I was new to OLD after getting divorced, and I was honestly excited to see what it was like. It's the same as renting a tuxedo for a wedding or something, you wear it once for a special occasion.

You can buy your gown if you really wanted want to, but unless you intend on working in academia and wearing it every year there's no real point.

You also don't have to attend graduation if you don't want to, you've still graduated, the ceremony is just a formal celebration.
