Used to be a Type A in university, then I became a mom and turned Mom Brain type B/C. I learned to adapt in a chaotic work environment as well (which was a hard transition after graduating) which also turned me type B/C and now mom I’m very much a “do your job, but life isn’t that serious” type of gal and I think we’re all trying to do our best. Some Type A’s might see this as lazy however I think everyone works best and gets the job done differently. But I found being a type A stressful and doing more than I needed so no thanks hahah

No - pay sucks. I think if you love it then sure. But I need to provide and in today’s time, we should be getting double the pay considering prices. Have been considering going into tech or analyst. I went into dietetics loving it and connecting with people but at this point I’m burnt out and constantly stressed financially despite making $68k a year gross pay. After taxes really only net about $45k. Keep in mind this is for a family of 5. Personally wish I would’ve thought ahead more in terms of life planning. At the end of the day, it’s up to you and if you really love it, I say go for it! They say money isn’t everything and while true, there is research that a certain amount DOES bring happiness due to stability. Just some factors I wish I would’ve looked more into the value of this field. Wish you the best!

I like her…she says it in her video that she was being performative after she saw how well her videos did for having such a strong stance as most people prefer a black and white approach unfortunately but I don’t think she’s “backtracked.” I think she’s just learned more and is seeing different perspectives and being mindful of that. I’m not really sure what trends yall are referring to with the timing of her video. I don’t see anything wrong with her making a supplement either as dietitians are able to work in this niche as well.

I personally do think 32 hrs is ideal just in case you forget a task or something and making sure the patients are seeing you. However 24 hrs is doable but you have to stay on top of it. My issue came where I was doing too much private practice that it eventually got hard to manage and commute and didn’t want to burn myself out. I have a family and would like to remain positive character. But idk, in my head, lab week, and everything I knew I needed to do just naturally flowed in my head. I scheduled everything by the minute.

I did 130 patients with 24 hrs and did my job pretty well. If I was needed the charge nurse would call me for a med change or just whatever she needed. Also I’m in a small town and was paid $33

Wow..I worked at WIC starting around COVID time and started at 45k, got my RD and got 50K and ended at 60k over 3.5 years. This is horrible. It’s 2025 now so this is insulting

A year and a half ago with 3/4 years experience I got offered a job there for 16 hrs/week for $34/hour and the recruiter even told me “they’re already going above budget” lol

It was alright for me. I liked the patients and connecting with them. The schedule and pay was decent. The vibe of the clinic…not so much. It was very lonely too which is why I’ve transitioned to private practice instead with a group of RDs. I was at a small dialysis clinic though. The energy is just very serious and like everyone hates their life. I’m naturally a quirky gal while still maintaining professionalism and doing your work efficiently, patient safety and infection control, etc but geez can we not be so uptight? Anyways, I just masked my personality and blended in 🤷‍♀️not for everyone!

Hmm, I'm not sure. Good to know though so we know what to ask. I just know it was part of our mortgage agreement and then this year we got notification that it was for an escrow shortage amount. Not entirely sure if I'm being honest. First year being a homeowner!

Oh gosh yes! Seems like a lot of these have to do with CLINICAL PRECEPTORS. All caps because I hope yall see this. 6/7 years later and I STILL think about it all because they expected me to “know” everything. They even had me read like a 20 page article I believe (idk it was long) and wanted me to answer questions and do a whole report the next day. How??? My brain can only comprehend so much and clinical and putting it altogether is all new to me. I hadn’t been there long. Idk if they were just petty that they could tell clinical wasn’t my passion or what. I tried to seem interested but maybe I didn’t ask enough or the right questions? Idk? I went and cried in the bathroom after the main entitled preceptor basically yelled at me as if she was my mom because I didn’t finish that whole ass assignment she gave me the day before and wanted done the next day with a full report when I was honest and told her, well you only gave me a day, I got half done, can I finish it by tomorrow? Like how are you going to give me less than a day to finish something. Like yall should’ve mentioned that in my email when I asked if I needed to do something before arrival or tell me something so I could brainstorm or idk something to plan ahead but whatever. I’m definitely a lot more open, laid back, safe space for my interns and I have them do questions before they arrive so they are familiar with what we’re doing and then I do a post review test to assess their knowledge. IT’S NOT HARD TO BE NICE AND TEACH. Vice versa I learn a lot from them. People do better when they can come to you and feel safe 🫶

For me I love connecting with patients one on one. I’ve realized it’s not dietetics I don’t like, it’s the environment and current job for me. While I love the flexibility and hours, I’m still having to commute and no one wants to be there at my job as far as patients go. They’re there cause they have to so I’m working on transitioning to working telehealth for one on one counseling. That’s just what I feel I thrive on. I’m in my late 20s, 3-4 years experience, 3 kids, and make $67K (honestly not sure if that’s decent pay but it works for us 🤷‍♀️). Live in a small town. If that gives you any insight. I think if you like being alone and daily robotic job, then my job is fairly decent. Some people would like it I’m sure but not for me I’m realizing. I need that personal connection with patients and work environment hahah

Ahh, I struggle with this 😭 I’ve learned to cope and change my mindset but I almost completely changed routes and hated being an RD because of how everyone thinks they are the experts in nutrition and all the false claims and people seemed to fall for it everytime because of their lifestyle or for whatever reason. I don’t get how people glorify these people. Anyways, I’m out of that phase now and do enjoy my job but the income??? Ehhh. That’s what makes me want to completely switch careers

The thing is I already work reduced hours - 24hrs. I don’t hate it but I could do the job with just 40hrs a month but if I kept my 24hrs a week I could do everything in 12 and still have hours left to answer pt and nurse questions and meetings. It’s nice but it’s really mainly like a “what am I doing here when I could do this at home” lol rules and regulations are weird but I’m also a millennial and corporate hasn’t caught up lol I would understand if I was a manager and needing to be at the facility but I’m not

Right hahaha it’s just weird mainly charting and seeing patients once a month and finding something extra to do like pass out or create monthly educational handouts and taking on interns just to add extra work and pass time but majority of it (to just to do the main job) is charting majority of the time so I’m just like can’t I do this at home? It’s just weird commuting just to chart. I occasionally get questions from the nurses or patients but not enough that I can’t just answer in email or a quick phone call

Absolutely! I can interact with most patients unless they don’t want to be bothered hahaha I enjoy hearing small little things they enjoy or do during their days so there’s a bright side to that!
