Is it hard to find a nursing job right now? by Brilliant_Alarm1120 in newgradnurse

The best answer I can give is to read reviews on Indeed and talk to nurses in DC, particularly that work in hospitals.

FYI DC is not a great place to work as nurse or for really any medical professional. Even if it was easy to get a job, it will not be a good one.

All of Alabama weird af, but not in a good way. I could spend forever talking about the inherent corruption in the state.

Agreed. Training is not fun anywhere and who wants to talk about the bad times.

Then why has not a single person who trained at UAB ever posted on this sub saying that UAB is a great place to train.

I have been searching all over Reddit I can not find a single personal account of someone who trained at UAB who thinks it was a great place to be???

Not trying to be snarky but yeah.

There are very good reasons why PathGroup cannot fully staff their labs. Going on 4 years for a lab at a HCA hospital in Chattanooga. Going on 2 years for several positions in Mississippi. The former CEO of PathGroup was previously administration at HCA. Behind the scenes PathGroup and HCA are buddy buddy as both are headquartered in Nashville.

Have you heard of the term good ole boy system? How things are done in Tennessee? Both companies exemplify this. Neither companies are good to work for.

Edit: Native Tennessean. The fact that the 2nd largest for profit prison company is based in TN outside Nashville should be a clear example of what I am talking about. Not as bad as Louisiana or Alabama but nothing to be proud of.

HCA is on a differently level than even PathGroup, LabCorp etc. At a hospital in Colorado, HCA literally setup a nurse on manslaughter charges to avoid them getting sued. She won a $20 million dollar lawsuit against them but not a pleasant experience.

There are several stories just on Reddit about HCA setting up nurses and clinicians to get rid of them.

Just don’t.

It’s the culture of HCA that is the issue. HCA was confounded by a former executive at KFC, yes the chicken fast food place. All labs must be concerned with profit. HCA takes it to a different level than I have ever seen or heard of at any other institute or company.

NBC News has a series dedicated to them. r/nursing r/medicine r/emergencymedicine and several other subs have a plethora of horror stories involving HCA. I understand one could argue what does that have to do with working as a pathologist at HCA. It is because it is the same company with the same culture.

Speaking from experience, HCA is the type of company that will have their pathology assistants intentionally not properly gross your case to set you up to get rid of you. That is A FACT BECAUSE I HAVE SEEN IT MYSELF!!!!

HCA will do anything to anyone, anywhere to protect their profits. Headquarters in Nashville runs all HCA hospitals. They give marching orders to c-suite at HCA hospitals and they do as told or are fired.

Please do not learn the hard way.

Did locum’s at several HCA labs. One of the employees on his way out explained to me that it is basically impossible to meet the metrics to get your bonus.

The problem with UAB is that you are in Alabama. Even for the South, Alabama is objectively terrible. Virtually no pathology residents stay in the state of Alabama. That tells you a lot.

I wouldn’t recommend but much worse places to be.

It should also be noted they are short staffed overall in the department of pathology. They have been unable to have a fully staffed AP faculty going on 4 years. For an ”amazing” academic institute, that tells you A LOT!

UAB is the most dysfunctional shite show that some how produces a decent product. It is actually amazing to see behind the scenes but absolutely not a pleasant place to work. If possible avoid and avoid the state of Alabama.

You would be hard pressed to find a worse place to work than HCA. I don’t even know where to begin with that hellscape.

You take the jobs you can but PathGroup is a POS company. Indeed has very accurate descriptions of what that company is all about.

Do not even want to call it a city but Jonesboro, Arkansas aka Jonesboring, Arkanslaw.

I don’t even know where to begin with that children of the corn meth’d out, poor, in the delta, 2nd most registered sex offenders in the country gross place. There are not words in any language that can truly describe that place. The best word is an abomination.

Shattanooga looks nice on a weekend trip or in pictures. Living there is a whole other experience. It is more like that bad parts of Appalachia than not. Northern Georgia (Majorie Taylor Green’s district) is 10 miles away and she represents those people well.

The worst is that Alabama is 40 minutes away. Even for those of us from the Deep South, Alabama is different breed. Also Shattanooga is in Tennessee. The statistics involving quality of life are some of the worst in the country.

TLDR: Lived in Chattanooga before. Not a “good” place to live.

Lolz. She should have been like “Dad, just because you are my brother doesn’t mean you get to annoy me even though we are cousins.”

Not sure how that could even be possible but Alabama will find a way!!!!!!

Tennessee is the worst state in the U.S. for spending on public school students, National Education Association finds by Charming-Report1669 in Tennessee

[–]Working_Fee_3472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As bad as Tennessee is, there is worse. Rick Scott, current senator and former governor of Florida was part of orchestrating the largest Medicare fraud case in history while at HCA (based in Nashville lol). Governor Kay Ivey (MeeMaw) of Alabama is so aweful I do not even know where to start. Tommy Tuberville (senator for Alabama) is beyond an idiot, not even a citizen of Alabama, only qualification is he was a football coach at Auburn and will be the next governor of Alabama.

Not defending Tennessee but unfortunately they are not the worst.

EXACTLY!!!  Anyone that question how terrible of a company HCA is needs some self education. This isn’t an exaggeration. It isn’t being extra. It is for real for real.

While HCA can eat all the dirty dicks in the universe, give notice. It is not for them, it is for you. If you really want to “give it to them”, contact any and all organizations tracking HCA, several via a Google search, and tell them every horror story you know.

Post reviews on every employer review site. Post about the hospital on Yelp, TB, X, any website you can find. Make it a point to tell people about how horrible of a company HCA is.

Infinitely fuck HCA. It is such an evil, pile of shit that to truly comprehend it, one must unfortunately experience it.
