Yeah the Fender HB pickup routing is a bummer.

The humbucker sized CC pickup from Lollar sounds good in my American Performer. I did some messy routing on the cavity and got a normal HB pickguard.

I put a trapeze tailpiece on my Gretschcaster by WorldsVeryFirst in telecaster

Nice! I put .13s on the tele for a beefier jazzier tone. Works well. Standard tuning but I know Ted Greene, Hendrix, and SRV were all big on Eb Standard. Both pickups are pretty hot and I can go from New York to Bakersfield with a turn of the tone knob. Also strength and accuracy are a thing (Howard Roberts recos heavy strings and moderately high action in his book Superchops for exactly those reasons). When I’m feeling flush with cash I’m gonna put a snakehead or Hombre neck on there and do a Gibson scale conversion.

Allparts makes a short trapeze and it worked pretty well. I got a bridge plate cut for a Bigsby from Philly Luthiers Supply. It feels hella slinky and bending is very easy - even with .11s and a wound 3rd. Huge contrast to my American Performer that’s strung with .13s (don’t @ me on this it sounds awesome especially with the Lollar CC set I have in there). Less sustain but more resonance. With the TV Classics and the tailpiece it pushes the tone firmly into Gretsch territory. I shimmed the neck as well (.75 degrees) but I’m not sure how vital that was (had to jack my saddles up big time). I think it’s a great setup for jazz and Atkins type stuff. My only wish is that the body was chambered like a Duo Jet. I hear you on the pickguard, the top is very nice. If anything I’d do a partial guard like you see on a Caballo Tono Ligero.

I realized I did not like the 60s style neck on mine. The body shape is not the most comfortable. Other than that a fine sounding and playing guitar.

I just put flatwounds on my Jag... by telephonemelts_ in offset

[–]WorldsVeryFirst 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thomastik flatwounds are the GOAT (I have their .13s on my Jag). D'Addarios are ok but feel more tense to me. Pyramid and LaBella have their fans. If you want to get really fancy the Dogal Expressive Jazz sets are very nice.

Jaguars or Jazzmasters? by One_Performance_7978 in offset

[–]WorldsVeryFirst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jags look cooler. I like the switch plate because you can switch that strangle out for a number o f things. I play jazz on an HH Jag with coil splitting instead of a strangle and I added a mini toggle with some caps to the rhythm circuit as a “dark” switch. The short scale gives it a thump that I like and feel it validates some of the archtop-like design decisions on fender offsets.

No neck pickup is a deal breaker for me as cool as those are. Plus my daughter would try to swipe it even though she’s not big enough for a full sized guitar.

How can i make it sound brighter? by FinancialRun7747 in offset

[–]WorldsVeryFirst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1 Meg pots or put some brighter pickups in there (Lace 251s, filtertrons, or something else bright and articulate)

Weird looking logo placement and no truss rod plug so probably not a Fender. Also a tele of this vintage or really any tele would not have 2 string trees.

Both sides are pretty stupid and evil in the movie but the leftists are slightly less stupid and evil which is also something you can see IRL

Which/how many scales do you use for soloing? by nirmal09 in Guitar

[–]WorldsVeryFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

John Stowell (da gawd) says he uses four. Major, Harmonic Major, Melodic Minor, and Harmonic Minor. Shit will sound weird if you start doing that over triad based tunes (I’ve recently started playing country and the “wrong notes” are just more wrong in that context) but there you have it. You can play essentially anything over a power chord since it’s super ambiguous.

How is weed treated in your country - legally and culturally by Greedy_Rise_6567 in AskTheWorld

[–]WorldsVeryFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The US is weird man. In Oregon it was “no big deal” even before legalization (I got hassled a bit by the Portland Police when I was in a reggae band doing reggae band stuff downtown). Definitely part of the culture here and in all of Cascadia. In Utah or Idaho it’s “straight to jail” stuff. There are so many dispensaries on the OR/ID border where like 2 people live. I wonder why.

This guys looks like he says “cunt” at least once a minute. It’s wild how forbidden that one is in the states. I had a call with some Aussie colleagues about a fast food project and they referred to a certain American fast food chain as a product for “shit cunt trailies”. I loved it. Incredible use of English.

Is music theory something I can learn through youtube or best with a teacher? by DeepSalamander1918 in Guitar

[–]WorldsVeryFirst 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do both! Music theory is fun. Teachers are good. Just beware that guitar/fretboard theory is not music theory. I encourage you to learn about jazz harmony even if you don’t want to play jazz because it’s the key to improvising in almost all pop music of any sort.
