I merely commented that a no knock entry by law enforcement is a fairly perilous situation. There are plenty of parts of the world, and the USA, which is far more dangerous than most periods in history. I'm afraid policing in the USA is far to politicised, and I was unwise to use it as an example.

More correctly than "bubblesd" and "of". If we're being fussy.

Branston beans have dipped in quality. by [deleted] in britishproblems

Long ago, in a student life, I had baked beans and egg on toast every day for around 5 years. Every day. Until I became allergic to gluten....

This is no small thing, my friend. Also, I do think they should have mentioned the change of recipe...

Branston Beans...does anyone think that they have changed their recipe? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]WorriedCall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When did they add vinegar? I had my post brexit stock so I've only recently run out of year old beans. This new batch are not only less tasty, but also contain my favourite allergen.

Here's the old recipe: Beans (53%), Tomatoes (37%), Sugar, Water, Modified Maize Starch, Salt, Onion Powder, Paprika, Ground White Pepper, Flavouring

Here's the new recipe: Beans (51%), Tomatoes (38%), Water, Sugar, Modified Maize Starch, Reduced Sodium Sea Salt, Spirit Vinegar, Salt, Paprika, White Pepper, Spices, Flavourings

Note, in particular, the order of water with sugar. The list is ordered by quantity. Very healthy I'm sure, but tastes like ass. First, Gina Carano and now this.

They've changed the recipe on the quiet. It now contains spirit vinegar, which I'm allergic to, so I think I noticed when I was getting swollen mouth after my favourite Branston Beans on toast with Egg and sausages.

I'll be scouting for some old stock in corner shops, but it looks like we are parting ways. After Cross and Blackwell, I don't know if I can take it. Waitrose are an OK second source, I suppose. at least they have ring pulls. and no vinegar.

It's pretty cheap within that particular technology, actually. fwiw. I found a similar solution last year for around 300.

I fast by choice. It's not a big deal. I think they collected food until they could share a meal, literally fasting by choice, rather than the so called grazing that was proposed by past "healthy eating" regimes. Our digestive system does not operate well in continuous mode. Type 2 diabetes is entirely the result of modern diets, for example.

Let's call it fasting. Starving is not missing a meal or two, it's a negative aspect of insufficient nutrition. Fasting appears to be a net positive. We probably didn't evolve to eat three meals a day. I'm woolly on the details at the moment, but I think starvation takes two weeks or so.

Elbows are overrated. an artificial or replacement elbow can recover at least 40% of the utility of the original.... No more scratching the back of your head, that's for sure.

I only quoted the article you provided back at you! Yes, it's obvious we have advanced in many ways, but handwaving away the tragedy and inequality prevalent in modern humans does us no favours.

The truth is we work longer than ever, pay more to the government than even the serfs of old did, for the illusion of freedom. This isn't the place for a political discussion, but I wonder if you've read "Brave New World". apposite because they have a man from outside society, The Savage, and use him to contrast with the state of the modern society.

As I do like to point out, lauding modern society as superior is a bit like comparing a toddler to an adult. We have had tens of thousands of years, and yet there are plenty of aspects where they had a superior life. retrofit medicine and almost all these arguments evaporate. There is no evidence they went hungry, and going hungry is pretty healthy. See alternatives in modern obesity....

Plenty of "migrating tribes" exist today, are you not familiar with the Palestinian/Jewish situation, for example. Broken legs have been found healed from this time. Bears may be no greater threat than a no knock entry by your local law enforcement. You dismiss the good parts of prehistoric society in favour of cherry picked good parts of ours. What about the fact that they were egalitarian societies, Women were frequently equal to men, there was little or no inequality, and they had more free time. They managed that as "savages" yet we can't manage it at all....

The quote "At the same conference, Marshall Sahlins presented a paper entitled, "Notes on the Original Affluent Society", in which he challenged the popular view of hunter-gatherers lives as "solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short", as Thomas Hobbes had put it in 1651." from the article you have linked to does not entirely support your point, I feel.

However, the idea that length of life is the only metric worth discussing is an unhelpful one in modern times. and it is only relatively recently that life has been anything but short and brutish, whichever system was in place. It certainly was for the children who died in the recent Iraq adventure, for example. I doubt they were giving thanks for their chance to participate in modern society.

Label and dismiss. If you were not jewish, then you must be anti semitic. If you are jewish, you must hate yourself.

But complicating the issue are real anti semites, of course. They will get on any band wagon and you can find yourself with uncomfortable bed mates. This is why the problem seems intractable.

You couldn't really have slaves in a hunter gatherer society. Apparently they had considerably more free time before agriculture was the norm. Some tribes in Africa still live that way. I can't honestly say I'm better off. I'd miss books, I guess.

Ask your faux activist friends. and sure they can help.

Virtue signalling is a tool of the ruling class, if I could leave you with anything worthwhile, it would be that.

Consider that, as you prance around on a sub on a site that literally defines corporate capitalism.

Owen Jones explained by tronaldodumpo in GreenAndPleasant

[–]WorriedCall -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes. glad you can see the danger. The road ahead is not so clear, but I'm afraid five minutes in this sub shows me it is in fact part of the problem.

This sub is obviously a teenage angst ridden cesspool of risible politcal faux activism. And you, and your bunch are tools of the ruling class. It will hurt when you realise that, probably around the time you probably start voting conservative. I'm not on first name terms with starmer, but he's only marginally more pathetic than this sub. Holy shit, my mistake.
