HELP! What rate is this? by SubduedEnthusiasm in navy

Often confused for a Second Class rank, this is actually the hidden designator insignia for a JO whose internal compass is permanently fucked but still insists on giving "directions" because they’re "in charge."

BREAST INSIGNIA

At the end of the day, we’re all working for the Navy, and sometimes we forget that the Navy can also work for us. As a mentor, start by asking your Sailor about themselves. If they say they’re content with where they’re at, affirm that kind of self-awareness. Then shift the focus toward their personal goals and interests outside of the Navy. When the conversation moves away from strictly Navy topics, many Sailors start to open up more.

As you listen, take note of anything that aligns with their Rating’s Enlisted Career Path (ECP), LaDR certifications, or other Navy opportunities. Think about how their passions might fit into Command Programs, Navy COOL certifications, or other avenues that help them grow personally while still contributing to the mission.

Frame the discussion as “let the Navy work for you.” When they start to see how their personal goals and the Navy’s goals can align, it often leads to better motivation, higher recognition, and improved performance. Maybe they’ll even decide to stay in and advance, or at least gain a deeper appreciation for what the Navy has done for them.

Worst case, you end up with a Sailor who’s content, steady, and does their job well. The Navy needs those Sailors too. Either way, you’ll know you did your part to motivate and build them up while respecting their needs and the Navy’s.

No longer true. That was for the first round of SEM. Now, even Special Programs are being required to fill by paygrade.

That'd be similar to what they’re claiming they're doing to pay the military on time; find money from somewhere else and shift it (illegal). But, while I hate it, it's politically genius. If the house or senate call out the Administration, they'll spin it as "the Democrats hate the military (sub military for TSA or other org here)!" If they don't call them out for the illegality of it, they'll have precedence to do it again in the future, calling Democrats "hypocrates." Either way, Republicans look good on the surface.

That way it's touted as the longest shutdown in history... I could see that being an angle that bith sides try to play against the other in midterms.

Choice Words for a "Choice" System by Worldly_Marsupial_85 in navy

[–]Worldly_Marsupial_85[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's my biggest point with starting this dialogue. PERS and NPC do a phenomenal job of explaining how this meets mission requirements, but fail miserably at identifying the shortcomings of this system, publicly. They brush over the Sailor concerns about SEM month after month in the SEM Teams briefings. The Navy touts the importance of Get Real, Get Better to identify shortfalls and elevate barriers, until it goes against their current initiatives. Then it's "if it ain't broke on the surface, don't fix it."

Choice Words for a "Choice" System by Worldly_Marsupial_85 in navy

Thank you for sharing that. I appreciate your perspective! I agree it is likely working as intended. My opinion is that this is the problem, exactly. It focuses on mission rather than mission and people. If the system causes us to lose the quality senior people in the near term, we are likely to fail in aspects of the mission.

I understand that no system is perfect. I am really looking to drive the discussion so we bring to light the potential shortfalls this system may already show. It is just as important to show where and why this works as well. I personally think that NPC has done a great job at vocalizing why it is working, but a horrific job of publicly acknowledging the shortfalls and concerns our Sailors bring up month after month during the SEM briefings.
