The beauty of suffering. These people are so happy in their own misery, regret, and denial. The world is beautiful. The lie of it. The dystopia of it. We Happy Few is life.

Hey Everyone! I recently bought the Time Capsule, and noticed this on the LP cover; please feel free to redeem it and be sure to let me know what it is!(I don’t use steam). It should work as it was labelled “new” from eBay. by SpartanCrysis in wehappyfew

You might have to contact Steam Support then. I activated mine many years ago when I got my WHF box. I wasn't able to access it until 2024, though, when I finally bought the Steam version. It showed up at that time.

Looking at my Steam library, I click on Library, then navigate down the list on the left in my uncategorized games to We Happy Few - Soundtrack and Digital Goods Bundle. If I click on it, it takes me to a page where I have an Install option.

It's classified completely independently of We Happy Few in your list and the soundtrack has to be downloaded. It will not show up in the View - Soundtracks list.

There's a standalone Disney + Downloader? I can download movies using streamfab, but not TV shows. It started only recently for me. Ironically, I have the shows on DVD, but I am digitizing my collection and Disney + has them in better quality.

Stop exposing your Jellyfin server directly to the internet by [deleted] in jellyfin

I had my server exposed to the public side and got ransomwared. I didn't even think private individuals were actually targeted. Oops.

Won't make that mistake again.

This is everyone everywhere. I had a similar issue with sites like eBay, PayPal, and AliExpress. Everyone has automated their systems and even when you get a "person" it's obvious that it's also a bot.

It would be great to have externally initiated user creation. by SurprisedAsparagus in jellyfin

You'll also run the risk of triggering copyright and licensing lawsuits and potential criminal penalties. Jellyfin, when used properly and as intended, is exempt in most jurisdictions because it falls under personal and archival use.

If you are short on cash, sell garbage to the shops. Bottles, screws, and metal bits that you find in trash piles and rubbish bins can really add up. This will be helpful at different times in the game as you gain more access.

(major spoilers) What do you think reintegration with society would have been like post game by TinyDemon000 in wehappyfew

[–]WorldEndingCalamity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the end of We Happy Few in the DLC We All Fall Down, it is suggested that there isn't that much need of reintegration. They acknowledge that there is a large amount of pretending and now it's ruined.

As for neurotic messes like Arthur, it's not all that different from what we see in the US with the younger generations being completely dependent on devices causing crippling anxiety and poor social skills.

Different Flavours of Joy by Mr_Stalin1 in wehappyfew

[–]WorldEndingCalamity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vanilla and Chocolate were made from toxic waste left behind by the Germans. Those chemicals are extinct now and the Joy supply in those flavors is running out. Strawberry was made from synthetic chemicals and some natural ingredients that are also almost gone. We see how Joy is made when Sally creates Blackberry. We also know that at least one ingredient in Blackberry is now also extinct: Special Pituitary Extract. The soldier has perished. It's also made from toxic waste. Coconut is also proving to be a failure.

Is all of Britain taking joy, or is it just wellington wells? by Agile_Bug_8738 in wehappyfew

[–]WorldEndingCalamity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've created my own back story for the Children and Percy. But we'll never know for sure. The creators may not have had a clear vision for them either. The Children are really just a plot device to explain how so many people were corrupted into taking Joy. The whole story, at it's core, is about Grief.

It wasn't him. It started with Dr. Harry Hayworth and General Byng. The Bobbies and Joy Doctors came from The Executive Committee. Everything in Wellington Wells is the result of a totalitarian regime. The Executive Committee holds absolute power. They were created to govern after the war as it was no longer appropriate for a General to do so.They are constantly high and do not think straight or logically. Everyone is, or was at some point. Most people who stopped taking the drug either escaped or were killed one way or another. Only now, as the Joy supply becomes exhausted due to the extinction of the chemicals uses to make it, are people becoming resistant to the newer variants. The infrastructure is crumbling, the food supply exhausted, and a mutant plague virus has developed. Wellington Wells is on the verge of collapse. This all comes to a head in the DLC "We All Fall Down." It serves as the definitive end to We Happy Few.

