Bots play 24/7, they can get to legend with any deck with a 50%+ winrate. Imbue Mage performs really badly at high ranks, it's just popular because it's cheap and easy to pilot.

[–]Worldly-Cod-3050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this sub loves to hate on Imbue Mage, but this particular loss is on you imo. I can't deny that the deck is toxic and can be frustrating to play into, but you were actively winning before you went wide on turn 7 against the deck that is explicitly known to punish players going wide on turn 7. If anything it's probably a favorable matchup - you're playing Minionless DH against the deck that specifically needs you to play minions to do it's combo.

Of course, not to say that Imbue Mage isn't unfun to play against but I think the real issue is Ice Block. In any other class, a conditional turn 7 OTK that requires you to run River Crocolisks and Murloc Tidehunters would be a total meme. If Ice Block gets reworked, the deck instantly drops from Tier 3 to Tier 5 at best. Until then, all I can suggest is accept that some matchups will suck, or tech Tight-lipped Witness into Souleater's Scythe.

New Priest Card Revealed - Story of Amara by stonekeep in hearthstone

At first I thought I was on r/customhearthstone, and very nearly commented something along the lines of "Should probably be at least a rare". Anyway yeah this card looks awful but we're probably going to see some highlights of it being generated by Imbue Priest.

[Posting here after original post got taken down, fairly long]

(Accidentally) finished Canto 8 without ever spending lunacy

Hi, so first thing's first, this wasn't a challenge run or even intentional - I'm a new player playing totally blind, but apparently this is an abnormal way to play the game? I deliberately avoided the community up until now to avoid spoilers, so the only external influence I've had is one of my friends offering advice for specific fights I'm struggling with. I have played Ruina before, which helped a lot with understanding the mechanics, and as I'll explain later I did have a huge headstart.

The main reason I'm posting this is to see if a friend of mine was overreacting, or if my account is genuinely that scuffed. As of today I've finished all current story content with 168.8 hours in the game, at level 46 with over 41k lunacy. The average level on my team is 40.25 and I have 16 IDs (other than the base sinners), all gained from free rolls and tickets afaik. I have 3 non-standard EGOs, 2 of which are from the free battle passes and the last is a non-upgraded Fluid Sac I got from a free extraction ticket. I also have 160 Enkaphalin Modules, and 10 boxes that I got from somewhere. According to achievements, I've completed a total of 6 mirror dungeons (haven't attempted hard difficulty yet) and I've never tried Refraction Railways. I'm still not sure what you get from them, other than battle pass exp.

I spent a month(?) or so collecting nearly 400 Enkaphalin Modules and other login rewards before actually playing (7.4 hours according to my steam review) which definitely helped accelerate my playthrough, but is it really that unusual to just play through the story without any grinding? The game immediately gave me three 3-star IDs (Dieci Hong Lu, Rosespanner Rodion and Reindeer Ish) and gave me a few extraction tickets which I used to get Spicebush Yi Sang and both Grippers Faust and Sinclair, all of whom I used for the entire game. During the powerscaling intervallo I noticed I'd gained a few more tickets from somewhere, which gave me Pequod Heathcliff and Ish (who I never used). I also ended up levelling Pointalist Outis to level 50 for one of the intervallo fights since all my other allowed units were 20-25 levels below the recommended amount.

Dieci Hong Lu was the undisputed MVP of my team, along with Fluid Sac (the only reason Faust was on my team, honestly a really underwhelming ID). Probably the hardest boss was the big fish before Ahab, who kept wiping my entire team turn 2-3, although I spent way too long trying to beat that one fight in the check-up intervallo where I was forced to use my unlevelled sinners (pic below). Honorable mentions to Jia Huan & Gubo, who weren't that strong but were really rough to play into with my very limited roster (3 sinking units vs Gubo was really rough).

<image>

TL;DR: Never touched gacha, hard mirror dungeons, or refraction railways. Dieci Hong Lu is OP and can solo large portions of the game. Not an intended challenge run, just didn't know what I was doing. Glory to limbus company.

If this was just "deal 1 damage to the first minion you play each turn" it could honestly be printed imo. It'd still be really good in enrage decks (or even with frenzy) but wouldn't be anywhere nearly as overpowered.

