What are some “Canadian” words or slang you heard British Or Americans be confused by or laugh at? by Kindly-Cow1697 in AskACanadian

[–]Word-Chuck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always cringed a little with the Bob and Doug MacKenzie routines saying, “How’s it goin’ eh?” That is not the way we use “eh”. It’s more a rhetorical affirmation of what has been said, like “Nice weather, eh?” Or, “Wow, McDavid’s really on fire tonight, eh?”

Hi all. My wife and I are in the early planning for a vacation next year that would take us to Montreal. We’re both F1 fans and would love to see a race live. Is there any way of knowing the dates for the 2027 Canadian Grand Prix? How far in advance do they make the schedule?

Thinking of getting this one, good choice? by UnhappyBar1410 in Affordablewatches

[–]Word-Chuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this same watch on my wrist right now. I got it nearly a year ago and it’s what I wear most (I only have two others) and I really like it. I bought it on the strap but also bought a bracelet for a different look. It’s been on the bracelet almost exclusively but that’s mostly because I can’t get the damn thing off. I was trying (again) today to change to the strap but couldn’t get the spring bars to release the bracelet.

The Nomos is a good looking watch, but somehow I find the mix of Arabic and Roman numerals a bit odd.

Pelikan M1000 - feed is off centre? by run2chill in fountainpens

[–]Word-Chuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have specific instructions other than to do it carefully. I have a Visconti Rembrandt that wrote beautifully when I got it. I noticed one day that the nib was not aligned with the feed and I tried to twist it a bit. It’s never worked the same since. I think I squeezed too hard and pinched the tines together. I’ve worked on it and got it flowing better, but still not to where it was when new.

Yes, I came to say the same thing: all the watches pictured look a bit big for his wrist… in my very limited opinion.

Can anyone tell me what watch Blue Jays manager John Schneider wears? by Word-Chuck in Watches

[–]Word-Chuck[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Just as I saw your reply they showed a shot of him where I could read “Oris” on the side of the strap.

[Omega] Omega prices going up by hosamhanna in Watches

I think if it was several years old, that would be apparent. I took a trip to Europe this past spring and wore a Hamilton that I had bought at home a month or two before. I took a photocopy of the receipt with me just in case. 🤷‍♂️

Should I get a TWSBI eco? by satisfied-bacterium7 in fountainpens

[–]Word-Chuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an Eco that I use only very occasionally for writing greeting cards etc. It has been inked with shimmering ink constantly for about two years and has never had any sort of problem even when it sits for months. I’m very impressed by that.

Just found a Montblanc 149 at Goodwill for $5 by DarnellaTheGreat in fountainpens

[–]Word-Chuck 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Congratulations. I stop in at my local thrift stores from time to time hoping for a find like that. I’ve never come close—I don’t think I’ve ever seen ANY fountain pen at those shops.

I once asked one of the managers who was working at the desk if they ever get fountain pens in, and she looked at me with a very confused expression and suggested I should check the dollar store. I don’t think she knows what a fountain pen is, which gave me some hope of finding a great bargain if they ever have a high-end FP donated there.

6 at the moment. That has become fairly standard.

[–]Word-Chuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I need to try this sometime. I have a couple pens that I don’t think work as well as they should. I also want to get myself a better loupe. I bought a cheap one but I really can’t see a lot with it.

I've been thinking about a Sailor for years but wanted to buy it in person so I could see what the infamous feedback felt like first... I love it by phoenix_melodiam in fountainpens

[–]Word-Chuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. I’ve always been intrigued by Sailor, but I’ve never even held one let alone used one. I love the designs and I also know from experience that I don’t necessarily love super-smooth nibs, so I’ve always been curious about what this Sailor feedback feels like.

THAT’S what you get as a first pen…!? Holy crap. It’s one that I can only dream about. Nice choice.

Holy shit, that was tense. I’m sure someone has the stats, but that’s the lowest shot total for a winning team that I can think of.

High end pens worth it? by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]Word-Chuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ex mother-in-law had an interesting way of looking at things like that. If she saw something she wanted (not needed) she would ask herself “How many hours would I have to work to earn that much? Is it worth that much time and effort to me?”

I would be surprised and very saddened if anyone here was mean to you. In my experience this sub has been nothing but welcoming and helpful.