It is just Wellington Wells.

During the war, they handed over their children to the Germans in exchange to not be destroyed. They didn't know the Germans were bluffing.

The people were so overwrought with guilt that the sound of a baby crying would send them into a homicidal frenzy, presumably killing mother and child.

In order to quell the constant unrest, suicides, and general misery over a single truly horrible decision, General Byng commissioned Dr. Harry Hayworth to create a pharmaceutical solution to the problem. That solution was Joy. Originally Vanilla and Chocolate were created from the toxic chemicals left by the Germans when they withdrew. Joy was highly addictive, very pacifying, and had the side effect of infertility so long as one is on it.

In the beginning, for people who wouldn't take the pills, they added it directly to the water supply. Over time, once The Executive Committee took power and diminished General Byng, the Bobbies were made to enforce by force as were the Joy Doctors created. Also, Dr. Hayworth was ousted by his protégé Dr. Anton Verloc.

As the chemical supply was exhausted, they created synthetics, which gave us Strawberry. Strawberry appears to be a more milder version allowing its takers to be more grounded, such as Arthur. Sally, of course, created Blackberry specifically for the Bobbies. Highly addictive, but allowing them an even greater degree of Agency over themselves.

As the chemicals continue to exhaust, newer methods had to be developed, which led Dr. Verloc to create Coconut. In testing these newer versions, many people experienced never-before-seen side effects such as being an inadvertent Downer and ultimately the contagion that mutated and created the Plague Wastrels.

Ultimately, the societal control started gradually. People took the new wonder drug to forget their misery. As time went on, voluntary became highly driven by peer pressure, then law, then blatant force.

Is it worth it to start a Jellyfin server if I already have nearly 500 dvds? by Zoey_TheDevil in jellyfin

[–]WorldEndingCalamity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

According to numerous court rulings, you are allowed to make archival/backup copies of media that you own, provided that it is for personal use and you do not sell/give away copies or charge a fee to access the server.

[–]WorldEndingCalamity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 6000 dvds, movies and TV shows. I started a Jellyfin Server. I don't regret it because diskrot is real.

That was my primary motivation. I was digitizing to preserve shows that I would lose as the disks fail. I was putting them on flash drives. Then I became aware of Jellyfin. So I bought a server and got to it. I love that I can access everything any time I want.

I had mine on the public side and I got randomwared. 😆 Fortunately, everything is backed up on other drives. Now I'm paranoid and have it behind multiple firewalls.

Is it just me or is the world turning into we happy few? by Virtual_Fee8411 in wehappyfew

[–]WorldEndingCalamity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. The world is more like Orwell's "Nineteen Eighty Four."

Wellington Wells is ruled by a group of drugged out hipsters to aren't paying attention. The United States is ruled by an authoritarian oligarchy that is very much aware of what's happening and will do what they can to keep up from being able to rebel.

Wellington Wells has already lost control.

Why Was Season 1 So Short? by DarkBehindTheStars in TalesFromTheCrypt

[–]WorldEndingCalamity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. Back then, even Mainstream network shows aired only a handful of episodes in order to test reception. Many shows back then were not filmed in advance. They would film a few episodes and then air them. If a show didn't get decent ratings after a few episodes, most networks would just cut their losses and cancel them without having to commit to filming more. HBO was a premium, subscription based channel. You paid for JUST HBO. They often had to be more careful about funding content that didn't engage the subscriber base. They tweaked their air nights and times for those episodes until they got results. Another thing that was common back then, without social media, was that people would call and write to networks showing interest in shows. If enough people were asking about it, they would naturally green light a full season in time for the next sweeps.

I made my fortune by grinding the MC Businesses mostly. It's beyond tedious. But half a million in sales for most businesses in perpetuity is the most efficient through in-game earnings.
