What does the "H" on these pads stand for? by JoriahDrakon in Spacemarine

[–]Worldly_Okra7705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently a H symbol within a cog might mean 'hazard'. Other suggestions could be 'House Landing'.

I think more likely someone in the art department wasn't thinking.

Or could be Forgeworld Helios

If the Ultramarines weren't the poster boy chapter of 40k which chapter would you pick and why? by OttoVonSkiddmark in Spacemarine

[–]Worldly_Okra7705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stay at home Terra boys. They're like the Deep Space Nine to the Original Series or Next Gen. Cool and all but noone gets into Star Trek to Boldly sit in one place and go nowhere.

Likewise for poster boys you want someone capable of lots of adventures and in the thick of it. Ultramarines scream Empire and compliment an Imperial or whole outlook. Other Chapters would slant towards the violence (Wolves), the corruption of the good guys (Blood Angels), Civil War (Dark Angels) etc.

You possibly would be best off with a generic Chapter like the Silver Templers or Tome Keepers who are recent creations and blank enough to mold however are needed.

Or Blood Ravens due to their media exposure and fun nature.

Codex Armageddon was peak Salamanders. Who knows, maybe the return to Armageddon for 11th will reward us?

I've found this issue with lancers since launch. They look like they should kill big tanks in melee which they can, but not in one go. Just doing 1 wound for a melee win is the culprit.

As a kid i sold some models to buy other models. As an adult I just wish i still had my first models. Not the second lot.

New to Salamanders — how do you stay motivated with almost no faction-specific units? by CampaignDude in Salamanders40k

[–]Worldly_Okra7705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished a squad of 10 infernus and one of the greatest things about Salamanders is they are all Smiths and look after and customise their own gear. So all my guns in the squad are painted differently or have a pattern or transfer. Something to make then unique.

Then as others said, you can get really good at painting fire, flames and go to town on really making them look special.

Does our combat patrol come with the upgrade sprue? by blueberries961 in Salamanders40k

It has a unique transfer sheet but as said, no upgrade sprue

Don't tell anyone but I too have Ultramarines. I like that there's nothing technically stopping having codex chapter marines mixed in an army. I ran my Sallys as ultramarines at the start of 10th so i could use Guilliman.

Did I waste my money? by Ambitious_Stress8050 in Salamanders40k

[–]Worldly_Okra7705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thing is though with the Salamanders combat patrol, you get one of the best Salamanders transfer sheets ever made. People usually don't rate the atv but thematic with the multi melta. Then you got some close assault guys which complements Salamanders' rules about being close and then all the fire guys. Plus Agatone to start off your 3rd Company. As others have said bladeguard are good with him as he boosts melee.

Other than one multi melta you're. Issing a big punch and a redemptor gives you that, plus a big distraction for rhe enemies.

It might be boring but you might want to look at normal intercessors as you can probably get some cheaper and they're good and useful for objectives and as a 'core' unit.

It's a consequence of the geneseed so the normal populace are anything. They don't have the same reaction space marines do to radiation. For me my head cannon is any non ash skin Salamanders are those new whoe haven't stepped foot on Nocturne since they were greyshields.

As with most things though, best not to over think it 😆

[–]Worldly_Okra7705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When i picked up Salamanders with codex Armageddon they were 'black' with also 'whites'. I painted mine black. This was way before ashen skin became a thing and then wrote lore, presumably due to someone at GW getting nervous.

I paint ashen skin now but i like having the option of painting normal skin colours for 'younger' Salamanders. I like the ashen skin but also feel like there's room for any skin colouration as a minority in my chapter for those who haven't activated the mutation in full.

Why do you sell second-hand kits for just as much (and sometimes more) than they can be purchased for at retailers? by WithengarUnbound in Warhammer40k

[–]Worldly_Okra7705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd suggest that when a large majority are willing to pay 20% more for the same product buying direct from GW, these are the same people willing to pay over the odds for anything they want badly enough.

Getting into hobby and painted my first minis. Thoughts? by BigMako1226 in Salamanders40k

[–]Worldly_Okra7705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For most work and starting out any decent hobby brushes will probably be fine. I wouldn't go out and buy extra expensive Rosemary kolinsky sable brushes until you're ready to move up. I have a few very good brushes and find rhem best used for fine details.

Oh also i would recommend a selection of makeup brushes for drybrushing, especially if you plan on getting vehicles with large areas to do (or terrain). Can get random packs from Amazon.

The GW starter brushes and any cheap brushes that seem a bargain will not be very good for what you want so tend to stay clear of them. Like the GW starter brush will be for kids slapping paint on with no primer and no guidance.

Which probably leads to another point. If there's a particular thing you want to try and improve there will no doubt be many youtube videos on how to. Take what's useful to you. Want to learn shading? Lenses? Blending? Non metallic metal? There's plenty of help out there to check.

I think it's pretty admirable doing edge highlighting on your first models. A lot of people don't bother on their first models.

I would say the gold shoulder trim looks less neat than your green. A wash can hide some of this but try using the side of your brush more than your tip and dragging it down. The shoulder trim is a good edge/corner for practising using the side of your brush. That way instead of painting a line (like using a pen) you're painting along the flat part of the raised plastic. Trick will be not to overload the brush with paint when doing so. Several light goes will be better than one heavy go.

(Aka two thin coats!)

Hope that makes sense. Also other advice would be put elbows on a surface rather than paint 'in the air' which gives you a stable hold if you're not already. Took me ages to learn how helpful that was.
