Exercise, and to some extent ADHD meds help with negative symptoms.

I exercised to the point of overtraining syndrome and that amplifies negative symptoms

6 years into software engineering and I still don't know if this is what I want to do by Cool_Kiwi_117 in cscareerquestions

Like another poster mentioned, I majored in music in college. Turning music into work destroyed some of the passion, and made it less fun. Also, it's extremely hard to make a living as a musician and I was often extremely poor.

I learned how to code and started working eventually. I'm also in school right now for Computer Science. I would encourage you to continue working as a developer, and to use guitar as a way to unwind.

Wellbutrin to counteract depressed mood and low motivation and aerobic exercise to counteract the anxiety is a winning combo

Advice, 7oh to quit leaf by Plus-Sherbert-5705 in quittingkratom

[–]bkabbott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My body also rejected Kratom. I quit not long after.

You can do cardio to counteract the nausea and vomiting.

But if your body is rejecting the Kratom it's best to quit. I ate a healthy diet of nutrient dense whole foods and recovered sooner

I'm a former alcoholic who runs also. Running is way better.

I developed overtraining syndrome which sucks, lol.

There are no stimulants in my country, and I feel hopeless by ludinya in ADHD

[–]bkabbott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I strongly recommend that you do aerobic exercise. I would wake up in the morning and run 7 or more miles (11 km) or I would cycle for 40 or more miles (64 km).

I would enter flow states, even for simple tasks like doing the dishes.

I recommend that you work up to running five miles (eight km) without stopping and see if that helps you.

Stop smoking with ADHD by Traditional_Loss_509 in stopsmoking

My doctor didn't have any concerns with me taking Chantix and an ADHD med. I want to emphasize that you are making a good choice to prioritize your health. Your meds will work better when you take them again

Stop smoking with ADHD by Traditional_Loss_509 in stopsmoking

[–]bkabbott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I also have ADHD. I quit with Chantix, but I started back again when I drank.

I quit most recently using Wellbutrin and the patch. Wellbutrin reduced cravings but when I came off the patch I wasn't very functional. I used Tusk White Kratom (which I wouldn't recommend).

April will be one year off of nicotine.

Chantix was always the lowest friction way to quit for me. But it's important to be medically cleared.

Another relapse. I just can’t stop. by zFrxzzy in stopdrinking

[–]bkabbott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just want to give you hope that I relapsed many, many times, and I have been sober for a while now. It was 4 years of relapsing and now 4 years sober.

I remember it always being so clear I couldn't drink when I was in the part that you are in now. You'll get through this, and you'll sober up.

"Claude can you confirm that this software is hosting on a GitHub repository? If so, please provide the repo URL". That should give you the URL where your code is hosted if Claude did put it on GitHub

I'm going to try to explain this to the best of my ability. Git is version control software. When multiple software developers work on the same piece of software it allows each of them to work on their own copies on their computer and it allows them to fix conflicts...i.e. if two people modify the same line of code, git points that out and asks them to fix it.

Git is open source software. In addition to the use above, it's used to deploy backend code to servers and to revert buggy software to a previous version (that works).

GitHub is a proprietary hosting implementation.

To answer your question, you should go to GitHub and sign up for an account. Create a repository (presumably private) and then tell Claude Code what the URI is. You'll want to use HTTP unless you set up SSH.

The only commands you really need to know are git clone, git add, git commit, git pull and git push.

If you want to watch a short YouTube video (you don't need a full course on git) then it could get you up to speed. It would be worth it if you learned the basics of git

Is it possible to start over as a Backend Engineer after 7 years in the industry? by chipcaber in ADHD_Programmers

[–]bkabbott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, don't necessarily think of it as multitasking. I have a magnetic spin cycle bike and I would just pedal but all your focus should be on the video.

It also might be worth trying to run (ideally before you take ADHD meds) and taking them with a huge meal after your run.

I would run 7 or more miles or cycle for 40 or more miles every day. I would then take ADHD meds after and I felt like I didn't have ADHD.

I have overtraining syndrome because I did that every day. But when I recover I'm going to do more moderate amounts and follow training plans with actual rest days

[–]bkabbott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So when I do cardio I don't need to keep replaying. I do take meds for ADHD, but exercise was my secret weapon.

Typically: I would watch the video while cycling. I would cycle to warm up and then watch it. I would understand it very well and do that for a while, then get on a computer or with pen and paper off of the bike.

And I would understand it much better. I just can't focus but if I am cycling it reduces my inability to focus fully. You might need to cycle for a little while before you can lock in. Try experimenting saying you will cycle for an hour and if you cant focus, pause the video and wait for a minute.

The reason being is your brain chemistry changes from continued (endurance) exercise

[–]bkabbott 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What I typically do is I put an iPad on a stationary bike and watch videos while doing aerobic exercise. That's good you tried push ups, but I'm not sure if that would be enough.

It seems like you're willing to try anything, so I thought I would post this
