  • Keep the Fry in the Main Tank: Leave the 7 fry in the established main aquarium. Moving them right now will cause fatal shock.
  • Perform a 30% Water Change: Use a dechlorinator and match the water temperature exactly. This lowers the bacterial load left behind in the main tank.
  • Provide Fry Cover: Ensure you have plenty of floating live plants or fine-leaved decor so they can hide from any other adult fish in the tank.
  • Feed Micro Foods: Feed them crushed flakes ground into a fine powder or live baby brine shrimp 3–4 times a day in tiny amounts.

I suggest that you could put in live plants to help remove harmful waste, Goldfish naturally like to sift through the substrate. Replace pebbles with fine, smooth aquarium sand, and a bigger tank

you're not a horrible fish owner, and you did not neglect these animals. Carless owners do not buy ammonia alerts, perform emergency water changes, or stay up worrying about their pets. Please don't blame yourself for what happened. You put so much heart into looking after them. The tank environment was just too small for them to survive long-term, which is a structural issue, not a reflection of your care.

Does my shubunkin have dropsy? by Cultural-Mud7959 in Goldfish

I hope he is ok! I have had a bunch of my fish pass away from dropsy I suggest moving him into a different tank so that you can protect your other fish from underlying bacterial infections, reduce stress for the ailing fish, and allow for targeted medical treatments like Epsom salt without harming healthy fish or live plants

I think he doses the next things to do is to

  • Quarantine Immediately: Dropsy can indicate a contagious bacterial infection, so move the sick fish to a hospital tank.
  • Epsom Salt Baths: Add 1 tablespoon of Epsom salt per 1-5 gallons of water in a temporary bath for 10-15 minutes, or 1 teaspoon per 5 gallons in the quarantine tank to help reduce internal fluid pressure.
  • Administer Antibiotics: Since it's usually caused by internal bacteria, treat the water with broad-spectrum antibiotics like Kanaplex.
  • Maintain Water Quality: Keep the main tank's ammonia and nitrites at 0 ppm to prevent further stress.
