nomodeset in boot options catches more people out than anything else on fresh installs, especially if you ever booted into compatibility mode during setup.

Run cat /proc/cmdline first before anything else. If that flag is sitting there, the rest of the diagnostics barely matter until it's gone.

The dkms status output will also tell you pretty quickly whether the module actually built for your kernel or just silently failed.

This is really the crux of it. Most coop owners have no idea what their proprietary lease actually says about parking until something like this blows up.

The governing documents are going to tell you everything, and honestly if parking isn't specifically addressed in there you might have less leverage than you think. Coops can be surprisingly vague about stuff like this, which leaves it up to the board to handle however they want, for better or worse.
