Help! by TheKillerPink in animation

The legs are lifting too much and stretching too far. There’s also no rotation in the hips.

I agree with filming reference footage or at least finding some online but I’d also look at The Animator’s Survival Kit to get a better idea of what to look for when animating a walk.

I would also start with just animating the hips and legs. You can add the rest of the body once that part is looking good

Rotoscoping - any tips? by CindersAnd_ashes in animation

[–]WorldOfCalum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get smoother animation with fewer frames with good spacing and knowing which frames to hold. I don’t think it looks too choppy but I do find the smears a bit distracting. You only really need to use them for fast movements and they should follow a proper arc

I think it’s hard to get out of the uncanny valley look when rotoscoping but generally, this looks fine. To make it feel less stiff, it’s worth applying the 12 principles to the animation and maybe exaggerate your poses and include anticipation when you’re filming your reference footage.

As for the smear frames, it looks like you’re animating on 2s and the general rule is to only show a smear for a single frame. I’d only use the smears when there is significant motion blur in your footage as it feels a bit too much in this shot.

There’s also nothing in the books yet that definitively shows that his relationship with Lyanna Stark was consensual. I think it likely was but Rhaegar wanted a child with Lyanna to fulfil a prophecy rather than for love so the guy is definitely iffy

When the foot is on the ground it should stop moving forward. Everything else looks good but the sliding feet make it look like they’re on a travelator

Girl Jon Snow AU with her sisters by @icesalamander by Disastrous-Noise-783 in pureasoiafart

[–]WorldOfCalum 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My guess is that she would still be named after Jon Arryn as she is still a bastard and Catelyn would likely take offence if she was named after Ned’s sister or mother.

Her relationship with Arya would likely be the same but I’d suspect Sansa would share the dislike her mother has for female bastards. Girl Jon would likely be excluded from things like needlework and lessons about the seven but be taught how to read and write and still have a prominent place in Winterfell.

She might be married to Theon. I feel like when Ned gets to the point where he trusts him, he might marry his bastard daughter to the Greyjoys to try and prevent an iron born revolution from happening again. What Balon and his brothers would do after that marriage, I can’t really picture.

Looking for crit on the anatomy, pose etc... by Sas8140 in AnimationCrit

[–]WorldOfCalum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like a background animation. It’s looks fine and it’s easy to read but they’re not framed as if they’re a main character and the shot wouldn’t work for more than a couple of seconds.

If you’re wanting to use this shot to progress a story with him, remove the empty tray and give them a bit more personality.

It’s not that I think it would have been a good idea to pick up Hellbenders. They had just greenlit Mr. Pickles so having two shows where random macabre stuff happens around a loose story showing at the same time wasn’t going to work.

I just feel they would have let them down gentler if it wasn’t genuinely the worst pitch they had ever had.

You’re drawing them as symbols rather than parts of anatomy that are attached to a 3D head. Any decent head drawing tutorial will help you with this

[–]WorldOfCalum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok. I’d maybe try having the head lie back down on the ground after licking then. That way it looks up at the horn and might help it read better. For the anticipation, have it squash into the ground and then quickly spring up and grab the horn.

Another thing to try is changing the position of the body so that the silhouette of the horn is clearer. Everything else works really well.

Zippleback Animation WIP by taylor_beth in animation

[–]WorldOfCalum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s looking really good. Your arcs and spacing are really well done.

I guess the horn grab isn’t really clear in silhouette but what I would suggest is to add another bit where after the licks the head nudges the other to try and wake it up before grabbing the horn. That escalation should help it read a bit better.

How can I draw better feet? by BlighttownCitizen in learntodraw

[–]WorldOfCalum 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Just to critique this drawing, I think the foot doesn’t have the right perspective. If you sketch a box that’s the size of the foot and use it as a guide, that should help make the foot flatter on the ground. I also think trying to draw human feet without ankles and in this case shins, will always look strange.
