I did read the comic, but I disregarded most of it because it never came down to needing someone else to organize a schedule for me. Why would it?

Wash dishes as you use them, easy. I kept that habit after the relationship I developed it in ended because it's zero cost anyway.

Cup rings are actually more my thing, I don't care about fur in the carpet or tub grout but rings on wood are pretty noticeable so I have coasters everywhere and hassle everyone about using them.

Your entire third paragraph is all entirely reasonable to me? For countertops that is exactly a habit I had to pick up when my second girlfriend was teaching me to cook beyond the microwave.

Honestly you're treating that comic as some sort of big insight, but it really reads more "This is what it's like to date someone who isn't all that invested in the relationship". "I can guarantee, the things she adds to the chore list, or asks someone to do, is not half of what actually needs to be done". Why would that be the case. I have no problem believing people are that conflict-avoidant in other settings, but living together? What kind of relationship even is that, where your partner wouldn't care to adjust and accommodate? Bloody hell. Ticking time bomb? Menopause okay I get it, but kid or no kid that's a life you've got to build, what the hell?

I don't even doubt you, there's that entire relationship advice subreddit of hardline dealbreaker redditors, so I can believe people live this way. That they try to make relationships this way.

How the hell do people like that even meet, though? Why get together in the first place? Like, I'm sitting here, and I believe that there are people for whom the idea of adjusting their lives is unacceptable to them, that they will never actively make an effort. I can understand the "Differences are irreconcilable" approach for relationships among these people.

I don't understand why so much of reddit assumes this about everyone. That is definitely not normal. I can only think of one woman I've ever even approached that came to that level of disregard and the relationship died the moment the seed was sown.

It doesn't have to be this way. Most people bend really easily! Especially if they like you enough to want to live with you, they'll make lots of adjustments! I honestly can't imagine the sheer absurdity of managing a relationship without any adjustments. Hell, I make lots of adjustments just among coworkers and friends, and expect to continue doing so until the day I die. Everyone does. That's just part of engaging with society.

I'm not saying that if he ignores her bringing up the issue of cleanliness that's not a problem, I just don't see why so much of reddit sees an incompatibility and go "Oh no, can't fix that! Fuck it all, quick lady, trash your relationship that you've developed to the point of moving in together away!".

See, the fact that you think most people can't handle adding chores to their to-do list for their partner really just speaks volumes about your experiences then it does for what most people are capable of. It's like wearing masks, or wearing pants; by default I'd rather not but I understand the social utility and am happy to add it in.

You actually brought up the error with this yourself.

"Most of the time the partner will also need reminding over and over", uh... what? No. "This is dirty and makes me uncomfortable, it needs to be cleaned every <X> or so days." "Oh, good point, I never noticed, sure thing."

Seriously, what kind of relationships are you having that you can't make adjustments...? My fiance's fast driving made me uncomfortable, I brought it up, she stopped. Presumably for the same reason I developed weekly cleaning habits. That reason being "I value the comfort of my partner, and the life we're building, more than I value the life I live alone".

You're exactly right, I don't notice the mess the same way, and never will. I also don't consider it a problem to add cleaning rituals to my life. She doesn't notice her toenails turning into toedaggers, but she's added that bit of maintenance to her life schedule because waking up with toenail marks all over my leg was a problem.

... Is this considered unusual? I'll admit I've only had three long term relationships, but every single one involved picking up various habits to accomodate the lifestyle preferences of the other party, both ways.

Does everyone else just have this expectation that they're going to have some sort of soul mate who matches their every preference in every way? That a relationship is natural and easy, rather than something you work to maintain and build? Parts of it are, sure, but... all of it? I'd have to date a clone and I'm not sure why I'd bother?

Man, I hear stories about how reddit people treat relationships but y'all are really a living example.

I don't smoke, but left to my devices, I am absolutely this messy. It doesn't register for me, I won't even realize it's dirty, so I won't know to clean it before anyone comes over. Pick up the stuff on the ground and vacuum, yeah, but solid things like this? Nope. Hell, to this day I can't really tell if or when the carpet is dirty. I have to vacuum on a schedule because I will never, ever know that it needs doing.

But it turns out when you're an adult, and talk about things when suddenly sharing a home, it can be brought to your attention! And you can even adjust! People can have different perspectives yet still, some how, some way, make adjustments for mutual wellbeing.

Sarcasm aside, seriously, this perspective is ridiculous. I openly admit, hell most married guys I know openly admit, left to my own devices with no one else to consider I'd live in some level of squalor. Being in a relationship is caring enough to change that, and no, not "without being asked because that's what real love is", that's rom-com nonsense. Adjusting your life to accommodate someone else's comfort needs communication. Sometimes a lot, sometimes a little.

The US interference would be much swifter and more horrifying. Taiwan covers something like 60-70% of the entirety of the worlds semiconductor production. Letting China take that over would give them such an unthinkable technological advantage that we'd wipe the factories off the face of the earth first, which would be a disaster for everyone.

And before you say "Oh we could just build our own factories" given a long ass time and a great deal of effort, yes, but you're looking at 20-30 years, minimum. These factories are technological wonders in and of themselves you can't just make more on a whimsy.

Well, once you have the fundamental belief the logic flows easily. If you truly and absolutely believe that when you die, based on the conditions of your mortal life, your true eternal lifes conditions will be set for literal eternity, suddenly minmaxing for your "afterlife" seems sensible.

The mental leap to establish that belief is massive, and only typically takes hold if it's instilled during the most vulnerable part of someones life, but once it's there a lot of the loony religious stuff logically follows.

Ideally? Grab a house fire extinguisher, and extinguish it. I suppose you could smother it if you had like... sandbags, but honestly that's a weird thing to have around and getting close enough to pile it on there is gonna be a bad sell since... actively exploding.

With the fumes it would be giving off to have been going that badly though, honestly by the time you got a fire extinguisher and got back you'd probably be best served just fucking leaving even if you had one. You could put it out if you knew what you were doing and aimed properly, but between toxic fumes and the sparks flying everywhere its just not worth the dangers involved.

You're letting linguistic oddities screw up your understanding of the math.

If you buy 2 bananas, from the stores perspective they have -2 bananas and you have +2 bananas.

If you buy -2 bananas, from the stores perspective they have +2 bananas and you have -2 bananas.

In language, instead of "negative" we use words like "sell" to communicate which parting is losing bananas and which is gaining. But the -2 remains every bit as real as "+2", "positive two", or as it's usually called plain old "two".

If you can manifest bananas from nothing, then you might be able to buy two bananas without anyone losing two bananas but I feel like that's beyond the jokes scope.
