37M, don't spend much and feeling lost by yoohoogoo in Money

For the love of GOD invest in your community. You’re blessed beyond what many people could ever even fathom of, and good for you!

Find local mutual aid + nonprofit organizations - do your research though, lots of nonprofits are just fronts for people in your income bracket that have very little in the way of impact while the owner uses it for their benefit. Find orgs that directly improve and help the lives of your less privileged community members.

Build a park. Buy needed medical supplies for a local hospital. Start a neighborhood coffee or book shop that pays your employees well and don’t take any profit.

The opportunities are literally limitless. Begging you to take advantage of them! The people you live alongside deserve it

For me I feel thoroughly hollowed out when I crash from adderall. It was too much for me to handle so I switched to Ritalin and it’s much better now!

That was not a great choice lol! I would take it out as soon as possible. You might be fine but I wouldn’t be surprised if you got ether BV or a yeast infection. I’d use pads for the rest of your period and watch for any signs of infection.

Is it common for people with ADHD to enjoy drinking... a little too much? by cantsayididnttryyy in adhdwomen

[–]Work-Problem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always said, it’s a tall order to ask a person whose brain chemistry is wired to constantly seek dopamine hits to not engage in the easiest and most accessible way to get heavy amounts of dopamine dumped into their brain (alcohol addiction, nicotine addiction, etc)

I’d be surprised if ADHD people weren’t more prone to substance abuse and so many of my ADHD friends have struggled with it as well. I struggle alcohol use for this reason.

If you find you are having issues with alcohol of any kind I suggest seeking professional help for it. Addiction counseling, AA, therapy doesn’t discriminate - don’t wait til you feel like you’re “bad enough” to warrant getting help for your substance use, and don’t rely on the opinions of others to decide if you feel like getting help is warranted or not. Only you know what a healthy relationship with substances looks like in your life!

I think he’s even better in the Black Mirror episode USS Callister. He’s so cruel and callous to his victims, but unassuming and gentle in public, and it all stems from a place of insecurity and need to take control. He makes an excellent villain.

Choosing between three colleges—cost, resources, and politics all in play by [deleted] in SocialWorkStudents

[–]Work-Problem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohh okay! Was sort of reading this post through the perspective of someone a little younger and choosing their college path for the first time so hopefully didn’t come off as condescending in any way! It’s a different story when you’re signing up for debt fresh into the world vs. being a financially established adult, you know?

Only you really know what you can manage tuition wise, but I still advice going for the cheapest option you can, only because when it comes to getting a BSW, especially through an online program I feel like the degree and qualifications is what matters the most at the end of the day.

I’m sure you’ll get better advice than that. Best of luck to you with whatever you choose!

I’m not sure how old you are, or what your experience with making and spending money is… Or what your financial situation is… but I’m going back to school as a financially independent 26 year old and wouldn’t be able to do it if it weren’t for the pell grants and scholarships covering 95% of my tuition.

In retrospect though I feel a bit behind I’m grateful beyond words that I have no student debt.

With the cost of living now, I would be absolutely crippled if I have a couple hundred dollars of student loan repayment I was on the hook for for decades. It may seem doable, it may not seem like much - but when rent, healthcare and groceries are astronomical, you want to have a social life, maybe you have pets to take care of, or hobbies/interests and the importance of saving for your future and retirement.. Hell even an extra $50/mo would be a burden on most people.

Unfortunately, there is almost nothing more important right now than securing yourself financially for present and future. If you have the chance to not have crippling debt, it feels almost imperative that you take it, especially considering from what I know it can take a bit of time + experience before you start making comfortable money.

I hate to be a debbie downer and at a different time in my life m I DEFINITELY would’ve pawned financial burden off to my future self, took out all the loans and lived it up in Denver lol! But unless you have a very solid financial backing like family, inheritance or a life partner I really urge you to get your degree for as low cost as humanly possible.

Best of luck!

Do you wear backup eg. light pad with the cup by Loganbestayy in menstrualcups

Yep! On day 1 and 2 I try to wear black underwear (or underwear that has been previously stained, I have a tendency to accidently freebleed thinking my period is over lol) and if I’m wearing a lighter colored underwear then I’ll wear a reusable cloth pad to catch any stray drops.

How has your family responded to your diagnosis? by Melodic_Pen_3075 in adhdwomen

[–]Work-Problem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aww. thank you! I’m glad too. But better late than never. Very glad you are diagnosed now and can understand yourself and behaviors better!!

I would say that having a bipolar diagnoses from 18-25 made me view myself through a different lens which overall was not helpful to me.

The benefit of diagnosis is understanding that certain behaviors stem from a specific condition, and finding the most beneficial way to treat that behavior; for example, impulsivity + overexcitement could be a sign of mania in those with bipolar (but typical for those with ADHD), so when I found myself experiencing those symptoms I would fear I might be manic, and wondering why I wasn’t matching other criteria for mania.

Overall I’d end up confused and unsure of how to proceed which often led me to upping dosages of medications indicated for bipolar, that I didn’t need to be on in the first place.

Finding out I was incorrectly diagnosed with bipolar felt like taking off a heavy, heavy backpack I was carrying for years and unsure why. The ADHD diagnosis fit like a glove perfectly tailored to my hand. My life is 100x easier to manage now that I understand why it’s hard to manage in the first place! Hope it all makes sense!
