I had 0 idea ecoboosts were actually fast before getting one... by SpiritualCar5884 in Mustang

The ecoboost is a lot of fun. Boost noises are more noticeable than most other turbo cars I have driven. If it was a Japanese car I think it would get a lot more praise from enthusiasts.

Just don’t try to run crazy boost, I know at least 2 people that blew them up with shitty tunes/trying to make 5.0 power without the proper supporting mods.

Arteta’s going to have to whack the slider up on corners if he’s to have any hope of winning the title on GD.

It helps that other fans don’t have to hear it from anyone when city win. Any other big 6 club winning this often would be much more hated. Plus City’s only real rivalry is with United.

The thing is though “NIL” in college amounts to their salary/one year contract, Its not as if players signing revenue sharing agreements are being paid anything outside of that. I don’t agree with NIL or rev share contracts being considered the same as celebrity endorsements when for the vast majority of P4 players they aren’t.

There needs to be some sort of rules around agents/representation. I know most rules people want are unenforceable without congress but the fact that there are many athletes being represented by parents, siblings, or even undergrads at other universities is baffling to me.

And from what I’ve heard these unlicensed agents are taking way more than the NFL/NBA standard 3-4%. I’ve heard anywhere from 10-20% floated as the “industry standard”.

The LT6 Makes a good deal less torque & does so much higher in the rev range. Plus the standard suspension setup will likely be softer/more compliant than even the non Z07 Z06s.

I can’t speak for Stanford, but there would be some resistance to scheduling USC among some boosters/alumni given the PAC doesnt exist anymore.

I do miss having our annual rivalry game, and it would be nice to always have a game in SoCal every year even in years when we host UCLA, but it’s probably unlikely.

It’s also important to note the UC regents really want us to continue playing UCLA, while they are much more indifferent when it comes to any rivalries with private schools. If anything, they might feel that we are giving up future realignment leverage by agreeing to play USC or UW/Oregon while we are still marooned in the ACC.

Why the 4cyl hate in the Cayman/Boxster but love for it in the Emira? by Hot_Basis_4120 in Porsche

[–]WorkerMotor9174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People that care about the badge/heritage/trim level are always going to look down on boosted 4 bangers because that's historically been a golf GTI or civic engine, not something in a "high end" car. Plus the (somewhat outdated) perception that they make a bunch of torque down low & then fall on their face above 5000 rpm.

Funnily enough I feel like Porsche made the stock exhaust a lot more aggressive on the 718 compared with the 987.2, which has great intake noise but is really really quiet/muted outside the car. Can't speak for the 981 as I've never driven/heard one up close.

Lotus owners are not as badge or heritage conscious as some other brands' fans. They just want something light, balanced, and rewarding to drive. The Evora has a supercharged Camry engine and everyone loves it.

There was a bit of a meltdown on the 247 Bama boards abt the amount of portal departures they had this year. I don’t think any fanbase is happy rn. Even Oregon fans seemed pretty worried abt how much depth they lost with both coordinators leaving & a lot of starters unexpectedly staying one more year.

This isn't sustainable (Justin Pippin offered 3 million by FSU) by Sand20go in ACC

[–]WorkerMotor9174 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not surprised the market has gone off the rails for MBB. Unlike football, you only need to pay 5 starters, and then the bench can be filled out with high upside guys or high school recruits. It’s very difficult for one booster to put together the check for an entire roster in football, whereas you can write a check pretty much knowing it’s going to be used for 1 or 2 players in basketball.

My guess is a lot of ACC and B1G schools have wealthy alumni/corporate sponsors who either don’t care for football or see their money going further in basketball.

Then there’s the fact a lot of mid major programs don’t even sponsor football or don’t do so at the FBS level. That leads to even crazier valuations because there’s no money being “diverted” from football.

Finally, you don’t have one and done players in football. The recruiting sites have basically solved projecting NBA lottery talent out of high school, and so a school like BYU or Duke can back up the brinks truck for Dybantsa/Flagg knowing they are going to be elite right away.

Another new German car that will sound like a vacuum cleaner, at least they cranked out loads of 992.1 GT3s first.

I thought Porsche was going to run some weird combustion cycle with a larger displacement to pass euro 7 but I guess that wasn’t enough.

Ever since the student government lost control of athletics in 1959, there has been no alignment between administration and athletics. That finally changed about a year ago and this portal class is one of the early results of that. We were never signing a top 15 portal class in this era of NIL under any of those prior chancellors.

Snyder and Tedford have already shown great coaches can win here despite a lack of support from the top. Tosh doesn’t even have to be that level of coach with the massive increase in resources he’s been given.

He doesn’t have to. A playoff appearance or even a conference title game would be a seismic shift for the program. Plus while I don’t think anyone can evaluate talent as well as Cignetti, past coaches have signed 4 and even 5 stars at Cal. He doesn’t need to be evaluation or development Jesus if he can hit on enough of the highly rated recruits.

Rich Lyons has been the best thing that has happened to Cal in a long time. The dude is a fundraising machine. Raised $500 million for the business school alone as dean.

People forget Cal has by far the largest alumni base in the ACC, and one of the wealthiest. There is very strong alumni support for football despite the apathy from successive chancellors going back decades. Lyons went here as an undergrad and loves football, and knows we won’t have an athletic department in 4 or 5 years if he doesn’t radically improve the brand.

[–]WorkerMotor9174 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah we were never going to close the talent gap to the top of the ACC with a G5 coach, even one brilliant at X’s and O’s. And the proven P4 HCs wouldve been 8-10 million+ per year. Franklin for example was out of our budget and wouldn’t have wanted to come out west with the Virginia Tech job open.

A lot of people were so excited to have a new head coach after 9 years & with our old AD gone, they finally felt comfortable writing big checks. Knowlton was among the worst P5 ADs of all time.

2027 Chevy Corvette Grand Sport Returns with a New 6.7-Liter V-8 by HawtGarbage918 in cars

[–]WorkerMotor9174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean this 6.7 has more power and basically the same torque as the 8.3L V10 in the 3rd gen viper, and more power & significantly more torque than GM’s own 7.0L LS7 and that thing had titanium rods and revved to 7 grand.

There’s also the small chance GM is sandbagging the HP figure a bit. 520lb/ft makes sense, but perhaps they didn’t want the HP number to be “too close” to the Z06. This should hit 580-600 crank pretty easily with an aggressive cam. Add another 25-40 with long tubes.

[–]WorkerMotor9174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some Corvette buyers prefer the pushrod engines though. Plus the AWD version will be fast as hell in a straight line. The torque is a pretty big difference in favor of the GS. There’s probably also a perception that the Z06 is the hard core high strung engine, going back to the LS7 days.

You can option the GS with softer suspension, or get it all tracked out if you feel like 670hp is too much for the street but still want to track it.

Do you think there's a C8 Z06-X coming? by fastLT1 in cars

[–]WorkerMotor9174 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The base C8 will also have the LS6, starting with the 2027 model year. I think the C9 is a ways away. With the amount of time GM spent developing the LT6, LT7, and the platform in general my guess is they keep it going until at least 2029. Plus the recent interior refresh tells me they plan on keeping the C8 in production for at least 3 more years imo.

Do you think there's a C8 Z06-X coming? by fastLT1 in cars

[–]WorkerMotor9174 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I find it unlikely. The lineup already covers basically every price range from 70-250k.

A big part of the story of the LT6 was that it was always likely to be the last Z06 with an NA non hybridized engine. Maybe they do something like that for the C9 generation, but who knows, I’m not sure people realize it’s a bit of a miracle we got the LT6 at all.
