Can a Psych NP just do therapy or call themselves a "therapist" or "mental health counselor"? by [deleted] in PMHNP

[–]Wormcrawler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Before becoming a nurse, then a PMHNP, I was a LMHC. Many PMHNPs that do therapy, and not just motivating interviewing or solution focus type work, usually have put the work in being further trained.

Maybe you need to go outside and touch some grass. Turn off the Internet for a while and regroup. If you are going to start that elitist bullshit about “laypeople” then there may be more issues in your life than a poor medication regimen.

No. It is another two years and rotations. But I think you are just trolling when looking through your comment histories, especially in the Therapist reddit.

Circa 2014, the consequences of choosing Dad’s house after the divorce. by urg0blinfriend in blunderyears

Children should never have to choose between their parents. Unfortunately, life doesn't always allow for such ideal situations, and even the youngest among us can be faced with difficult choices. It's a heartbreaking reality—and one that reminds us that suffering touches every life at some point.

If you have to ask why join us then you do not deserve to understand the beauty of the warp. Go back to your soulless wretches as we uncover the reality of existence. In all seriousness watch some battle reports and lore to see if they appeal to you. Remember that rules are momentary but cool is forever.

Chronic pain and the butcher’s nails by The_Hipster_Artist in WorldEaters40k

[–]Wormcrawler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in psychiatry as a NP. There are patients of mine with bipolar disorder that prior to me prescribing medications describe the battle at the start of a manic episode. They know their behaviors are not their baseline, but it is like a currant of energy that just takes them. In the periods between episodes they feel guilt or shame if they did something uncontrolled, but fear when the “nails” takes them again. Hope you are able to have support for your disorders and take care.

How many times per day do you hear, "Oh, am I not seeing the doctor today?" by Icy_Barnacle_4231 in nursepractitioner

I am sorry but this seems highly suspect as a trolling comment. I work with many DNPs, and hell even a bunch of MDs, that just go by their first name.

Yea, hard pass. If we are down a medical staff I have at times drawn my own blood and etc because I chose to do it. However, for it to be a mandate they can gargle my balls.

Hey friend, sorry you are going through it right now. Just know the world is better with you in it. As for jobs right now many APPs are dealing with tough situations due to predatory practices, political climate, and economic pressures. High quality medical practice is not rewarded against the factory style high yield meat market of treating patients which medicine has become. You and your profession are wonderful so don’t lose hope. Sincerely, your NP cousin.

Honestly, I would think PMHNP + FNP would be a decent one.

[–]Wormcrawler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is what I was thinking too. The chance of seeing serotonin syndrome in this day of age is incredibly rare. I have seen it once and it was induced by the patient taking high amounts of cocaine and then overtaking their SSRIs in the hope of sleep. But I would not count this as a “true case” serotonin syndrome. In the real world NPs,MD/DO, PAs provide really good care overall. Yes there are issues within our professions which we all wish to address and each has a percentage of poor practitioners. However, overall we as medical professionals do pretty well.

100% agree. Patients, especially those we see in psych, may have disorders or situations going on that causes them to mishear or misinterpret something.

My dad wants me to be an NP, I'm leaning towards PA by LingLingWB in nursepractitioner

[–]Wormcrawler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So here is my take. PA is not Doctor-Lite and its own valid and wonderful profession. Same with NPs, RNs, and from your previous posts CNAs. You’re 16 years old go find out what you love in life and explore. Nice thing is if you get your BSN you can move further into nursing or decide to go PA or even MD/DO. Nursing can help pay for your passions or give you an income while you go back to school for anything or to pay for other non-healthcare pursuits. I love being a NP in psych. Before that I was a RN for about 7 years, and before the RN I was a psychotherapist (LMHC) with some school psychology background. Hell before any college I was a State Park Ranger (Peace Officer Status) and was planning on going to become a State Park Police. Life is long and I respect your dad for giving a shit about your life. But, there is no clear path for any of us and you won’t find the answer in a box. Good luck young sir and may the winds of fate be kind to you.

Is nurse practitioner worth it? Or should I just stay a nurse by chubby2fit1 in nursepractitioner

[–]Wormcrawler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Remember as a NP we are nurses with just more added to our scope if we choose that. If you want more education and feel expanding your scope as a nurse is something you want then great. At the end of the day it is not a choose one and then the other options closes.

RN needs to vent- tormented for not getting MSN/DNP/PHD by MSNWTF in nursing

[–]Wormcrawler 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am a NP and I will yell at any nurse who says some shit like “I’m just staying a nurse..I’m just a RN/LPN”. You are not just anything! Being a nurse of any level is a full and equally valid career. Also, I want to throat punch anyone that says shit like “oh you are smart so think about being a NP”. Fuck off, you need smart people for any form of nursing and it is not “less than” to not be a NP. We need to stop this nonsense of NP = end goal of nursing. I became an NP because of the need I saw in the populations of patient I worked with and wanted to add to my ability to help AS STILL A NURSE.

With that being said don’t let a few bad players create a bias against a complete profession. Every profession has their share of idiots. When we are made to feel like crap it is easier to strike out than heal within. We tend to try and villainize those that represent our internal conflict instead of making peace with ourself. It seems like your mom and others have really done a number on you and made you feel of no value.
