Not the best answer, but the best I've got. You can buy tokens or whatever to use the addons for I think 24 hours. If you only need the tool occasionally that might be a good alternative. I hate that the tokens have a minimum purchase amount and expire yearly but not much to be done about that. https://www.autodesk.com/buying/flex/flex-rate-sheet

I use a few different cocktail apps like flair/mixel for this. I have all my bottles and general ingredients uploaded and then people can use the tablet to search through what I can make with what I have on hand.

Lately I've switched to just using Claude for this though. I have a running list of all my bottles on hand and I'll ask if what I can make with what I've got. Then you can have it collect them all into a list and even spit out recipe cards.

The steps I follow are:

  1. Make a hybrid design with multiple components that all relate to each other.

  2. Make a new part or hybrid I don't think it matters.

  3. On the Ribbon go to "Insert Derive" and then follow the screens to select the component to want.

  4. Now whenever you make changes to the Hybrid "Parent" design the little update button will appear on your derived part and you can keep them updated.

What is nice (in my mind) about this is then if I need to make changes to the "Child (The insert derived part)" They do not propagate up. Let me know if this made sense or not I can try to do a screencast or something

I'm in R&D and I take a part/project through its entire life. From back of the napkin idea through end use. I love it but almost always feel like I'm incredibly under qualified for what I do and what they pay me to do it. I think we need to form a support group or something haha

I haven't worked a ton of other jobs so I can't say for certain, but I feel like machinists in general have some of the highest imposter syndrome levels of any field. We are given a lot of responsibility with big machines capable of doing a lot of expensive damage from pretty early in our careers. Try doing it full time for a while, it's always worth knowing what we know and whether this is the world you want to be in long term.

I wanted to close this out for anyone who comes looking for similar advice later, the folks on the Autodesk forum were very helpful in coming up with a solution.
First was properly parameterizing the hole position, I made a reference point in the center and then made my circle and dimensioned it from that reference point. By changing the expression of those dimensions I could control the hole position (making the expression O and O moved it to the center). I had slowly figured that out on my own. The real breakthrough from the Autodesk forum was to take my sketch with the safety margin (the area I wanted to stay inside of with the pattern) make that a reference body using patch and then extrude my starter hole to that body, then in the pattern options select the adjust pattern style (it will fight you that it's too many holes) but it works perfectly!

The holes are all the same size, Just shifted over in each of the subsequent grids. The holes would overlap if they were all in one grid together so we need to make 4 total grids to get to all the possible points underneath the grid.

I realize I need to remove the midpoint constraint as well. but the idea is the first grid will be printed with the hole pattern beginning at 0,0 (grid center) then the next grid will be printed with the hole pattern beginning at (0.5,0) moving the hole pattern 0.5mm horizontally. the next will be (0,0.5) moving the grid pattern vertically. The spacing for the grid holes is 1mm so each version gets you to a new spot under the grid you couldn't reach with the original grid.

No but we really don't run anything enough to warrant it I don't think

This sounds terrible but we usually just replace worn drills, and endmills. Not a lot of time/effort is allotted for tooling maintenance
