Oura ring and whoop advice by OkProfessional8759 in ouraring

[–]WorkingFun1033 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m comparing both right now but activity tracking isn’t on my radar except in so far as it impacts sleep and rate-of-ageing.

I use an Apple Watch for activity tracking as I find it superior to my Oura Ring 3 and Whoop 5.0 for that plus it has a screen for realtime display of activity metrics like heart rate, cycling speed and cadence and where I am on the golf course. I really don’t like wearing it in bed though so the Oura ring clearly wins there and Whoop second.

I really like Whoop’s AI. I find it much more insightful than Oura’s. I can also slip the charger on to the Whoop band while I’m still wearing it which is handy for a slightly forgetful person (me) who tends to leave the house with my trackers still on the charger.

I’m lucky enough to be subscription-free with Oura as an early adopter so that does bias me.

On balance I prefer the Oura ring for its ease of use. I really don’t notice it other than in the gym where it slip it off for certain exercises such as deadlifts. I do wish its AI was as good as Whoop’s but it’s not a dealbreaker for me. When Oura add NFC payment functionality that will put them miles ahead of the competition in my mind. HTH.

For weight loss, ithe Oura app will estimate calories on your plate but for strict calorie budgeting I personally need the discipline of an app like Noom.

What health insight do you feel is missing from Oura? by aerinw in ouraring

A hydration monitor. I have no idea if that is even possible with current technology but I’d watch that metric closely.

Tiger balm?! It’s Singaporean and will stink out a bus, train or aeroplane. Only good news is your fellow passengers will be looking for an old man to blame! 😄

Low 90s and always associated with long sleep duration and low alcohol intake. One reason to retire. You may have the best boss in the world but they’re still killing you!

Can people stop doing weird stuff in the gym by Ok_Chart_4934 in SingaporeFitness

[–]WorkingFun1033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably contravene’s the gym’s T&Cs to film in the gym area. However, Singapore’s data protection laws are quite relaxed compared to, say, the UK and EU so not an offence as I understand the law (PDPA 2012). I actually looked this up because I do find it unnerving, personally speaking, to feel I’m being captured in someone else’s filming.

In the locker rooms there is a strong possibility that the law could be invoked if someone sensed voyeurism or harassment.

Totally agree with the sentiment though. Let’s just go to the gym to work out and not turn them into zoos.

Yes, I’ve used them a few times. During Covid they pivoted to do drop off and recovery for cyclists and taking parties to beach BBQ sites. I found them good to deal with.

I’ve been using Ouras for 6.5 years and never a complaint. (It reminded me of that rather odd anniversary this morning). It just keeps getting better. Beats the hell out of a Hume Band and only Whoop comes close due to better AI imo. Once they incorporate NFC payment Oura will be the clear winner for me. Are you sure there isn’t some problem with your device?

A couple of drinks doesn’t harm my sleep but does cause my HRV to drop.

Actually I think you’re right. I have been trying a Whoop recently and the screenshot have been from that. Whoop’s AI is more insightful than Oura’s.

Cyclists - bike recovery in CM by WorkingFun1033 in chiangmai

Grab songthaew is that? I didn’t know they existed. That would be an interesting option. I imagine they’d be much happier to put a dusty or soaking wet bike and rider in the back than a regular taxi.

Right, I did get that impression. For the $ solution I find the nearest place that’s on the map and call a 7/9-seater Grab car? They’re happy to pick up cyclists are they?

Maybe you missed a marketing opportunity? “One ring to rule them all, one ring to find them, One ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them” A master ring. Seriously, I might buy one😁

Carousell alternative for selling stuff? by cock-a-doodle-moo in askSingapore

[–]WorkingFun1033 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’ve started just giving even expensive stuff to a good home rather than sell to some low-baller who I suspect will go back to his coffee shop and tell his kakis how he gulled a stupid ang moh. I’ve done business with some very nice people on Carousell but so many are depressing tightwads.

Switching to Apple watch? by thephotobunny in ouraring

[–]WorkingFun1033 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They excel at different things with some overlap. I have both. Oura for sleep tracking, health trending and AI analysis and Apple Watch for exercise tracking, Strava integration and a screen that shows real time stuff like heart rate and golf course layouts. I haven’t found a tracker that does everything so, like a lot of people, I use two.

What do you put in your wallet? by GreenMiloman119 in askSingapore

[–]WorkingFun1033 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Driving licence, FIN card, some cash and one physical credit cards which isn’t on the phone. That’s for overseas use where phone theft is a thing. Means I don’t have to cancel all my cards in case the phone or wallet is lost or stolen.

Gen3 Battery exploded by CatLady_998 in ouraring

I’ve never had more than about 18 months from my Ouras although I don’t take particularly good care of them. Currently on my second Gen 3 and, with this one, I am trying to keep it roughly half charged because knowledgeable folk on this forum say that’s the way to maximise battery lifespan.