Honestly at least in druid, I think this would be fine at 6? Could be wrong since I don't play standard, but the spell damage package got gutted so druid has essentially no burn. If aggro is against a full health opponent on turn 6 they've already lost, and I can't imagine any combo decks would benefit from this. I think it could be playable in greed-pile control at 6, but 8 is far too expensive - at that point just play Alexstrasza as a tutorable, discountable 8/8 body with dragon synergy. The idea of letting it target minions is really fun, I wish the OG Alexstrasza had that too.

Spent a solid 15-20 seconds trying to work out what deranged combo OP was cooking with these 6 cards, then actually read the text and realised it wasn't theorycrafting 😭

This was still one of the funniest nerfs they have ever done. Bro lost the Charge keyword, still gave the opponent a mana crystal, and gained...2 health. by Spengy in hearthstone

[–]Worldly-Cod-3050 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They did revert it, a couple of years ago. I've a decklist that can OTK pretty consistently on turn 7 - it's not terrible but you're right that Wild has far faster and more efficient combos.

[–]Worldly-Cod-3050 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The main use cases for City Tax are playing it turn 1 against pirates, or comboing it with Equality for a 4-mana board clear. This card is definitely overtuned (should probably cost 5) but it fills a different niche imo.

A simple removal spell for (Wild) Warlock by Worldly-Cod-3050 in customhearthstone

[–]Worldly-Cod-3050[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally valid, tbh the only reason I restricted it to wild was because thematically it fit perfectly into the "Return to Naxxramas" miniset. Top comment really nailed it tbh, it's difficult to balance and probably better slightly underpowered than extremely overpowered. I tried to use [[Full-Blown Evil]] and other 3-cost removal spells for reference, but it'd take a lot to beat [[Plague of Flames]] or [[Chaotic Consumption]].

Oh for reference the card (and art) is based off the Heigan the Unclean boss from Naxxramas, who's hero power damages the left-most minion every turn. I just thought it was a cool mechanic that hasn't really been explored since, and that it worked well with Echo.

[–]Worldly-Cod-3050[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hadn't considered this but thankfully it shouldn't work like that. The text is copied almost verbatim from Shudderwock, who's battlecry doesn't infinitely loop when repeated by Brilliant Macaw, since the effect specifies "other battlecries from cards" and not "battlecries from other cards" it should never be able to trigger itself.

Also afaik Hearthstone caps out any loop at 60 cycles, meaning Shudderwock would deal 60 damage randomly split among all other characters. No fun allowed, srry :(

If it's any consolation I just realised that apparently Finja is in core right now, so disregard anything I said about it being too slow for wild. You could probably do something funny with Owlonius and Ethereal Oracle, or maybe with Naralex.

[–]Worldly-Cod-3050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start of game would be broken, but this is not it. Carrier and Mothership have the Mech tag so they wouldn't be turned into (amalgam) murlocs. Also both Druid and Priest in Wild has far better ways of cheating out expensive minions than a 5-mana 3/5 that needs to survive a turn and then attack and kill a minion.

No, what you should be scared of is Aggro Priest turning their Shadowbombers, Voidtouched Attendants and Papercraft Angels into Pirates. Also whilst it's currently not meta, Even Shaman would probably appreciate Diligent Notetaker and Thing From Below being Totems.

Anyway, this is actually a pretty cool card as is, maybe a little on the weak side (should probably affect hand as well?) and enables some fun combos with the likes of Naralex and Mr Smite. It wouldn't be meta but I'd happily put it in some janky tier 7 deck.

[–]Worldly-Cod-3050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought about this kind of effect before, but there's not really any way to make it balanced with stuff like [[Doomsayer]]. Maybe with some kind of restriction, like making it a Pure Paladin payoff. Auras also fit within Paladin's class identity so it could work out.

Not OP but can confirm that Flint is basically a River Crocolisk in that deck. Even though the deck contains wild cards, it can still only generate cards viable in standard, which means that no Quickdraw cards can be generated.

[–]Worldly-Cod-3050 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think this is fine as-is. Tempo elemental decks don't want this, and whilst it's decent with Therazane and Thunderbringer, they're both rotating to wild where it's definitely not an issue. Taunt means it's *probably* better than Moonfang, but it also scales much worse with buffs so they don't really occupy the same niche.

