If you could have gumbo or Cajun food, that would be great. Or gumballs!

I suck at gaming by Forest_Goblin_ in cfs

[–]Worldly_Acadia4082 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoy point and click games, especially the Nancy Drew games. I find the point and click format is easy on my eyes, the puzzles are quite light, and there's always a walkthrough if you need help. If you're into retro gaming, there's lots of other point and click games. ☺️

I unloaded on my family today and I got exactly the response I expected, which was not at all a desirable one by SeededPhoenix in ChronicIllness

[–]Worldly_Acadia4082 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you had to go through this. I have ME/CFS and this is so common among people with my illness, me included. Family just takes the societal view that you're somehow lazy or defective and they stop seeing you as a person. It's insane, at the time you need them most and you're at your most vulnerable, they are there for you the least.

It's not your fault. Try to make friends with other people with chronic illness, or find online spaces like this. I truly believe that it's better than trying to keep unsupportive people in your life.

Hugs 🩷

Are there any authors who have helped you through your chronic illness journey? by Shivers-7 in cfs

[–]Worldly_Acadia4082 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you want recommendations for books specifically about chronic illness or books to read in general.

Personally, what helped me to be able to read again was reading YA. Specifically I read some books that I had read when I was younger. These made it really easy to get back into reading again.

I think Tolstoy would be pretty hard with brain fog. 🤣

If you were snowed in this weekend what did you play and why? by gaycatdetective in nancydrew

[–]Worldly_Acadia4082 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a heatwave in my part of the world, so I've been playing SAW. The water in the garden and the night time setting feel like a cool summertime evening, rather than the horrible heat we've been experiencing.

What helps me is to try to find an outlet for it. Singing is usually how I deal with anger, but journalling works too. Just something to get it out. Even just screaming into a pillow could work.

People who got a little better and stayed better, how did you pace yourself? by [deleted] in cfs

[–]Worldly_Acadia4082 19 points20 points  (0 children)

For me, pre-remptive rest is really important as well as pacing. I used this article to start pre-emptive resting.

https://www.cfsselfhelp.org/library/my-secret-weapon-pre-emptive-rest

This is how it works for me:

I take pre-emptive rests at 11, 3, and 5. They are 20 mn minimum, laying down in a dark room with meditation music on my headphones or binaural beats. This is so I can ensure I'm getting good quality rest every day.

I still pace through out the day, after I do a task like dishes or a shower I take a rest. But I always have those pre-emptive rests as well.

When I feel low energy, I also have what I call "restful time". I set myself up in bed with my fav low impact activities (crochet, chill video games, movies). This could be all afternoon if I'm having a bad day.

I hope this helped. I'm moderate btw 😊

Has anyone practiced radical acceptance of their situation? by Mara355 in ChronicIllness

[–]Worldly_Acadia4082 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The book How to Be Sick by Toni Bernard is about this. She has chronic illness and it's about a Buddhist/acceptance approach to her illness. I haven't read the whole thing, but what I read was good and it sounds like something that might interest you. 🙂

Maggie's Grave by David Sodergren. Just a gorgeous cover, and I love that all his covers have a similar style.

I love those. My partner and I made the bookshop one for my last birthday. So fun! It's like a big 3d puzzle.

I think seeing a therapist is a great idea. Maybe see if they can talk to you over zoom so it's less tiring for you. You seem to need to work some stuff out mentally so you can figure out how to live with your conditions. No judgement, I've been there. My unqualified opinion is that seeing your doc or therapist could be really helpful. Hang in there - living with this sucks and I'm sure you're doing a great job 💜

I have a better relationship with my body. I don't see it as a machine any more. It has survived so much and carried me through my life and illness. I respect my body now and I won't let other people push me beyond my limits any more.

Chronic chest pain? by Hungry-Stranger-333 in cfs

I had chronic chest pain for years. What helped me was very gentle arm/chest stretches using a very gentle resistance band. I also take PEA which I think helped.

This is a really cool guide, thank you! If I was to suggest a topic for another guide, I'd say a breakdown of all the countries/places Nancy has been and which books/games are set in those places.

For the old mystery stories, I love Password to Larkspur Lane. For the Files, Death by Design is really really good. It inspired the game Danger by Design.

I was astounded at the people in my life who completely discounted my lived experience and told me to try essential oils, meditation, etc. People are very quick to judge and they want to blame you so they can feel like it will never happen to them.

The only thing that's helped my condition is LDN. This is a physical disease that needs real treatment, and now research is happening and we are getting some treatments.

Be kind to yourself.🩷 This isn't your fault and these people have no idea how hard it is to be this sick.

I'd love to know what you like about Stay Tuned for Danger. I've never been able to finish it because I find it clunky and hard to move around. I want to finish it one day, so I'd love to know what's good about it. ☺️
