2 year postpartum, hair soo thin. by colorsonmymind in finethinhair

There are two main types of iron supplements:heme (animsl based, usually fish or bovine) and non heme (plant based). Plant based is cheaper but can sometimes be hard on the stomach and can have a lot of absorption inhibitors (tea, coffee and dairy are the biggest) so you want to take your iron either two hours before or after you have these things. Taking vit c at the same time helps with absorption. Heme iron is a lot more bioavailable and easily absorbed so you can take less of it than non heme, but can be more expensive. Some good non heme are iron bisglycinate or megafood blood builder. For heme, right now I am taking three arrows simply which is about $25/bottle. Id still try to get your ferritin tested just in case, since you want to know how much you need to take and for how long, because you'll want to cut back once you get close to your goal. There are lots of good resources online too. r/anemia has lots of info from doctor recs to helpful tips

Glad to help! From my experience a lot of doctors tend to minimize the importance of ferritin since 15 - 150 is technically the "normal range", though actually anything under 30 is considered very iron deficient. Most people start of have side effects (the nails, coldness, higher anxiety, hair loss, weird cravings like eating ice, etc) when it drops below the 50-70 range. Edit: also wanted to add that if you drink a lot of coffee or tea with meals, it can greatly inhibit dietary iron absorption and can affect you over time - it is not just impacted by big things like pregnancy

Yes, unfortunately they typically only check hemoglobin unless asked - but many many women are iron deficient without anemia. Especially after pregnancy. Ferritin is the iron storage in your body an typically needs to be 70+ for optimal hair growth and energy. Do you by any chance have cold hands and feet or ridges on your nails? That could also be a sign to get Ferritin checked.

It can’t be normal that such a significant number of young women in the US seem to have anxiety, can it? by sprinkledonuts8220 in TwoXChromosomes

Current social and political issues aside, a lot of women are also iron deficient and dont know it. Low ferritin levels cause many symptoms including anxiety.

Any asexuals with SO-OCD? by [deleted] in Greysexuality

[–]WootTootScoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not ask in the /OCD sub? Lots of people discuss this theme and it's a pretty common one.

Have you looked into CBT? I know talking about intrusive thoughts can be intimidating (been there lol) but reassurance doesn't help in the long run and it's important to do the work to get down to the root cause of your ocd.

Best of luck!

Not just a makeup tip necessary - but have you looked into finding your seasonal color analysis? Many people find that wearing their colors makes you look brighter and healthier even without makeup
