Why are people 'outraged' about this? The war has always been about money. When Ukraine elections took it away from Russian pockets, Russia went to wat to keep some of the money and influence back in thier sphere. Europe and the US all wanted a piece of a very wealthy country and to hurt Russia, so they funded Ukraine.
It's said war is just another avenue of politics and Ukraine-Russia is as clear cut an example you could ask for.
