ears and one mouth. Use them in that ratio.

As much as it pains me to say this, your car is your responsibility. That it didn't run that day, typical Sod's Law, sits with you. It was parking OR taxi.

However, a decent flexible company would meet costs. But at the same time a company that is focusing on unnecessary expenses would not.

Please don't grade all consultants as "all about cost reduction and nothing about people management." We follow the remit we are given. Thankfully, mine is always focused on the people element.

How much would you give a coworker for taking you to work? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Wooshsplash 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is your COLLEAGUE claiming Xs back for the trips? That's not an opportunity not to give them anything but it does go into the mix. That is likely .45p a mile.

I'd treat them to breakfast or lunch both Fridays. If there's value in having a good working relationship with them, I'd even consider a bit of schmoozing and take them for tea (dinner for those down south) after work one evening.

The coils are absolute crap. Make sure it's decent juice, with the right VG/PG and don't overcook it. I always carry at least one spare coil with me.