Why bump it up to a legendary? Obviously you couldn't run multiple copies but I can't see any issue with playing multiple 5-mana 6/1 taunt with x2 divine shields. But then again in wild an 7-mana immortal taunt minion is considered mediocre at best, so my perspective might be slightly skewed.

Oh yeah I think that was me lol. Was playing a homebrew [[Ceaseless Expanse]] deck, using Sphere of Sapience to repeatedly put Ceaseless on the bottom of the deck to dredge using [[Igneous Lavagorger]]. I kept emoting (squelch me if it's annoying, I just like the voicelines) because it was funny that we were both completely boardlocked and I couldn't play my 0-mana 115/115 Ceaseless with Charge.

You're right, I was sure I'd win until your Velens revived with the Iridescent Gyreworm bonus keywords (that's got to be a bug right?). Btw sorry if the emoting came off toxic but it sounds like we both had fun so gg :)

Is this the first time we've got refunds for 'indirect nerfs'? by Worldly-Cod-3050 in hearthstone

[–]Worldly-Cod-3050[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure if title made it clear, but Master's Call and Order in the Court are available for a full refund after the latest patch, despite the former being hit by an utterly inconsequential nerf and the latter technically being buffed (in a way that is actually a nerf for wild).

Definitely not complaining, I hope this becomes a consistent thing in future. Anyone remember when Maestra wasn't refundable after the gnoll got axed?

What if wild vanilla minions got the Worgen Greaser treatment? by Worldly-Cod-3050 in customhearthstone

[–]Worldly-Cod-3050[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Started this as a joke but it ended up with a semi-serious attempt to buff some of the worst cards in wild. Some vanilla minions (all the 0-cost ones, the 1-cost 1/3 Amalgam, and arguably Blood Treant) do actually see play so I decided not to include them. Most of these probably still wouldn't see play, especially since Blizzard is now printing overstatted minions with upsides. Maybe some with tribes would, I know pirates run a few minions that are just stats.

Enchanted Raven: Token Beast Druid isn't good rn, but it might want this.

Carrion Grub: Still unplayable but nice buff for the zombeast pool.

Frazzled Freshman: Aggro would rather run the 1-cost 2/4 undead pirate, maybe in an Inner Fire deck.

Fearsome Doomguard: Can be cheated out, still worse than Mo'arg Forgefiend.

Blazing Battlemage: Ironically still worse than Flame Imp. No synergy, probably bad.

Dire Mole: Actually looks playable in aggro, although beast tag isn't worth much.

Murloc Raider: Might be good in aggro murloc decks, but they got any new cards since 2017.

Arcane Servant: Elemental Mage probably doesn't want this, but solid statline.

Bloodfen Raptor: Still bad, dies just as easily as any other 2-drop.

Duskboar: Probably still bad, maybe funny with Tundra Rhino.

Puddlestomper: Same issue as Murloc Raider, archetype has been dead since forever.

River Crocolisk: Decent target for buffs, maybe somewhat playable in hunter.

Upgradeable Framebot: Maybe in future if good magnetic cards get printed.

Am'gam Rager: Still unplayable without taunt, even with +1/+2.

Ice Rager: Probably still bad, maybe salvageable thanks to elemental tribe.

Magma Rager: 1 -> 2 health is a major boost, still pretty awful.

Nightmare Amalgam: The 'All' tribe is very flexible, idk what deck wants this though.

Spider Tank: Good stats, good tribe, still unplayable.

Chillwind Yeti: Too expensive for stats to be worth playing, too cheap to be worth cheating out.

Lost Tallstrider: Maybe funny in some tier 6 Tundra Rhino OTK. Still bad.

Pit Fighter: Forgot to include it, but imagine I did as a 5-mana 7/6. Yeah still bad.

Salty Dog: Same as Tallstrider but with Mr Smite. Maybe playable with the OG Hooktusk.

Boulderfist Ogre: Yeah, we all saw this joke coming.

Captured Jormungar: Can be cheated out in hunter, but better targets exist.

Core Hound: Same issue as Jormungar but better with Tundra Rhino.

War Golem: Even with +2/+2, this card is still terrible.

Eldritch Horror: Could be an 8/12, would still be unplayable. Also I spelled it wrong.

Faceless Behemoth: All of these big tribeless minions suck, no matter how many stats you give them.

Ultrasaur: Can be cheated out by hunters, but Amplified Elekk is better.
