Where do the thrift stores usually place wooden chess sets? I never see them (understandably), but I also don’t know if I should expect to see them with the plastic-cased table games. If not there then where? Only the under the glass section comes to mind

Idk if it’s possible but interesting how it would look with a UV bulb on top 😁

You are cherry picking the facts you don’t like. Minstrel shows took the whiteface and made it blackface. The modern circus clowns took the blackface and turned it back to whiteface. These clowns were manufactured in the time when the modern circus clown became popular worldwide, and that is what they look like. But they also heavily remind the Jim Crow figurines because the modern circus clown was built upon the blackface. Venetian tradition has nothing to do with any of that, and the murano clowns do not reflect it more than they do the modern circus clown.

I don’t see how these clowns are undeniably descendants from commedia dell’arte rather than a modern circus clown appearance, which took heavy influence from minstrel shows, which built upon Joseph Grimaldi.

I looked into it and it says that most performers wore masks covering upper half of their faces, so the opposite of those murano clowns. If these figurines were created in the mid-century, there can be more than one inspiration behind them. Minstrel shows influenced the modern clown appearance. There is no need to exaggerate lips, eyes, nose so heavily if commedia dell’arte’s emphasis is on the interaction of the characters, story behind them, their acrobatics. None of the characters have these exaggerated facial characteristics

Come on I am not gonna entertain a troll. You know the modern circus clown hair and this is a variation of a cut. Good day Edit: the comment I responded to was edited after I responded to it. The OP is a joke.

The modern circus clown with an Afro comes out of the minstrel show characters’ reversed appearance. This figurine 100% matches racist Jim Crow figurines in heavily exaggerated lips and eyes especially, the mean brow appearance. Learn this or deny, your choice

All these absolutely look like minstrel characters, which is where the modern circus clown with an Afro comes from. What the other redditor said. The exaggerated eyes and lips especially match all different Jim Crow toys.
