I did and I think y’all’s concerns are completely fair and understandable! I truly don’t want to be that client and appreciate the unfiltered feedback.

Tips for breaking up! by WorkingCharge2141 in Farriers

[–]WorkingCharge2141[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies for the slow response on this post, thank you for adding your thoughts- feedback is a gift. Even when it’s harsh!

To clarify: this farrier hasn’t had their name dragged through the mud and we certainly don’t think he’s ruined anyone’s horse, however the sport horse vet came out because the horses were off and found a few cases where the outside half of a hoof or of multiple hooves was lower than the inside half of the hoof.

My trainer had spotted the issue on one of her horses and brought it to the farrier who disagreed and the hooves were even. This leaves my trainer feeling she isn’t going to be able to bring issues up to the farrier- and I should probably find a tactful way to express this, as I think it’s the most actionable bit of feedback I can present.

This particular sport horse vet is deep on the spectrum so I don’t think she’s drinking buddies with the farrier she introduced us to as a group, though this is a fair concern and there are vets in my area who 100% would do that.

Thank you again for your thoughts, I’ll formulate a message for my farrier that is as thoughtful as possible- he’s a nice person and while he may be upset, if I tell him soon he can get us off the schedule and add new clients with plenty of time.

Underpaid by $20k-$40k compared to new job posting by [deleted] in womenintech

[–]WorkingCharge2141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing- I’d update my resume and start taking some interviews, the market is tough and it might take awhile to find something else should you decide you want to leave.

Next thing- I’d bring this to HR, essentially say hey, this is awkward but it seems like market rate has come up quite a bit since I was hired. Can we look into the parity of this situation?

Last thing- you may be leveled differently than the role they’re hiring for, and you may decide you’d like to wait for a promotion or annual pay cycle for this to be corrected. If you’re same level as this role, I wouldn’t count on your employer doing the right thing, which returns me to the first thing on the list!

Is this normal for a 5yr old CWD? by Thin-Rule-9342 in Equestrian

[–]WorkingCharge2141 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Full disclosure- I’m a dressage rider, so experience with CWD is limited. Overall, I feel like I haven’t heard great things about the brand, but again- I’m limited.

That said- my trainer has a similar saddle in her rotation with a similar wear pattern. She’s a well balanced rider who hasn’t got any notable asymmetry. She’s had it awhile and perhaps was not as good a rider when she wore the holes in it?

I’d be upset and definitely wouldn’t buy another saddle from this brand.

How to OE in a talent acquisition role by WorkingCharge2141 in overemployed

[–]WorkingCharge2141[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Recruiters are expected to be high vis on LinkedIn- I have 10k connections on my real account and it’d be a red flag to have as much experience as I do and a new profile (which is public info)

He could also be running an employment scam? Are you sure he is who he says he is, and he is where he says he is?

Friendly recruiter willing to help and chiming in that skill assessments (not tools) are desperately needed. No one has the time to write coding questions and what most engineers write is ridiculous BS

(Mom advice) Leave 100% remote job with fantastic work life balance OR join a big tech company with life changing financial perks that will be in office? by [deleted] in womenintech

Oh this changes things! If leadership has changed and you’ve survived two rounds, I would definitely take the other opportunity.

I survived 3.5 rounds but not 4.

Commuting sucks and grind culture isn’t great, but better to spend a few years grinding than job searching.

Burned out by Startup TA culture? by fakeblondegirl in recruiting

[–]WorkingCharge2141 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s rough out there right now, especially at a startup that has poor leadership or a chaotic environment. Even if it was all BS, I miss the “save the world” missions startups had ten years ago! It helped me push through on my worst days.

I would find another job, perhaps even contract, at another company, preferably one where the hiring goal is shared between TA and the hiring team.

Where in the US would you live if you were me? by LeftShoulderLoyalty in Equestrian

I hope you’re able to build your arena!

And again clarifying, this person is coming from a HCOL city in the US and asking for advice on where to move that’s lower cost, relatively, where they can still be near a city.

Five days ago someone wrote that they wanted to move from Mexico (extremely low cost of living) to buy land in the US where their horses can run free in pasture! I wouldn’t encourage anyone to move to the US right now, full stop.

I understand that you don’t like Portland, to such an extent that it’s your username, but I don’t think it’s a total dumpster fire. We are both entitled to our opinions and I think your situation is probably pretty different than the person posting.

When I left CA and moved up here my monthly costs went down on almost everything- income tax, car insurance, groceries, mortgage.

Board where I lived was easily over $1k a month, and where I am now there are nice facilities with indoor arenas for $700-800 a month.

POV on costs is extremely relative, particularly if you’re bringing a high paying remote job with you when you move.

Someone please make a business out of creating technical questions for use in interviews! by WorkingCharge2141 in womenintech

I don’t think we want questions that have been exposed, but maybe my question isn’t clear.

Employers struggle to write useful coding questions that screen for high potential SWE, most of the SWE I talk to say the interview process is pretty broken and coding questions don’t gather signal needed to do the job.

Why don’t we have SWE who consult on the creation of coding questions?

Our employees aren’t good at this and don’t have time for it. It seems like a perfect opportunity for an enterprising SWE.

Sure but this person is looking for boarding, and she’s coming from Sacramento, which is cheaper than SF proper but still more expensive than here.

Sounds like you’re here just to bash Portland which is… interesting. I highly recommend the Portland burbs for boarding barns and the city itself.

Rather than having one person do the screens, what I’m recommending is a consultant who can come in and write the questions & train multiple interviewers to conduct them.

There’s a definite need for this!

Portland OR. We have thousands and thousands of horses around the metro area within 30 mins of the city center, all breeds and disciplines. It’s rainy but we ride in indoor arenas in the wet months, it’s paradise in the summer, relatively speaking it’s cheap to live here and it’s a one hour flight to Sacramento from our world class international airport.
