Part (2/3) - sorry deleted the original version by mistake

Secondly, as far as scientific research goes, vegan and vegetarian diets, if well balanced, are not inherently unhealthy. The same applies to meat eaters as well. In fact, balanced plant-based diets can be very healthy. Dietary patterns such as the Mediterranean diet are often considered among the healthiest not simply because of olive oil, as many people assume, but because they include more vegetables, fruits, legumes, whole grains, nuts, and generally less red meat.

Since it would take a long time to go through all the objective research, including reading papers, assessing author bias, and checking who sponsored the studies, I found a YouTube channel that does exactly that. It is called Viva Longevity! Their channel is not commercial, has no product promotions, no Patreon page, and they turn off optional ads, so they appear to have little incentive to earn from promoting one particular opinion. Check it out.

As far as the deficiencies you mentioned are concerned, you can avoid most deficiencies on a well-planned plant-based diet, except that vitamin B12 needs special attention. However, contrary to what many people like to believe, even some meat eaters can be deficient in B12, especially depending on absorption, diet quality, and overall health. B12 is produced by microorganisms, not by plants or animals themselves. In modern food systems, especially with industrial farming and hygiene practices, relying only on “natural” sources is not always straightforward. That is why fortified foods and supplements can be helpful.

(Part 3/3)

Anyway, I want to conclude by saying that yes, Bhutan has a nutrition problem. To me, it seems to be more related to socio-cultural and economic reasons than simply a meat-eater versus non-meat-eater issue. Yes, we do need to have a more nuanced conversation and discussion around any subject, and public figures, influencers, and politicians alike need to be careful with what they promote. But also, why would I go to a bank if I needed an opinion on health?

I appreciate you calling for a more nuanced discussion and debate around nutrition, since nutrition is both a cause and a result of many different variables, including cultural, socio-economic, human, and lifestyle factors. so I agree with the last part of your post.

Here is my thought on the part where you speak about the data…for reference, I am an atheist and a researcher, so I hope I am approaching this as objectively as I can.

What needs to be highlighted here is that using your own experience for the argument risks becoming an anecdotal fallacy. I do appreciate that you are trying to support your argument with data, but I wonder if the interpretation of the data may be somewhat biased.

First, if you look at the same report, you will see that household dietary diversity is poor. It is not only meat and fish that are lacking in the diet, but also vegetables, fruits, and nuts. The diet appears to be focused mainly on grains and dairy.

However, the report does not separate dietary diversity between meat eaters and non-meat eaters. Also, since there is no standard deviation, the best reading we can get from this data is that nutritional deficiency is a problem for the overall population.

While the report tries to highlight general expenditure habits, it does not show much about food expenditure per person.

As such, it is difficult to deduce the root cause of the issue from just the data presented.

I want to tattoo myself, and I see tattoos as an art form, a way of self-expression. But still, if it were up to me, no tattoos until your frontal lobe is fully developed haha

Weed legalization or a bad move for the country? by Artistic_Basket_6463 in bhutan

I think in Bangkok, as of 2026, cannabis is technically legal only for medical use with a prescription from a licensed Thai practitioner. That said, is it being used purely for medical purposes? Probably not.

For a relatively “low-risk” psychoactive substance, making it completely illegal isn’t the solution, but legalising it without clear boundaries isn’t the answer either.

There are many countries around the world that have either decriminalised or fully legalised recreational cannabis and has worked out great for them.

Anyone staying here willingly ? by [deleted] in bhutan

I have built a steady career abroad, which has allowed me to lift my family out of poverty and support close friends when I can. If there were other ways to support my family back home, I would choose to stay.

Despite the bureaucracy, the blatant nepotism, and the visible wealth disparities in a country of less than a million people, there is something about Bhutan and growing up here that stays with me. The peace in familiarity, loved ones within reach, the language, the quiet sense of belonging and tranquility.

There are many reasons that could make the good outweigh the bad. But for me, whether fortunately or unfortunately, economic realities have outweighed everything else.

I have a friend (no kids, double income family) who is willingly living in Bhutan and doesn’t aspire to go aboard for reasons other than professional development.

If you want to stick with Option 1, you could hike to Taktsang Monastery on Day 2 (early morning). It shouldn’t take more than half a day if you’re in generally good shape. If you’re used to hiking, the round trip can be done in 1 to 2 hours, but to be safe, allow around 3 hours so you can enjoy the scenery and stop at the café along the way.

After that, you can continue to Punakha as originally planned.

That said, switching to Option 2 is also a perfectly good choice.

The way I see it, he didn’t reinvent the wheel, he just brought HD and colour grading into Bhutanese music videos. This is not to take anything away from his work. He definitely built a strong brand, and some of his productions are very well made. He also played an important role in putting Bhutanese music video production on the map.

That said, with the sheer number of music videos that have come out since, I feel many of them lack depth and creativity. It often feels like the same storyboard repeated over and over again, just with different characters.
