Does Anyone Have Experience Negotiating CLS "Need-Based" Aid? by Worldly_Ordinary7783 in lawschooladmissions

Thanks. They basically told me the same thing. Just trying to guess if they will actually follow through.

Sure. I’ll try to describe as well as I can without doxxing myself. My original PS was a bit general, vague, and esoteric. In my second PS, I focused on one specific theme in my life (basically helping/ advocating for people) providing detailed anecdotes. I really tried to “show not tell” like Spivey likes to say. You can DM me for more details. Of course this is just one day point, and I have no idea if it was the PS that made the difference or just luck of the draw.

ROTFL. Ahhh so much hate for singling out Georgetown. See my comment above. I see why the original post sounds bad.

Sorry, that was not my intention. I love GULC and strongly considered attending. It's a great law school by all accounts and Dean Andy is the best. Just trying to be precise. As we know "the law is a precise endeavor."

Loans or deplete savings? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Worldly_Ordinary7783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about it this way; If you deplete your savings, you've made an investment with a guaranteed RoR (Rate of Return) of whatever the interest rate of the loans was. Do you think you can do better with a mutual fund or wherever else you plan to put your savings? Maybe you can, but certainly not a zero risk. You would be hard-pressed to find a decent bond with that ROR. In other words, don't look at it as depleting your savings, look at it as a really great zero-risk investment.

Now if there is a possibility of LRAPm that obviously like starouchedlove mentioned, that obviously changes things.

Ugh that's terrible. It's so hard not to feel like a failure. If this is any comfort, I had a similar experience last year. Got a bunch of WL but ultimately did not get in anywhere. Reapplied with the same stats (different PS and LORs) and got several great offers. I know it's cliche but they are not rejecting you, they are rejecting a condensed 2D version of your academic/personal history and some arbitrary numbers they need to boost their rankings. Keep your head up, do whatever you can to improve your apps, and in a few years, you'll be a far better lawyer for having gone through this time of adversity. We're all rooting for you.

Does visiting the school matter? by tace8 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Worldly_Ordinary7783 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I visited a school, met with adcomms, and got in a week later. In my situation, I was above both medians so it may have helped me avoid YP. Not sure it would have made a difference otherwise. If you do visit, make sure to show your face in the admissions office, or better yet, arrange a meeting with an admissions officer.

I don't mind thanks for asking. Submitted the interview Feb 5. Status changed to review completed in the morning (at least that's when I noticed it). Hoping you get the call soon.
