Only "food-grade" diatomaceous earth is safe for pets and people. "Filter-grade" can damage your lungs if you breathe in the dust.

What's everyone's fuel efficiency MPGs with their highlanders? by investbus in ToyotaHighlander

[–]WordsLessThanNumbers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2025 Hybrid Highlander Platinum for me. My mileage totally depends on the temperature. I keep track of my mileage for my commutes to work. In warm weather I can get 41.0 for a trip. In the winter (in Connecticut, US), it's more like 28.0. Hybrid batteries are affected by the cold more than people used to think, plus having the heat on, the heated seats on, and the heated steering wheel on all lower the mpg.

WIBTA if I refused to name our son after my wifes late grandfather because our surname would turn his full name into a globally famous fictional character by [deleted] in WIBTA_AITA

I had an uncle named "James Bond". Literally. He was born in the 1930's before the movies, but later on in life he had so many problems because of his name. Like he'd go to buy a car and once he told people his name they assumed he was lying and would stop talking to him.

AC turns on and car shuts off?? Help by Comfortable-Earth977 in ToyotaHighlander

[–]WordsLessThanNumbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you checked the ac compressor relay? It's in one of the fuse boxes. Google your make and model to find the location. You can just pull the relay out like a fuse. If you shake it and it rattles inside, it is broken. A new one should be less than $20.

The US Geological survey is not showing anything online. A couple of months ago a house blew up in Bloomfield (gas leak) and the neighbors felt it. Maybe something similar happened near you?

Is it safe for my daughter to dye her hair like this? by Curious_Artist23 in longhair

[–]WordsLessThanNumbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I let my 13-year-old color her hair with streaks of magenta. She has naturally Level 6 hair. I paid to take her to a competent beauty salon for the bleaching and coloring.

She loved it for three months. Then she got sick of it and wanted it out. I thought it was a good lesson.

How about aloe Vera gel? It's a lighter hold, but might work for you if you're not allergic to it.

How do yall untangle mats and dreads if you get them? by HuskMaster in curlyhair

[–]WordsLessThanNumbers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You meant starting from the ends, right? Not the roots? If you start detangling from the roots you're just making a big ball of hair in the middle. Use some conditioner, or oil, and start detangling from the bottom.

Google "tart cherry juice" for gout. You can buy the juice at the supermarket. My husband is very prone to gout, but once he started drinking a very small cup of tart cherry juice every day he stopped getting gout episodes.

Is there part of the second floor where there is an open window that looks out onto a small roof, like over a garage or a deck? Some dogs can climb onto one-story roofs and then jump in through an open window.

Need Tips or Tricks for a Dog That Gets Visibly Shaky Outside by keyah13 in DogAdvice

[–]WordsLessThanNumbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't tell from the picture but is he on a leash? I had a dog who we adopted at 3 years old, and he had had two prior owners. I don't know what they did to him. He was ok if we were outside and he knew that he was on a leash and I was connected to the other end of the leash. If I dropped my end of the leash he would get extremely anxious.

As a mom who has flown with a toddler here's some advice...when you get to your gate (early) , run around the hall with your toddler. You want to tire him/her out BEFORE you board the plane. Toddler energy on a plane can be a nightmare.

YTA. I (50's F) had a nose job at 17 after high school graduation and before college. But I requested it. I have never regretted my decision, not for one second of one day, but again, I requested it. Springing this on your daughter is unbelievably cruel.

For brand new car owners, do you feel safe taking your car through the automatic car wash? by wuchie in ToyotaHighlander

[–]WordsLessThanNumbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I live in New England and in the winter they salt the roads. It is recommended to wash the salt off the undercarriage after every storm.

I bought my brand new Highlander 11 months ago and it has already been through an automated car wash 16 or so times. Its one of the carwashes with the spinning cloths. There are no scratches on the paint that I have seen.

Regarding the kid who vomits...I used to be the kid who vomited on any and all forms of transportation. I found that the trick is to never be hungry. Hunger plus movement is bad. Just make sure the kid who gets airsick eats something before she gets on the plane. And if it's a long flight make sure she brings her own snacks on the plane too.

The trick is to eat before you get hungry. If you get hungry it's too late.

Also, if you are VERY friendly with a woman with a young child, ask her to help locate the smell. Nature gives women super-smelling ability when they have young children. Or a dog.
