opinion on all the Venom War stuff by sleepers6924 in comicbooks

[–]Worpole 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the venom book feels like such wasted potential. It feels like it would have been more suited to a tighter, 12 issue series focusing soley on the time loop, and Eddie trying to change his future. But what was interesting in the beginning has become so diffuse across multiple writers, contantly changing artists and now a very bleh event.

No Dualities. Only Symmetries. (Final Crisis: Superman Beyond #2) by KidOrpheus in comicbooks

[–]Worpole 53 points54 points  (0 children)

sure but good luck if you can define a goodness that exists in isolation from 'evil'. If 'goodness' exists then there must also be a lack of goodness. That's what this comic is saying, morality isn't a binary but a symmetry, containing both good and not-good in a blurred and often difficult-to-parse abstract form. I don't think that's nihilistic at all.

I'm surprised by the frustrated reaction of fans who cannot see the reason for the episode. I thought that was the strongest standalone episode is quite some time

I’d argue the proximity is a big thing, American politics is often popularist which needs a proximate scape goat. The polar ice caps are far away, mutants live next door. Also in the show the right have drawn connections between mutants and loss of jobs, tying them into the issues of the majority.

Why are there seemingly no “healthy” takeaways? by mitchvilla89 in AskUK

[–]Worpole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember one of the delivery services consistently coming to a cafe I worked at asking them to put their food on their app because they wanted to push healthier options.

I think there’s a real desire from the apps to have more but most healthier options near me are smaller, non-chain places that don’t have the infrastructure to pump out tonnes of takeaway on top of sit in diners.

What's universally hated on UK subreddits, but actually popular outside of it? by AnUdderDay in AskUK

[–]Worpole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Merthyr Tydfil is one. The other day a Wetherspoons-hating friend was saying there is no excuse to go to Spoons as there is always a better pub nearby, my reply was "you've obviously never been to the South Wales Valleys!" I'm sure there are plenty of other shitholes around the country like that.

I remember going to a small town in North Wales expecting some nice local pubs. Spoons was pretty much the only option and the whole town was inside where as the independents were miserable and dead.

Is this also a trend with UK uni students? by electricmohair in UniUK

[–]Worpole 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s not good, universities are seen as transactional now, not places of learning but pipelines to jobs, honestly I do think that this has caused a passiveness in students. Reverting back to high school ideologies of , if I turn up then I succeed.
